Making Canon Characters Related

Generally, how do fans feel about making two characters from the show related?

What about minor characters who have little to no characterization in canon- ones that play very small roles in the show?

I plan on making a comic about the family troubles between two such ponies, but I wanna know if this is generally something people dislike or not.

Personally I think it depends on the specific ponies and how it's handled. The more it goes against what some might see as contrary evidence (or the less supporting evidence it has), the more it may be met with some resistance; however, I think the ability of the writer can often excuse a lot of these issues. Sometimes even unnatural or weird things can come across fluidly and believably depending on how it's handled.

More directly related to your question... if they're unestablished characters, you'll likely not have a huge backlash I think. --UNLESS they are "established" pretty well in the fandom's mind, which is a lot less influential than actual canon but may still need to be considered.

So yeah. No big issue if they're underdeveloped, but ultimately how it feels/comes off is probably more dependent on your ability to write about it.

@SFyr Thanks for your input. I chose two ponies who are practically nonentities in the fandom, so I think I'm probably good to go.

If it's okay for the fandom to presume that Cheerilee and Berry Punch are related because they're vaguely similar colors (even though the show is chock full of families and pretty much only Rarity / Sweetie / Magnum share similar colors), then it's okay for you to make such a connection based on any or no convincing evidence or ridiculous reasoning.

If anything, making the reasoning intentionally ridiculous or a parody of brony culture might make your fiction more entertaining.
