Some are furries (myself included), some are not, that's the end of the argument. Liking mlp and being a furry are completely different, though they can exist at the same time.

Well this is a good question, it depends what you consider a Furry and yes there are some furries that don't dress in fur suits. A furry is a person who likes anthropomorphic animals, dosen't have to dress up but majority do, A brony is a person who likes ponies from My Little Pony, who are anthropomorphic animals in a retrospect. I am not saying Bronies are Furries just it comes down to what you like to do and think. personally I would like to put on a pony fur suit and go to conventions, but that does not make me a furry.

They can if they want to be.

- You can be a brony, a furry or both. They aren't mutually exclusive to each other

- They're both just labels at the end of the day

Furries and bronies are two different sub-cultures and/or fandoms, one could be a furry, or a brony, or a furry-brony. Hope this helps.  :grin2:

Water, 35 liters. Carbon, 20 kilograms. Ammonia, 4 liters. Lime, 1.5 kilograms. Phosphorous, 800 grams. Salt, 250 grams. Saltpeter, 100 grams. Sulfur, 80 grams. Fluorine, seven-point-five. Iron, five. Silicon, three grams. And trace amounts of 15 other elements. It's all the ingredients of the average adult human body, right down to the last specks of protein in your eyelashes. And even though science has given us the entire physical breakdown, there's never been a successful attempt at bringing a human to life. There's still something missing. Something scientists haven't been able to find in centuries of research. ...and in case you're wondering, all those ingredients can be bought on a child's allowance. Humans can be made rather cheap. - Edward Elric

If you dress up as a pony on a regular basis, then yes. If you don't, then you are not a furry unless you consider yourself one. If you don't consider yourself a furry, then you are not a furry. Don't let others give you titles you don't feel fit you.

No. A furry is a fan of the concept of anthropomorphic animals. A brony is a fan of Friendship Is Magic. Many bronies are furries, but not every furry is a brony, and vice-versa.

Well not really. Well most of the Furry community do dress in fur suits but there are others who actually don't, but like anthropomorphic animals. Dressing up in a pony suit doesn't make you a furry, it just means you like dressing up as a pony.

Bronies are a special type of furry. XD Like said in this Urban Dictionary definition I found:

"There is no one single definition of what a furry is. Even within the furry fandom, people cannot always agree on just what makes a person a furry or not...Others would argue that even liking anthropomorphic creatures makes you a furry. You may have no idea the furry fandom exists or have ever heard of a furry convention, let alone any of the websites; simply liking 'anthro' critters makes you a furry."

So technically we are a type of furry if we like anthropomorphic creatures. Most people go to conventions that are about these anthropomorphic creatures. Like said in the Urban Dictionary quote, "simply liking 'anthro' critters makes you a furry"

Unless someone can convince me otherwise, I will call myself a Brony but not Furry (though I don't have any particular opposition if I do in fact fit the definition).

I asked Furry about this and this is how they responded.

I watch MLPFIM because I'm specifically fond of MLPFIM instead of anthropomorphic animals in general.

I don't know how general term Furry is, but one did mention point that... would anyone who is fond of anthropomorphic animals be considered Furries? Are you still Furry if you like many cartoon shows with animals like Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, etc (if so then Furry fandom would be incredibly massive)? Or does being a Furry specifically require you to be an active participant of the fandom? I follow 4chan's definition of Brony, which is quite general, that any fan of MLPFIM is a Brony. I don't know specific definition of Furry.

But in any case, I think it can be agreed that Furrydom and Bronydom at least act as separate entities even if, in fact, Bronydom is subset of Furrydom.

Tbh, I hate that people think furries have to dress up in furry outfits. They could always just want to draw anthro animals and are interested in the fandom and things they do like conventions. I've seen people who go to conventions without outfits! Just plain shirts, most likely with an anthro animal on it. Don't bronies wear shirts with anthro animals, in this case, ponies, on it?

My brother watches MLP:FiM because he enjoys it along with his 3 year old daughter! He thinks the animation is great, story is fantastic, and that it's a great show for anyone. But he isn't considered a brony.

Also, here's the U.D. definition!

And I think to be considered a brony and/or furry, you have to at least participate in the  fandom someway.

Well it depends, Furries are so obsessed with different kinds of animals and even fictional ones like Mordecai and Rigby from Regular Show.

Bronies like me for example are obsessed with multi coloured talking horses and horses are animals.

So technically Bronies are also Furries.

I see your point, but you may have misunderstood me, or maybe it sounded better in my head. I'll try again. People who dress up as animals on a regular basis are CONSIDERED BY OTHERS (that's what I failed to communicate) to be furries. If you read the rest of my original post, then you would see that I went on to say that you are only a furry If you consider yourself a furry. Is that more clear? I'm sorry if my first post wasn't clear.

For me that's not required.

Again, being a Brony is a general term for me meaning one is a fan of MLPFIM; being MLP fan and Brony are the same. I disagree with the notion that calling oneself a Brony indicates that you're somehow more involved with MLPFIM than "MLP fan". However, because I consider Brony to be quite a general term, I think is important to consider subgroups within fandom (casual fans, rabid fans, etc). Unlike what seems to be many people, I don't look at fandoms as single entities (people on this forum mentioned how they see Sonic, Anime and FNAF fandoms to be undesirable to say the least).

There is a bit of a correlation between the two, as sometimes furries dress as a MLP character, or a pony in general. Outside of that, there are times where some people, like myself, participate in both fandoms. It's hit or miss, honestly, as to whether or not someone's into both.
