Sigma 768 July 10, 2015 Share July 10, 2015 This conversation struck me as interesting. When we all picture in our heads an anti-brony, we probably think of someone who hates bronies or thinks they're creepy simply because they don't fall under social norms. However, this person was different. He was being interviewed by a known brony on the community. Windseeker 546 July 17, 2015 Share July 17, 2015 Anyone who exhibits enough intellect to argue about the fandom on a logical basis is usually smart enough to avoid the title of 'anti-brony' because of the learned behavior instilled among Bronydom by hateful trolls. My two cents though.

Arylett Charnoa 4,919 July 17, 2015 Share July 17, 2015 I think what AppleJack_Wack meant was that he can't be an anti-brony because "anti" implies that they are AGAINST bronies. Not just that they don't like MLP or its fans. If you don't like bronies or MLP, you're just... another human being with a different opinion. The word "anti-brony," at least how I come to interpret it, should refer to an active movement that is AGAINST bronies and actively insulting them. If you don't hate the fans and the show actively with vitriol and bile, then you're not an anti-brony. It is an immature title that should not be used lightly. To be against a TV show and its fans enough to label yourself as that means that you're not mature at all. 7 Aether Velvet is the name of the OC in my avatar. Drawn by me. yeet 2,027 July 17, 2015 Share July 17, 2015 So if someone doesn't like MLP fans, they're obligated to act immature? No, but if they're an anti brony, they'll be immature. There's a difference between not liking the fans and trying to eradicate them from the Earth

Guest July 17, 2015 Share July 17, 2015 I think bronies can sometimes take the fandom too seriously. The reason that "anti-bronies" exist is because people who have legitimate criticisms of bronies or the show tend to get a lot of bronies who do not like people "bad mouthing" the show or fandom attempting to damage control. This creates an atmosphere where the people giving these criticisms feel they need to be far harsher to get the point across because bronies do not like to hear criticisms. If anyone speaks against the fandom as a general topic, and presents legitimate criticisms they are labeled as a "hater" as an excuse to ignore anything they have to say regardless of it being valid or invalid. I think the idea of "anti-bronies" alone kind of proves that a lot of bronies do not like criticism. I have seen bronies label people who just don't like the show as "anti-bronies". I remember a group on Facebook once saying they wished to boycott Ashens because he revealed in a video that he was not a brony and more or less wanted people to stop sending him blindbags. No one got the message from that video at all: Ashens was more or less pointing out he was TRYING to be neutral about bronies and have no opinion but people kept demanding and demanding and demanding he make some kind of commentary until he got sick of it. THIS is why "anti-bronies" pop up, because some bronies (not all) are waaaaaaay too in your face about liking a cartoon. They are too overbearing, too protective of it, and basing too much of their life off of it. Ashens literally made that video as a way of saying "okay, I covered it, now stop please", but that wasn't enough for people. Fortunately the groups that didn't like his take were small and did not garner enough attention to create anything noteworthy, but the fact that even a group with over 200 people had at least 50 followers demanding people stop watching Ashens because he was a "hater" was absurd. Every fandom has their trash, but just admitting that doesn't inherently make you superior. I love Homestuck and I know how bad the rep for that fandom is. Bronies however have a tendency to try and undersell the problems. Homestuck fans will generally tell you how terrible their fandom is, hell I know it's trash. It's terrible on so many levels at times. Bronies however seem to always resort to the "it's the vocal minority!" argument and use as many tactics as possible to cover it up such as pointing out how much is donated to charity. The problem is that just blaming it on a vocal minority isn't always a surefire safety blanket, especially where it becomes increasingly difficult to prove that. I mean it's kind of hard to say that the porn is "just like every other fandom" when you're the second most popular tag on Rule 34. Really though, I do not hate bronies, I dislike behaviors of individuals but not because they are bronies, it's because of their behavior. A good example: I have a friend who got really hardcore into the brony thing. Since then, he goes to cons, he buys brony merch, etc. The part that annoys me though is how he complains about certain things, such as not being able to afford stuff for his apartment. When you spend thousands on going to cons and buying expensive custom made stuff, yeah you're not going to have a lot of free cash. You shouldn't be buying that before you buy necessities. Your apartment doesn't even have a couch, and you have an old TV from 1992. You are focusing on the wrong things. Also what you are into is your own business, but when you put it on display you ARE opening yourself to being judged. I do it when I wear a homestuck shirt, and if anyone goes "LOL HOMESTUCKFAG" I deal with it. That being said, I don't care if you're into clop, but when you are like my friend and hang suggestive pictures of MLP characters in your home and invite guests over, EXPECT JUDGEMENT. Don't get all pissed off that people are calling you weird and creepy. Thankfully not all bronies are like my friend, but I hope this gives people a little insight on why there are "brony haters" or "anti-bronies". Glike 487 July 17, 2015 Share July 17, 2015 With the fandom as a whole, I feel a bit guilty that this guy, even if he willingly took the name, has to be referred to as an anti-brony. Just the term "anti" is strong. Anti implies extremely against, an opposite side. And while the interviewee did have some opposing views, they were logical, well-thought out, and he did not exhibit any extreme animosity towards bronies. I'm not saying anti isn't fitting, as the word's original intention is to describe an opposite side. But in modern times, "anti" has achieved a negative connotation. By definition, it's appropriate, but by today's standards it's easy to take the wrong way. Anyway, the interview was very interesting and I respect how calm and logical both sides were. Celli 4,339 July 18, 2015 Share July 18, 2015 I've seen that video before. The guy he's talking too is a real hypocrite. He talks about not liking seeing ponies on everything, yet, if it's furry or anime stuff, it's ok? That makes no sense. People like that get no respect from me. I don't care if he wasn't name-calling and acting like your typical hater. Being a hypocrite is still pretty bad.

But what I'm getting at is that he doesn't like ponification, yet he's an anime fan, and he doesn't take into account that people might not like everything being animefied. Roketsune 388 July 18, 2015 Share July 18, 2015 I don't know what this person is renowned for and why I should value his opinion, but, I listened to about 8 mins of it. His complaint is bronies are making too much content. That's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. Everyone is going to have results come from searches which aren't to their liking. This guy's carrying on as if bronies are deliberately taking over sites or sabotaging search results.
Grepper 3,193 July 18, 2015 Share July 18, 2015 He said that the major reason that he is anti-brony is that we are "ponifying" everything and he found it annoying. I disagree, but still I'm glad that he is able to hold a reasonable and mature discussion with a brony. I still wonder why he considers himself an anti-brony if he said he doesn't hate bronies in general, just the ones that ponify other franchises and ones that don't know when to stop talking about the show. He can call himself an anti-brony if he wants, but his objections seem like petty things to dislike a whole fandom over. I'm also surprised that he didn't mention clopping. Shanks 10,816 July 18, 2015 Share July 18, 2015 This guy is considered an anti brony why, exactly? It really seems like that label is applied to way way too many people, call me crazy but I think it should you know mean what it literally means which is someone who actually goes out of their way to hate on bronies. This guy isn't an anti brony, he is just a guy who is whining a bit about there being a lot of ponified stuff and fan content but dosen't seem to go out of his way to bully or troll bronies. Guest July 18, 2015 Share July 18, 2015 Well, no. He makes good points on bronies ponifying everything. But what I'm getting at is that he doesn't like ponification, yet he's an anime fan, and he doesn't take into account that people might not like everything being animefied. Yes, but there is a thing called "degree". I.e. to what degree things are being done. As someone within anime fandoms and such, it's is NO WHERE NEAR as frequent as ponifying. I can honestly safely say that ponification is faaaaaaaaaaaaar more common than just about anything else. So common in fact that you can find a lot of the ponifications on accident under just about every subject. This is just a guy who happens to just want bronies to keep their stuff within their space, which I don't think is unreasonable. I can honestly attest to the fact that bronies have a tendency to make stuff about ponies where it doesn't belong. Look at youtube comments to majorly popular videos and you're bound to find a couple of people talking about MLP regardless of the video's content. Bronies sent Ashens like a crap ton of blind bags in hopes to get Ashens to review them, and when he finally did and pretty much said "look I'm not a brony, and I am getting sick of brony arguments in the comments and people asking me to review this stuff" people got mad at him that he didn't want his videos to be more about ponies. I think this guy's complaints are reasonable. He's not saying the entire fandom is a bunch of shit overall, just making reasonable requests.
