technology This a good desktop build?

A friend linked me to a site for good parts within a budget and apparently this is a good setup for beating out the ps4 and xbox one. I figure I will probably invest a little extra in cooling. Anyway here is the setup.

CPU AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor $94.99 @ NCIX US Motherboard MSI 760GMA-P34(FX) Micro ATX AM3+ Motherboard $39.99 @ Micro Center Memory G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory $45.99 @ Newegg Storage Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive $48.75 @ OutletPC Video Card Asus Radeon R9 270 2GB DirectCU II Video Card $134.99 @ NCIX US Case Thermaltake Versa H22 ATX Mid Tower Case $31.98 @ Newegg Power Supply EVGA 600B 600W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply $49.99 @ NCIX US   Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts     Total (before mail-in rebates) $496.68   Mail-in rebates -$50.00   Total $446.68

I figure after adding in cost for the OS, keyboard, and mouse it will total $500

Good?

Yup, that build is pretty good. Although if you already have an OS just use that since if you have a spare key of Windows 7 or 8 you can get a free upgrade to Windows 10. If you don't a new key will probably run about $100, though I think MS sells keys for its new OS' at $30 when they launch a new OS.

That CPU is going to be bottlenecked by the motherboard. In fact, I wouldn't recommend an FX CPU anymore, as it's a dead platform. You'd seriously get much better performance out of an i3, even though it has a fewer amount of cores.

Any specific i3 that would be good and about the same price if not less?

I am not buying it until I move and I am guessing by then the sale will be over. Also what is the differnce between and i5 and i3?

i3 is dual-core with four threads, higher-clocked (up to 3.8GHz) but it doesn't have Turbo Boost. i5 is quad-core with four threads and has Turbo Boost (as an example, my i5-4690K has a base clock of 3.5GHz but boosts up to 3.9GHz under load) but is clocked lower. Not that clock speed really matters much, though.

Good?

What do you think of this: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/wjWjkL

Changed the CPU to the i3 as @Daring suggested, put in a mobo that has good reviews on Newegg and has USB 3.0 Headers, and a smaller PSU since Intel uses less power than AMD and with this motherboard you can't SLI or Crossfire anyway.

Also would you like to go dual-channel with the RAM (or even a single 4GB stick)?

8GB is still the standard for gaming and dual-channel (2x4GB) will perform better than single (1x8GB). <---Thanks to @Daring for confirming this.

Always go for Intel processors and make sure that your mobo is a good one.

Everything about your build is fine now. Should easily run Fallout 4 and GTA 5 and if you can run those then your rig will be running most games smoothly for the next two to three years.

It's quite dated. I built this a year ago and it has an fx-6300. Get an fx-8320 and keep your current hard drive for storage and get a samsung 850 pro ssd for your OS instead, don't forget to buy a 2.5 to 3.5 ssd mount (corsair recommended), also recommend corsair vengeance pro 16gb (any speed will do) and a GTX 960. I would also recommend full tower over mid tower.

These are the things I would buy to upgrade my current computer.
