Stardust was steadily working in the ship, going as fast as she could to get everything ready for the voyage.

I am sure glad I started putting rations on the boat a few days ago. It's not much, but I can get the ship there a lot faster with my magic back.

She knew that she would help by pushing the boat with wing power, so the amount of food and water on the boat should last even with the amount of ponies that would be on the boat.

Stardust flew up the center mast and started to prepare the sail. She looked in the distance across the city, and her gaze met a massive black smoke. It looked as if the darkness was spreading across the land at a speed that seemed almost impossible.

Her eyes went blank as she realized what it was, she began to panic, she finished getting the sail tied and she flew behind the boat, starting to push the boat as she blasted wind into the sails. It started to inch forward, with each flap of her wings the sails filled with wind and it started to pick up pace. She gave one more large blast and she knew that it would make it to the docks. She flew the the helm.

She was steering the ship to make sure not to run straight into the dock. She settled it down coming within inches of the Griffon and Psych.

"Get on the ship NOW! I have to gather the others, we have run out of time! We have to leave!!!" She was frantic as she met the Griffon and Psych, "Get on and get down into the hull, I have to find Aria! If I am not back in 10 minutes, you have to get out of here, even if that means you fly."

She was off in a bolt, she was flying faster than ever before, she HAD to get to Aria, she would not leave without her.

Freedom. It was intoxicating.

Bounding through the streets of Baltimare, Aria felt more alive than life itself. Wondrous sights and luminous lights whirred vividly past as she galloped down winding streets with reckless abandon. Though poverty prevailed, the city thrummed and thrived with colours and sounds that had been lost to her for years. Such was her enthusiasm that she knocked a stallion into a puddle of mud, much to his chagrin, drawing from her a bout of laughter in unbridled mirth. If others thought her insane, then so be it, for if this was insanity, she would gladly spend the rest of her life in its clutch.

With the rush subsiding, her thoughts wandered to Trivy and the group she would attempt to lead to the docks. The walk itself would be twenty minutes or so, though a glance at the ominously darkening sky suggested they might not have that much time given the Mayor's urgency. As she approached the hideout, she could see that the group was nearly assembled and waiting. With an apologetic look, she came to rest at Trivy's hooves.

"Sorry about that. Took a bit longer than anticipated. In hindsight we prolly should've teleported together," she said between breaths.

Old stallion and whoever your friend is, keep watch if any of the griffon guards show up, run and warn us."

"Uh yeah... I can't do that... I mean I'm not that good with magic... should have warned you about it, sorry." Trivy said, running her hoof down her neck, slightly embarrassed. "Anyway, lets get going, we don't have much time left."

"You need to be more confident Trivy." Stardust landed with a pretty loud thud, shaking the ground and after climbing out of a small depression that she had left began to address the group.

"We have to get to the docks now! There isn't a lot of time. I can carry a pony if I have to, but I won't be able to take you all one at a time. There are too many of you to do that. Trivy, I  know that you think you aren't capable of teleporting more than just yourself but I believe you can."

She moved closer to Trivy, she gave her a small smile.

"We were given our magic back by the 'Generous One' I don't know if you know what that means exactly. I just flew faster than I have ever flown before, even before my magic was taken from me. I knew that something was different when I was reunited with my magic. Now it all makes sense, the reason why Rarity was so incredibly weak after she was done. She not only gave us our magic back, but she gave us each a part of hers. I flew faster here because I had to get to Aria, I didn't care what happened to me, I had to know that Aria was okay and that I could get to her in time. I had that thought in my mind and I got here in just seconds. I know that was not just my magic, I know that was part of Rarity."

She pointed to Trivy's horn, "And you have part of Rarity's magic too, we all do. I know that you are scared, but you can do it, you have to put that fear behind you. You can't let it rule over you. Sombra's armies are approaching, they are only minutes away from the city. Don't let what Rarity sacrificed be in vain! Look at all of these ponies, if we don't get them to the docks NOW, they will be lost, we will be lost, and all of Equestria will be lost! You CAN do this Trivy! Now warm up that horn and get yourself and your group to that ship! I will take Aria and we will meet you there!"

She took a couple steps back hoping that her message set in and she would be ready to save her family. Stardust might have been alone for years, but she knew she had family, and she was willing to do anything for them. She looked to Aria with a warm smile.

"What are you waiting for? Grab your guitar! I am not going to be on that boat for who knows how long without some music!" She gave her a quick wink as she zipped past her into the hideout to grab her telescope and her saddle bag, she took the key from her neck and got the map from her locked desk. She quickly made sure that she had all she needed and flew the the top of the stairs, taking one last look at where she called home for so many years.

She was back up on the grass and she knew it was now or never.

Harcourt paced the deck of the ship, his eyes locked to the edge of the docks, seeking griffon guards or the rest of the group, whichever came first.  The adrenaline that coursed through his veins felt like liquid lightning shooting through him; he'd never before felt so alive, even years ago when he hadn't been so old.

He attributed it to finally leaving the damnable cart behind, seemingly once and for all.

Still scanning the waterfront, he moved alongside the Ranger.  "Far be it for me to stereotype, but I think you might be far more useful in the crow's nest with your eyes and arrows.  After we have left this place, I wouldn't mind a bit of catching up - right now, however, we have quite a situation here, and it simply wouldn't do to try to carry on during such a fracas, darling."

Darling?  Since when have I ever called anyone 'darling'?  Eh, perhaps Lady Rarity rubbed off on me a bit more than I thought.

"At any rate, my Ranger friend, let's keep our eyes open and our wits sharp; the others should be here soon!"

With that, Harcourt continued his nervous vigil, a watchtower given horseflesh.

Trivy smiled at Star's enthusiasm but at the same time worried about the talk of 'Sombra's armies approaching.' She moved up her pace just a little but not too fast as Lovely Wing was still resting on her back. She seemed to sleep through every bit of movement and noise, amazing, considering what they all have been through.

Lilith nodded once, quietly to herself, shuddering slightly as she stepped onto the deck of the dock with a crunch. Quietly, she ascended the rope ladder that lead to the highest part of the ship, where she was surprised to find it empty.

And then there she was, at the top of the world, able to look above the walls of the city to- while, perhaps, not the entire Dark Army, definitely a sizable amount. The wind was blowing, the sun was shining (for now), and here she was, looking around and dreading the dark mist that would inevitably come. Just like... the San-

Lilith sighed, satisfied that El-Shardin's words made the others cease their urging and arguments. Taking a deep breath, she alternated between trying to relax and keeping a sharp eye out for any suspicious activity along the ground, her bow strung, but not immediately at hand. With a sigh, she sat down and contented herself to watching for now.

"No no no, I need your help carrying the sail. I have a sail from the griffon kingdom that we have to attach to the main mast once we're sailing. But it is quite heavy." The griffon said walking off the small docks and into a fishing hut. She grabbed one end of the massive sail, dragging it slightly so she could pop out her head. "Psychy boy! Come on!"

Psych complied, picking up the other end and tossing it over him, draping it like a blanket over him. He quickly followed her, not wanting to drop it and wanting to hurry cause wow if she wasn't right about it being heavy as Tartarus. He moved fast, not paying attention to where he was going and accidentally bumping into her. "Oops, sorry..."

"Oops, sorry..."

"Hey now, I know I'm a good looking griffon and all but we only just met bud." Winter said teasingly. ''Kidding, just kidding." She chuckled as she continued carrying the sail towards the ship. When they got on the main deck, she dropped it on the wooden floor near the main mast. "I'm gonna need some help attaching that as well, once we're out of the harbor and onto the deep waters." She said as she made her way towards the end of the ship to raise anchor.

"Alright everypony! Get ready, we are leaving. The griffon embassy is having their usual gathering at this very moment. All the griffon guards are gone for at least a few minutes before they return to their posts. This means we have to leave now so your group better hurry up. This is our only change to escape this cursed city. That or we wait at least a few more month till the next opportunity arises. Since Sombra's shadows are close, I presume we don't really want to wait around here much longer."

"Leaving?"

Harcourt took a quick look around, trying to make certain everypony was accounted for - and found his count woefully short.

"But not everypony is here yet!  How can we leave without..."

But he knew the griffon was right; they didn't have another chance at this.  Not only that, but he couldn't go search for anypony, as he had an Element of Harmony to protect.  This combined with the fact he had already gone off to locate Lilith, making it a fair bet that this ship wouldn't be here on his return if he left it again.

Trivy, HURRY!  You have GOT to get yourself and the others to the ship!  Oh, PLEASE don't be planning to fight the oncoming horde...

"DAMNATION!he yelled, frustration visible in every twitch of his muzzle.  He hadn't felt this helpless since his last visit home.  He had a sinking feeling that, despite holding out for a miracle, there might not be any miracles left in their bag of tricks...

"Please, Ranger!  Tell me you see them coming!"

His heart wouldn't be able to bear it if they had come all this way, just to lose each other now...

The Darkmane forces had finally arrived and had already begun setting up the equipment. Two ponies approached Rave. One was a unicorn, adorned in the Darkmane armor, although, a bit redder. His hair was blood red and his eyes as well. His coat was white, which was uncommon among the Darkmanes. The other was a big earth pony, wearing massive armor of iron and spikes ran down his armored hooves. There was no mane that could be seen, due to the helmet that covered his head. However, the tail seemed to be rather burned.

Rave bowed before them.

"General Crimson Darkmane. General Ravager Ironhoof. I welcome you both. Your help here will be most valuable for our King's progress. The rebels will be crushed. We mu---"

"I have fought many battles, young Darkmane" Ironhoof interrupted with a deep voice. "The city will not be stormed until the walls are broken down. The least we can do now is to start bombarding it with our catapults. My scouts informed me your forces also have explosives.... I imagine you will use those to bring down the wall. Make no mistake, I will not tolerate any unnecessary sacrifices of my forces...".

Rave's eyes twitched a bit in anger, however, he kept his composure and gave a fake smile. "I thank the great General for his most useful and needed advice". He bowed again. "However, I am sure my uncle will have something to add". He looked over to Crimson. He could see that he had more scars on his face than the last time they had met.

Crimson looked back at Rave. "Indeed, cousin. I have already started the preparations for the explosives. However, we must cover the explosive team as they set up the device by the wall. They will need all the protection they can get. Like Ironhoof said, the city won't be stormed until the walls are broken. It is of utmost importance that these walls come crashing down".

"I agree. We c--"

A pony came running towards them, interrupting Rave. He saluted.

"At least the gnat has the sense of at least saluting" he thought, annoyed.

"Forgive my interruption, sirs. The catapults are ready. We both have heavy stones loaded as well as fireballs".

Rave looked towards the city. "Excellent..... open fire....".

The pony galloped back, barking orders. Soon all of the catapults started firing at the city.

Rave listened carefully. He wanted to hear the citizens of Baltimare scream. He wanted to hear the sound of fear, confusion and chaos.

@@JonasDarkmane, Jinx rubbed her hooves together with glee at the thought of the power she was about to wield. She packed a few items, then teleported herself to just outside Baltimare. She then went to where the forces of King Sombra were and said, "The King has given me command. I would suggest that you obey me."

Lilith was jolted out of her reverie by a single particular yell of

"DAMNATION!"

And then, shortly following,

"Please, Ranger!  Tell me you see them coming!"

She quickly glanced out over the city. Nothing. Nothing at all... not even a twitch of movement from the city.

"Nothing..." she said solemnly barely able to be heard down below.

Then she heard the crashes from the walls...

His face turned beet red, but luckily his coat hid it quite well. He simply nodded and dropped his half behind hers. Walking off to the other end of the ship, he tried to look out and see who was there, but from Harcourt's shouting, he could tell there was very few of them that had truly arrived. He turned to Winter and asked, "Is there any way to get just a bit more time, please?"

Aria, Stardust, Trivy and the rest of the ponies made their way through to the crowded streets of the city. They couldn't go fast with the risk of losing most of the group but after some walking, the docks were finally in view. That's when she saw the massive fireball soaring through the sky. She followed its way, her eyes grew wider as it crashed into the water near the ship. Trivy laid down Lovely Wing as a response and started to warm up her magic.

"Is there any way to get just a bit more time, please?"

"Sorry bud, I'm afraid n-'' Suddenly Winter grabbed Psych in a tackle, covering him, protecting him from the large fiery stone that was heading their way. It plunged into the water, only a few meters from the ship, a large wave was created by the impact that crashed against the sides of the ship, causing it to move away from the docks. "What the hay!? What was that?" She shouted. "We have to go! NOW!" She stood up from the ground, releasing psych from her protective grasps as she ran towards the ships navigating system.

Trivy stood near one of ponies, giving all her power as she teleported the pony with her to the ship. She flashed back, grabbing another pony and teleported again, and again. She could hear the panic and screaming from the entire city now, as another ball of fire flew over the city and another hit the high wall, causing it to crack up. Ponies were running wild as troops of guard galloped through the streets, gathering every stallion and mare they could.

Trivy flashed in front of Stardust and Arai. "LET'S GO!" She ran pass them, as she was sure those two could make it on their own, she grabbed another pony, already exhausted but she kept going, she flashed again, teleporting the pony and her to ship. A few ponies remained, hopefully she would be able to keep this up a little longer.

"INCOMING!"

Harcourt yelled out as he saw the enormous fireball headed straight for them.  There was nowhere to run or hide; it was looming over the ship, and would certainly reduce it to a pile of wet cinders in mere moments... not to mention the fate of all others onboard.

No... it can't end this way!  We just got a glimpse of hope, only to have it snatched from our hooves at the last moment!?  Fate cannot be THIS cruel, can it?  There are still elements to find... and Sombra to stop... and there's STILL three to go!  How can it end this way!?  No no no no no no NO NO NO!!!

The fireball roared with intensity as it loomed closer... and closer... and closer... then it slammed into the water next to the ship, sending it rocking heavily in the formerly still waters.  Harcourt blinked, looked down at himself, and breathed a sigh of relief.

I suppose Fate isn't as cruel as I thought; she just loves a good joke, it seems.

>POOF<  Trivy appeared with one of the group.  The young stallion who came along looked about, straightened his glasses and immediately went to Harcourt... but all he was worried about was Trivy.

"Trivy!  Where are the oth-"

>POOF<  She was gone.  He stood there a moment, trying to figure out what had just happened, until >POOF<, she returned.

Another pony.  Another poof.  He knew what she was up to now... he just hoped she had enough strength to get herself here after everypony else was taken care of.

As the other ponies appeared on the ship one by one, Harcourt pointed them below deck and waited for each time Trivy appeared.  Each time, he made certain that anypony brought on board was steered to the below deck areas.  He kept guiding them down, keeping track of who was here and who was not, but every time Trivy vanished, he could feel his heart jump at the idea she might not make it back next time.

As she continued to transfer the group to the deck, Harcourt could see the weariness settling in on her face.  He was acutely afraid she wouldn't have the strength to get everypony - yet he silently cheered her on, holding out for the miracle that might be hiding in the bottom of the proverbial sack.

The ship's going to pull too far out of her range if she doesn't hurry... oh, Luna be her strength!

Trying to focus his mind on something besides Trivy, he looked up at the crow's nest.

"Lilith!" No use trying to hide it now, he thought, "Are you all right up there?  If all is indeed well, can you see if there's anything impeding our progress, or do we have a clear shot out of the harbor?"

Hopefully, the Ranger would have good news... because right now, they needed a bit of good news.

... and then suddenly, the world became hell around them.

Luckily, the first one had missed them, but there were plenty more on the way- most would steer clear but there would be several more potential hits. If this was the mere misfires, that spoke of the huge volumes of fire that crashed into Baltimare.

At this point, Lilith was starting to panic. Here she was, all alone, with the city burning in front of her and a stray fireball could spell her doom at any moment in time. It was reminding her too much of her home, too much of the forest, too much of the Sanctuary... Lilith was just about to burst into tears from the suppressed memories at this point, but then a voice came out of the smoke and steam that blocked out her vision of the deck.

"Are you all right up there?  If all is indeed well, can you see if there's anything impeding our progress, or do we have a clear shot out of the harbor?"

She turned around, looking towards the slightly more peaceful sea. Although the smoke seemed exceptionally thick, she was able to make out... clear waters.

Concealing the misery in her voice, she yelled back, "If they have a blockade, it hasn't come yet! Clear waters all the way out to open waters- but more fireballs incoming!"

The sky opened the gates of Tartarus, releasing untold pain and terror upon the world. Their salvation drifted ever so slowly from the docks without them. To have come so close only to be dragged back into a pit of despair was not fate Aria would accept. Not for Star's sake.

"Start flying ponies to the ship!" she barked at Stardust, as she herself placed a filly on her back. The best they could do was make the job easier for the unicorn. Asking the little pegasus to hold on tight, she made a mad dash for the ship.

Finding it was too far from the docks, Aria dove into the bay, not yet sure how she was going to get onto the ship. She swam around the vessel, hoping for some hold of sorts, the filly on her back clutching her hooves around her neck. On the other side, she saw the anchor sitting just above the surface of the water, and determined relief took her. Closing the distance, she grabbed on, pulling herself and her charge out of the water, though left unsure of how she would climb the rest of the way.

Winter grabbed hold of the steering wheel as the ship started to sail through the thick clouds of smoke, trying to find its way out of the harbor. "These ponies better be worth it rarity." The griffon mumbled to herself under her breath. She noticed the pony holding on by the anchor, she wanted to help but she couldn't be a second away from the steering wheel. "Somepony help that other pony hanging by the anchor please!"

Trivy grabbed the last few ponies, teleporting to the ship with her last energy. She collapsed onto the wooden floor, trying to catch her breath, the smoke around was not helping. She got up on her hoofs when she realized she had left somepony behind Wing... "WING!" She look back at the docks where the filly sat scared in a corner, surrounded by smoke and ashes. Trivy started running with the last bit of energy she had, she jumped of the ship back into the cold water, swimming towards the docks as fast as she could. She ran up to Wing, grabbing her swiftly and throwing her onto her back as she turned around. "It's gonna be okay Wing, just hold on."

Psych was becoming more relieved by the amount of ponies continuously growing on deck, but something being shouted nearly made his heart stop. Trivy was screaming for Wing... Which could only mean one possible thing. Without thinking, Psych was in the water a second later, swimming with all his strength to the docks. Climbing up, he found both Trivy and Wing sitting there, Trivy obviously out of energy. "Trivy... I have an idea! If I can get this to work... We can make it to the ship!" He held onto both of them, saying, "Just don't accidentally interrupt me, I don't want us back in the water!" With that, he closed his eyes, clamping them shut as he concentrated. Slowly, they could all feel themselves being lifted up, although the strain on Psychs face was obvious as they began floating back to the ship. Edited by Count Paradox

Stardust landed on the ship after grabbing one last pony from the docks. She looked around for Aria as she heard the griffon shouting about a pony hanging from the anchor!

She ran to the side of the boat, looking over she saw Aria struggling to hang on. She flew over the side and helped pull her and a young pegasus up and onto the deck. She hurried the filly to the hull of the ship and she returned to Aria with a blanket, she was soaking wet and she had to get her warm before she got sick.

"Stay here, I have to help get us out of here." She said to Aria.

She flew up to the griffon, "I am going to help get us the hay out of here, steer straight, whatever you do, don't let go of that wheel."

She few behind the ship just like earlier and started to flap her wings as strong as she could. The sails filled with air and she could see the ship start to gently move forward. Just then she saw Psych, Trivy, and the little Wing floating above the water.

She started to slow her wing blasts so the ponies could make it to the ship.

"HURRY!!!" She shouted.

The distance slowly closed, and the three of them were almost there. When they reached the edge of the ship, Psych quickly passed Wing to somepony on deck, but as soon as he did, the last of his strength drained, and he instinctively grabbed the railing of the ship with one hoof as the other clung to Trivy's, although his grip on her was quickly slipping. "Trivy, I-I can't...!" He tried to get a better grip, but his hoof slipped out of hers as he heard her his the water. "TRIIIIIVYYYYY!" He screamed as he felt the others pull him on board.
