web Webcomic Thread

I think we all know a certain webcomic that's on all of our minds.

Homestuck.

Dang, dats some good story.

Eeeehhhh. At one point. It's just that it's either really good or really, really bad, and it oscillates wildly between the two. It doesn't help that Hussie seems to have no sense of pacing whatsoever and the story goes from impressively dramatic to long stretches of boring, meandering nonsense.

Anyhoo, my list of daily reads, both good and sort of meh.

Schlock Mercenary: Space opera about a band of... conditionally scrupulous mercenaries. Fifteen years of unbroken daily updates, and for webcomics, that's something. Don't let it intimidate you, though, it's a smooth read.

Kevin & Kell : Slice of life furry webcomic about a mixed-species family in a sentient animal world. Nothing too dramatic or crazy, though it does have time progression going for it - characters age, develop and grow. Kind of a consistent B-lister for me.

Sinfest: Used to be meh, then it good, and then it got... sorta hateful. It intrigues me, though, and I like the art.

Something Positive: Another slice of life webcomic, with slight occasional flirtations with the supernatural, though not in any kind of plot-affecting way. Quite heartwarming, despite the cynical tone.

Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal: Gag-a-day intellectual{ish} humor. If you're familiar with XKCD, take that, add slightly better art and penis jokes.

Stand Still. Stay Silent. : Post-bio-apocalyptic comic following an adventure of a motley Nordic crew of, let's call them archaeologists. Wonderful art, very intriguing setting, though intermittent updates.

Questionable Content: More slice of life, this time two days into the future - mainly in terms that there is now artificial intelligence. AI characters are treated the same as humans, though, and the story focuses almost exclusively on their everyday lives, relationships etc.

Freefall: Sci-fi webcomic focusing on the life of a genetically designed wolf on a newly colonized planet, as well as her squid captain, several billion robots and a handful of actual colonists. If you like hard science fiction, odds are you're going to love it. If not, you'll probably just like it very much. Start from the start, though, as at this point, there's a lot of plot resolution stuff going on and spoilers might be hard to avoid.

Girl Genius: Steampunk, and lots of it. Semi-serious adventure comic following the adventures of the eponymous Agatha Heterodyne. Pretty good art and fairly consistent updates. A couple of sections have pacing issues {coughcastlecough} but still a fun read.

Leftover Soup: More slice of life - I haven't realized I have this many of those - although with more drama than usual. Focuses on a small crew of somewhat, though not excessively, odd characters. Quite thought-provoking, both through characters and author notes, whether or not you happen to agree with them.

Broodhollow: A slightly young webcomic, though from a veteran author. A quite disturbing horror comic following the life of an encyclopedia-salesman-turned-antiques-shop-owner in a very, very strange town.

Captain SNES: A video game adventure comic, and it manages to pull off the "real person in Videoland" trope quite well. Alternates between serious and silly, with an overarching plot that looks quite promising. Unfortunately, it updates quite infrequently, though the RSS feed helps.

Darths and Droids: Star Wars movies retold as a tabletop roleplaying campaign. Sort of. The comic follows the scenes of the movies quite faithfully, but the story itself goes completely off the rails almost immediately. Single-handedly managed to introduce the sentence "Jar-Jar, you're a genius!" to the internet.

More to come, I'm getting tired.

Current project: The Olden World audiobook

Random thread revival incoming. Hopefully this topic stays a bit more active this time around.

I still read webcomics every single day. Can't go a day without checking updates if nothing else but I'm always reading through the archives of one too.

I just recently got caught up with Gunnerkrigg Court and holy shit the last few chapters with Loup have been utter insanity. It's amazing. I always appreciate the comic's balance of unreal situations put in a way that makes it almost seem sensible.

I'm also just about to finish reading StarWarriors, a comic about a group that helps grant the wishes of all living things but so far focuses on one particular Warrior who has to come to terms with the fact that she has to help make her killer's wish come true. Beautiful premise though.
