I was surprised that Lyra was part of Twilight's old group of friends, 'course since she got a good majority of the screen time, guess it was Minuette's turn.

I swear, Moon Dancer could be Twilight's long lost twin, and is a great parallel into what would of happened if Twilight never went to Ponyville.

I don't know if this was discussed earlier but the way Twilight's past conception of friendship was altered in this episode made me feel a bit uneasy. I think it works however since it isn't such a drastic change and it allowed the episode to have a much more idealistic and cheerier tone than if they left Twilight as she was. I talk about it here if anyone cares: https://mlpforums.com/blog/2538/entry-17458-the-problem-i-had-with-amending-fences/

Love to hear your thoughts.

Twilight is an awful Princess of Friendship

Can we give that mantle to Pinkie Pie?

Pinkie actually likes to get out and meet new ponies

She won't forget you

She'll find a way to spend time with you

She'll remember your birthday

Sorry Twilight, but you can be princess of...Pancakes or books or something that you're actually good at dealing with

Maybe give her a second chance ? She learned a lot about friendship, and she has the qualities of a princess, Pinkie Pie is good at throwing parties I don't know if she is made to be a princess, it is not that easy, remember how hard Twilight worked to get where she is, I don't see Pinkie Pie overcoming the challenges Twilight faced.

Twilight's had four seasons and two movies to get good at making friends and solving problems

At least she tries

Pinkie just has a knack for it

Yeah, she can be annoying sometimes, but she's learned to dial it back when her advances are rebuffed

Twilight was a bad friend before arriving at Ponyville, I don't see where she is a bad friend after learning so much.

Castle Sweet Castle (Makes a nuisance of herself to her friends)

Party Pooped (Nearly started a war)

Princess Spike (Drove herself to exhaustion by not asking for help...again)

As I've said elsewhere, miscommunication is a huge problem in My Little Pony

I am thinking way too hard about this...it's a kids show for crying out loud

People who are too busy studying to spend time with friends are always anti-social and hurt by bad experiences in the past. They are never too busy studying due to school, college, university, work, personal research, or having big plans for the future. Should you meet such a person, bug the hell out of them until they crumble, throw their studies out the window, and play kick-ball with you. Bonus points if you've never had to worry about such things because you've been backed by the government your whole life rather than having to worry about a career, and thus have no clue how difficult it can be to get a job.

Yeah she is not perfect, actually my point was that the first rule of how to be a princess is being a wise strong leader and Pinkie Pie is way too goofy for that. Thats what i was trying to say in the first place.

Ah well, that's what fanfics are for

Princess = leader = wise and strong, in my opinion that is logic not fanfic, saying Pinkie should be a princess is fanfic.

Celestia has made quite a few mistakes, yet she's still in charge of Equestria

Logic also seems to be something that ponies lack

They lack perfection, kinda like in the real world.

There's not being perfect...and then there's Equestria

Nevermind the instantaneous dragon-mail service, we never use that to solve problems

Or...you know...talking to the ponies that are having problems

Arrrgh

It's a never-ending circle of banging my head on the wall...

But, again, it's a show for kids half our age, so you're better off just nodding as the silly ponies do stupid things so we can drag it out for another five years

OK, as with virtually every other MLP episode, there are things that can be nitpicked.  But all in all, I consider this to be the best episode of season 5 so far.  It carried a message that simply hit home for me and some of the regrets I've had about mistreating friends in the past.  :)

This episode was really good, probably my favorite season 5 episode so far. It was good to see Twilight make up with her friends and it also had meaning for me because I related to Moondancer, as I had a very similar issue going on at the time.

This has to be one of the most relatable episodes to date. The fear of making friends and putting yourself out there only to be humiliated and/or neglected is something that almost everyone has gone through at least once in their life. I know I have... but I eventually opened myself up and now I have quite a few close friends that are almost like a second family to me; two of which share many common interests with me. *cough* MLP *cough* But seriously, this episode was admirable because it took a brief scene from the first episode that did little more than establish Twilight's antisocial nature, and showed everyone the consequences that came as a result of her past mistakes and negligence (possible "Christmas Carol" shout out?).  I liked the varying personalities between Moondancer, Minuette, Lemon Hearts, and Twinkleshine and I hope to see them return in future episodes!

This episode was great.  I always like it when tv shows are self-referential, so I appreciated how the writers expanded on material that was established way back in the pilot.  I'm also super excited that we finally got to meet Moondancer!

Personal anecdote; when my sister and I were kids, we would sometimes play with her MLP collection.  Back then, G1 Moondancer was my favorite (if I had to pick a favorite) but for a very silly reason.  8-year-old me noticed that her color scheme was similar to Starscream, and because I was/am a Transformers fan, I projected his personality onto Moondancer whenever my sister and I would play with her ponies.  Flash forward 30 years and now we finally have a FiM Moondancer.  Obviously her personality is completely different than what I used to imagine, but I still felt something that was almost like nostalgia when I saw her.

Anyway, I really like that they made Moondancer an even nerdier version of Twilight.  She instantly became one of my favorite characters and I hope we get to see more of her in the future.  I also wonder if any future episode will rekindle the friendship that Twilight apparently used to have with Lyra.  She wasn't part of this reunion, but I like to think that Twilight reconnected with her when she got back to Ponyville.

This is easily one of the best slice of life episodes of MLP. We all can look back and wish we treated our friends better, and we can all remember times when our friends didn't treat us well, and how it hurt. And people who have a harder time making friends than others know the pain Moondancer felt when she finally put herself out there only to be hurt by the pony she considered her closest friend. A lot of bronies can relate to that, and I know I'm one of them.

I also loved how this episode fleshed out some background ponies, even explaining why they're constantly showing up in Ponyville and Canterlot.

Was just watching part of the Bronies 2 documentary and they showed the clip where Twilight skips out on Moondancer's party.

They attributed it to S01E01.

I FORGOT THAT HAD ACTUALLY HAPPENED IN THE SHOW.
