Judging by the fact that Luna was banished for 1000 years if I remember correctly. They have to be over 5000 (estimate). Please tell me if I am wrong season 1 was long ago and I don't want to go back that far. Its never explicitly stated how old they are, and the only information we can go of is over 1000 years, because thats when discord ruled, but we dont even know how long he ruled, or if the sisters ruled before him. First, we have Luna's banishment for 1000 (which, since she was likely in a limbo state, I'm not sure counted), next we have Sombra's reign, which happened an unknown time before Nightmare Moon, Tirek's imprisonment seems to have been implied to be after Discord, and finally Discord. All these events are stated to have taken roughly 1000 years ago, but more than likely several years or decades, if not centuries spanned between them. It could be that the Princess don't even know, they're just that old. Maybe Celestia stopped counting after she realized she was celebrating her 1215 birthday for the fifth time, and that was several hundred years ago. How in the world can you make a character like that and fathom how their personality and knowledge would be like? I only saw the S4 episodes once, so I don't remember them well) - but that doesn't add up with other stuff, like Starswirl. Taking stuff into account, very slightly over 1000 seems to fit.
