gaming Is there a MMORPG with a progressive story?

Is there such a thing as a MMORPG where you play out an actual progressive story? Only one I can think of is Star Wars the Old Republic but looking for another one.

Sadly I too have never heard of any other story-oriented MMO. I heard World of Warcraft actually has well developed story too, problem is the story is shown only in text, no dialogues, cutscenes etc. 

 

To be honest problem is - few people play MMO games for story. Most times it is just roleplay unrelated to original story or looting, exping and stuff like that. That's why The Old Republic failed to outmatch World of Warcraft. Story there is pretty well written (but still not as good as it could be), but endgame for example is pretty poor. Gameplay is pretty much copy-paste from World of Warcraft and that doesn't help neither. Most people expect more interesting combat, especially with lightsabers. 

 

I heard Guild Wars 2 has some decent story though. But I am not sure, I never played the game myself.

I am not entirely sure what a progressive story is supposed to mean. But I am fairly certain Wildstar qualifies, and that game is definitely worth your time in playing. Lucky for you its going Free to Play!

 

I give Wildstar an 8/10 or at least from my original experiences. Much has changed since I last played after all, but I can still picture it with all its glory. A shame the playerbase did not stick around as much as it should have, but free to play should change all that.

The original guild wars games and its various campaigns. Sadly the game isn't nearly as populated as it once was though.

I'm a final fantasy XI player so apparently the storyline of the game may vary by the citizen of the nation city you're in. What I know so far is that rank 2, mission 3, rank 3, mission 3, rank 4 mission 1, rank 5 and mission 1-2 are for all nations however rank 2, mission 3 may vary by the 1st ambassador of the city you visit and 2nd ambassador of the city you visit. Additional Storyline of the game comes with the expansion packs and add-ons.

There's this game for the PS4 and PC called Wander, and is supposed to be a very heavily story-focused, non-combat MMO... only thing is it's complete shit. Which is a shame, because it has a lot of potential to be a game changer in the MMO scene and it completely missed this.
