Doctor XFizzle 8,669 November 16, 2011 Share November 16, 2011 (edited) Hey MLP Forum denizens, So Feld0 and I have messaging back and forth about possible ideas to do something nice and caring for a community as it draws nearer to Christmas time. It started in Ice's status where Feld0 had an idea that somepony make an artwork or PMV so amazing that it warrants a front page post on Equestria Daily to generate new traffic to the forums. I seconded the idea but instead of an artwork, perhaps the forums hold a charity/donation drive. Even though the idea started as a teeny bit selfish reason (site traffic), it matured into a legitimate desire to execute a charitable event. So then we knocked some ideas back and forth. These are only ideas and not concrete plans of action. We would like everyone's everypony's input for ideas/brainstorming - gaming marathon/competition to raise donations for a charity (I suggested Child's Play) - raffle giveaway where members donate $ for an entry then the donated $ is sent to a charity - make pony drawings/artwork/graphics and send them (mail or electronically) to a children's hospital to brighten up a kid's day We'd like to hear your feedback and ideas and if you are interested in participating. Zoop 8,384 November 16, 2011 Share November 16, 2011 (edited) If the raffle idea becomes a reality I suppose I'd be willing to kick in some money to put toward whatever the prize might be, or to cover whatever other manner of startup cost there may be. As far as prizes go, I'm guessing they'd be MLP related? Only other thing I can really think of would be Steam games or something... though that would limit the whole thing to people with gaming capable PCs. The only problems I have with the other ideas is that I myself would fine difficulty participating in. I'm not quite sure maybe little word thing under there name like what the admins have that says that they donated during the event.I'm not sure if half of what I said is possible, or if it would work or if its a good idea at all, but it is brainstorming right? In my cinema class, we had to realize 20 minutes or so movie about pretty much whatever we wanted and present it to the class. One of our ideas was to remake an MLP episode with live actors and costumes and everything. The costumes would be somewhat similar or inspired by these I suppose. The episode we wanted to remake was 'Party of One', but pretty much any episode would be doable as long as it doesn't involve too many ponies flying around and/or things that require some complex special effects or cgi (eg: the dragon in dragonshy) Unfortunately, we eventually scrapped the idea Now recreating a MLP episode with live actors could either be very awesome or very creepy. But I think that if the time and ressources were spent to make it look as professional as possible, it could possibly be quite nice. ...or I may be wrong, but the project would certainly unusual enough to draw a certain amount of attention! And it would definitely warrant a post on Edaily I think. (We are going to need to decide a charity as a group for the monetary donations, right? Or will we simply be using that for local charities rather than charity organizations?) So, Twilight, if you don't mind and some ponies wouldn't mind paying, I could start up a commissions thread in Octavia's Hall for this. Edit: I understand that a lot of ponies here are broke and that they would just donate the money if they had it, but some ponies have money, I'm sure, and art for their money would be just a little bit back for them being charitable. Then send the $ off to a charity we vote for. I really like doing something with a children's hospital still. Maybe we do both? Shame that I cannot draw and that I'm broke (for now until I get a job) or else I'd help out as well! - gaming marathon/competition to raise donations for a charity (I suggested Child's Play) I like this idea, but I don't think it's quite do-able for these forums. Then again I'm completely unfamiliar how such Child's Play like charity events work. (I believe that we need a much larger web presence do really raise anything and attract viewers!) We'll be doing this for a hospital, and although I expect us to gain some media exposure as a site, it's not about us - it's about them. So contributors to the event will get absolutely no special recognition here. If you want donor status and perks here, make a donation to us, not a hospital. Everything we do with this project will benefit a single organization, which will most likely be a children's hospital (I practically live beside one, and it's quite well known). I like the idea of commissioning art and having all the proceeds go towards the organization. That way, the more art you produce, the more money AND posters there will be to give (not to mention some money will also be needed to cover printing costs). Don't start any commission threads yet, though. There's still a lot left to organize first before we get anything going. Don't like the idea of $1/per like, though - it'll sound like a ploy to get more likes on your profile. How about a poem? One group of ponies can provide some artwork, while another spices up a poem to go along with it. Perhaps, but I'm not sure if a hospital would be interested in a poem.
