"Oh, I would love to!" Tyra chirped, hopping out of her seat and beaming up at the two ponies, "Where shall we go?"

As she walked along with them, her questions continued. "Do you think they will sell fish where we are going? I hope they have frost salmon, it is my favourite!"

"There was a bakery near Canterlot Castle's entrance," Cirrus offered as Tyra asked where they should go, beginning to lead the way. When Tyra's questions turned to fish, he tilted his head. "I know ponies can be eating fish sometimes, but that is a little bit rich for a school lunch, no?"

Tyra tilted her head at Cirrus's reply, not really understanding.

"Not at all," She answered, blinking innocently, "We would have fish for lunch back home all the time!" She added with a grin.

Her face became more quizzical at the thought of a bakery.

"Though, I have heard that Equestria's bakeries are incredibly good," She added, then nodded with her grin returning, "Very well, let us try one of these bakeries!"

"Fine then, I will."

"I know you probably don't care to much about this, but that you for playing a game of chess with me, I don't get to do it very often any more. Also thanks for putting up with me, I understand it isn't entirely enjoyable for you.,, And I can only imagine making friends is something at the bottom of your list, but your one of the smartest ponies I've met, don't expect me not to try."

Silhouette lifted the empty bread stick box into the air, crushed it in her magic, then threw it into the recycling bin, with a little more force than required.

"No, no, no, no, no! This game is supposed to be repulsing the little whelp away, not endear him to me further! He's supposed to be put in his place, and all it's doing is making him try harder, ugh!"

If Silhouette was starting to become frustrated, she didn't show it, as she lifted open the lid of her pizza box to unveil the still steaming goodness inside: A deep dish, hay lovers pizza big enough to feed a family, with hay bacon strips, hay Caneighdian bacon strips, hay pepperoni, hay sausage (both crumbled & sliced), peppers, onions, oregano, and a thick blend of gooey mozzarella & pepper jack cheeses atop a zesty tomato sauce, all encircled by a ring of cheesy stuffed garlic crust.

She lifted one of the large slices out of the box, keeping the weight of all the contents inside it form flopping down and out. She put the corner top the side of her mouth and bit down, munching on it.

"Maybe it's time to stop making it such a fun experience, and start making it a miserable one."  She moved one of her pawns off to the side, the beginnings of an opening. "Give him a nice fancy rug, so I can pull it out from under him at any time. Get the point across that this game isn't what's being played, it's him." She bit off a chunk of her pizza slice, a long string of cheese hanging from her muzzle. "Hmm. Go." She started working the cheese string back into her mouth.

No response was an interesting response . He wasn't ignorant enough to believe she completely ignored him. There was a reaction in there some where. What it was, was as blank to him as her facial expressions.

Making his move with near haste, he finished his potato salad with a sigh of satisfaction, his mother always had a good hoof for potato salad. "Your turn."

Maybe I'll get to sit with her at lunch... even if this is sort of lunch... he thought with youthful innocence

"Hm hmm. Boy aren't we cheeky? Alright then." She thought as she took a big bite of her cheesy crust. The first move had been made into her ploy. She located another pawn into position for another move, but widening the opening for advancement against her. "The ruse can't be too obvious now can it?" "Go." She announced nonplussed, as she shoved the rest of the crust into her mouth.

He took the bait  "Might as well risk it, its a win, win situation." he moved his piece . "Although why would you do something like that, if it wasn't to your advantage?" he sighed, he would see soon enough. Sometimes he learned things the hard way, but at least after that they stuck with him.

He took a big swig of his water and wiped his mouth "Oh its your turn."

"Oh silly colt. Every move I make in life is to my advantage. It is a waste of time to do anything else." She took a large bite of another slice. Another piece relocated. Forces arranged to make attempts at the side, but there were gaps in subtle places. Any good player worth half their salt would take notice of them... or make them. "This game will last as long as I say it lasts. You will understand that in due time." "Turn." Another hefty bite was taken.

He took a long look at the board. And as far as he could tell the opening was still there. He could make quite an offensive. But as good as he was, he could only see so far ahead, and he knew his opponent could counter anything he threw at her.

At this point in their life's, she was going to win, which was fine. He just wanted to know how, and he couldn't see it which was frustrating. This frustration was played out a bit in his face as his gears turned  But the only way he would find out was if he played along. He took the advantage given to him and waited to see "And with that its your go.

"Aww. Is the wittle puppy getting fwustrated?" She smirked a little. She would have loved to have said that in her cutesy wootsy voice right to his face, but Silhouette had decorum. She could do better. Another bite of the slice. "Last step. For now." Her Nightmare was moved over a spot. "Go."

"And just like that, the door is now shut." Silhouette pulled off one of the hay sausage slices, along with a hefty covering of cheese. She then moved a piece to intercept, preventing his from advancing to one of the openings on her Nightmare. "It is your go pal."

He couldn't tell if the word "pal" was served with sarcasm or not. He didn't care it was different from what she had given him so far.

The game however had taken a turn for the worse, the only choice now was to end the game. With sudden wild abbonded his more poetic side took over. If the solar empire was to crumble it would crumble in a blaze of glory.

his next move caused the death of his opponents For the Princess!... The scene began to play out in his head

"And panic sets in. That's cool." Cliche alert: She saw it coming from a mile away. She let out a tired, or perhaps bored sigh, and played the anticlimax card, and eclipsed his solar advance. Another bite of the slice. Another emotionless quip about the current state of things. "Cute. Real cute. Turn."

"Your turn" he smiled in giddy

She looked about as stoic as stoic could afford to be, as she took another bite and munched on it as it clung to life on it's mother slice by a cheese strand. "Maybe now would be a good time to buck him over, crush his dreams, pull out that rug I loaned him." A gentle tug of her head severed the umbilical cheese.  "Sunrise Tzu once said "Keep your plans as dark as midnight..." Most of her pawns were gathered to brace for the worst. "Turn." The nonplussed was off the charts. He was after all "two mere moves away from winning."

Was he winning? It sure seemed that way. In fact as far as he could read it there was only two maybe three turn's away from victory. But which was more important at this point? Victory or the story that had played out in his head? His creativity and his will batled each other for dominance for a few seconds before his will finally won.

He decided he would go for victory, moving his piece accordingly, he prepared for the "final blow".. As he made the move though he couldn't help be slightly disappointed that the story was never to be finished, and he let out a sigh "Its your turn Ms. Silhouette"

 "Its your turn Ms. Silhouette"

She took a bite of the crust from her slice. She munched on it. The she swallowed. "Y'know, I remember writing a poem, inspired by this very chess set and the story behind it. That poem is now an ongoing story." She looked to move her pieces into place. "It's about how Nightmare Moon came into being, not from her night being appreciated, but because of something... deeper, because Luna, for all she's worth and all she pretends to be, is too proud, too embarrassed to admit, that she's in love... with her sister." She slowly moved her pawns into proper poisons.

"But such a thing was uncouth, barbaric even, in those days. But what good are social norms compared to true love, longing and lust. Those pent up feelings only served to do one thing: Build up a personality, a spirit, a soul that wasn't Luna herself, to go about loving her sister in a way she never could.  For so long, these feelings were pent up, until one day, the straw that broke the bronco's back, the nightmare burst fourth. The nightmare, a construct of longing and sexual frustration, against the standard bearer of perfection, Sun butt herself, who would be attainable no more. The rebel of the night would plunge the land into darkness, so that only she and the one her host couldn't have, would have an eternal nights worth of bliss to themselves. The darkest passion, burns the brightest and checkmate."

One of Nightmare's Knights had snuck in from behind, pieces arranged for perfect mobility. The loyal knight of the night, would bring the fires of the sun to her mistress of shadow.

"Well I'll be had, so it is." he looked at the vast emptiness of the board, the story hadn't been the glory or the epic ballad he had imagined. As his mind wondered about the lives lost he couldn't help get lost in the fantasy for a moment and sink into sadness.

Shaking himself out of the realm of unreal, he heaved a heavy sigh and looked at his opponent "That's an interesting take on that dark piece of history, shows a lot about you, you know" he smiled and held out his hoof "Good game."

"I'm just gonna walk all over him now." Silhouette thought to herself. "Was it really though? It wasn't for me. Because every move you made, I allowed you to make. I could've won this game in two moves. But then you would have learned nothing. The lesson?" She magicked her board away. "That I am above you. You, and everypony else in this building, are not in my league. Your parents probably sent you here to get an education and to make friends. Well, I'm not friendship material. Go find someponies you can actually relate to. You'll be happier for it."

She levitated her glasses back up to her muzzle. "My mission here is to get the point across to this administration, to this bureaucracy, that I do not belong here. That my accomplishments, my merits, my talents, warrant me immediate granting of my diploma, so I can actually pursue my destiny and my passions like everypony else. And I will wreak tarturus during my tenure here until that eventuality occurs. You do not want to be in the line of fire."

She levitated her binder out from under her desk back to the top of it. "To you, this place is a golden opportunity for your future. To me, it's a weight keeping my dreams staked to the ground. Our outlooks couldn't be anymore different."

She reopened her binder to the section with the ticket stub in it.

"You wish to enjoy your time here. Then pretend that I am not. It's what I've been trying to do all day." She levitated he pencil at the ready to continue her writing of Prison Without Walls.

Well, I'm not friendship material. Go find someponies you can actually relate to. You'll be happier for it."

At first her words were what he was somewhat expecting, and to here how poorley he really was at chess, a game he loved and played so often, hurt. One could actually se him deflate as he heard this news. But she didn't stop, no she felt the need to keep on going. Which was a mistake, prehaps for the both of them.

It was a mistake in the sense that Crimson  was far from pushed away, in fact he couldn't help but guffaw by the end of her little presentation. "...First off... Why do you think I have in common with anypony here? And for the record becuase of your intellect, your probably most likley canidate for my friendship, as I've stated before. Finally I'm not excatly friendship material either, so we both have that in common.

As for getting in your line of fire? I better get used to it. I've got a lot of ideas that after I'm done here, are going to get me a lot of discomfort, surviving you would be a good first step. I hope though that our status will go beyond, attacker and defender. As you said yourself we have compeltey different outlooks, but opposites attract do they not? We could become two parts of a fuller whole, thus rounding out both of our idenities and persona's. Then again I'm getting ahead of myself." he couldn't help but chuckle, this had gotten exciting

"You ask me to pretend your not here. To do so would be an utterly foolish thing to do. Not only are you my greatest potentail to have a meaniful, um, shall we say realtionship? But are also my greatest challange. If I was to walk away now, I would be a fool and a coward. I suppose one could make the agruement that I am really a fool and a coward for continueing my persuit for your respect and even your friendship, but I don't really care what they think." with that he tipped his hat and sighed with satisfaction. He may have lost the chess game but he did not lose the mental struggle.

"Are you done, child?" She asked in the most nonplussed tone she could muster. "First, I don't care. Find something in common with anypony but me."

"Second. Yes, you are getting ahead of yourself. For your own sake, stop."

Third. Yes, you are a fool.  Thinking of me as a challenge, and not as a pony? To not respect my wishes? That is disrespectful. Disgraceful. I have no wish to associate with a pony like that."

Deep down, Silhouette was trying to keep her composure. Her plan was backfiring, and this whelp was becoming more persistent. She'd prefer not to resort to more ...crude measures against him, but that vile temptation of hers was now there.

He sighed. Ok, so he had been a bit rash, he had also learned a few things about her.  Two steps forward, one step back as the saying went. "My apoligies. When I said challange, I was perhaps speaking to metaphoircaly. You are far more then just a challange but at this present time, you offer the most challange to me that I can find in this school. You expect a learning indivual to walk away from that?

You also speak of respeacting your wishes. This is a fair request, but what about my wishes? I only wish the chance to work for your respect. Is this something too ridiclous to ask? If expect me to respect you, I would humbely ask you respect me in some degree. If I must work for this then I will."

"And what do you hope to get out of this, huh? What is your endgame? What is a satisfactory outcome to you if you pursue this cumbersome venture?" Maybe she could use logic to make him see how pointless this was, on how there are better things worth investing his time and effort in.
