If you had to listen to heavy metal and only heavy metal from one of the two contents and primary sources of the worlds hard rock and metal, whilst forsaking the other completely, which would it be and why?

Would you choose North American Metal, home of Kiss, Alice Cooper, Van Halen, Guns n' Roses, Motley Crue, Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Korn, Tool, Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold and many others?

Or will you choose European metal, bringers of Judas Priest, Motorhead, Iron Maiden, Scorpions, Accept, Rainbow, Def Leppard, Yngwie Malmsteen, Celtic Frost, Helloween, Nightwish, In Flames, Cradle Of Filth, Amon Amarth, Dragonforce & Rammstein, among a plethora of others?

The choice is yours.

Gotta go with European. Electric Wizard, Black Sabbath, Darkthrone, Immortal, Entombed, Opeth, Behemoth, many more.

Although I do love Megadeth, Pantera, and Death to death (heh), Europe has many more heavy metal bands that I like.

...But that's just my opinion.

With groups like The Browning, Lamb of God, Psychostick, Devildriver, and so many others, there are many, many great North American heavy metal bands...but...

Nightwish, Children of Bodom, Mors Principium Est, Skindred, Insonmium, Epica, Paradise Lost, Europe has most of my absolute top favorites, those were just some examples.

European for me. :3

Nightwish! I didn't know many others form America knew about them??  There's also Eluveitie, a Folk metal band....I prefer folk and and symphonic metal above all others, which you just do not find among American bands (I can only think of Agalloch).

I chose Europe because the most bands I listen are from europe or more exact from scandinavia (melodic death metal). But I also listen to american Metal (mostly bay area thrash).

Let's see,

Europe: Nightwish, Edguy, Helloween, Amon Amarth, Dragonforce, Rammstein, Iron Maiden, Blind Guardian, Judas Priest, Sabaton, Epica, Wintersun

America: Deftones, Motley Crue

Gee, tough one.

I have seen heavy metal bands, while I was in Germany, and it was extreme and very talented, I have also heard English, Scottish, Swedish and Danish heavy metal music, so I prefer European heavy metal over North American.

I think I'll have to go with Europe, because of the huge amount of talented bands like:  Kreator, Sodom, Destruction, Coroner, Iron Maiden, Celtic Frost, Meshuggah, Vader, Black Sabbath, Deathrow, Evile, Pestilence, Exumer, Judas Priest, Mekong Delta etc... And there's also a lot of unknown band for Europe so that's another reason.

But It's a really tough choice because we got great bands here in N.A.: The Big 4 (Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer, Megadeth), Voivod, Exodus, Overkill, Vektor, Morbid Angel, Deicide, Forbidden, Devin Townsend Project, Manilla Road, Master, Nile, Nocturnus, Nuclear Assault, Obituary, Fear Factory, Pantera, Razor, Sacrifice, Death, Possessed, Fates Warning, etc...

But I'm still going with Europe because of the larger selection of band including the more forgotten ones.
