Mr. and Mrs Cake.....best couple ever

It sucks not many recognize them for being the best couple shown on MLP. I know many couples aren't even on the show. In fact, I'd say The Cakes and Cadence Armor are the only official couples on the show. I've seen a few other couples here and there in the background, but these two pairs are the ones that stands out.

Cadence and Shining Armor are the perfect couple and super adorable. I find their love genuine, but they strike me more as the "fairytail couple". You just see them lovey dovey in almost every scene...picture perfect as a dynamic duo.

With the Cakes, I see something more genuine and sweet and realistic. Gradually through the show, you witness small scenes everywhere of how well they complete each other both physically and emotionally. They aren't perfect...and I love the quirky scenes they have after having their two babies. It's also super sweet for them to have adopted Pinkie into their home.....and their relationship is just beautiful. You could call me old school for seeing them as the best couple for these silly reasons, but I suppose I am!

Cadence and Shining Armor was just thrown at us from no where. The two most important ponies supposedly in Twilight's life and childhood come out of nowhere and never mentioned before "A Canterlot Wedding". Eh....I let that pass but I don't see much to their relationship. I'm aware that the IDW comics shed some light on how they met when they were younger?....but I wish to see more of them as a "real" couple building on their life after the wedding. I'm probably asking for too much, but seeing the Cakes makes me want that for them

In my opinion, Cadance and Sining Armor were poorly written into existance, and really only serve, as you say, as the fairytale prince and princess characters. Their connection to Twilight was forced, and obviously not planned far in advance, as evidenced by the lack of mention of such seemingly important ponies in Twi's life.

The Cakes were written later, and as a couple rather than as filler connections. Rather than having to create characters and then create arbitrary ties to the protagonist for plot convenience, the Cakes were written to be the Cakes, which lends them the authenticity of thoughtful writing rather than last minute retconning.

I think they resonate better and have a mpre natural dynamic simply because they were planned as complimenary characters rather than just shoehorned in last minute. They may be a little too perfect, but for a kid's show with an adult audience, they're pretty well written.

The Cakes have been such a sweet and adorable couple since their first appearance in the show. Being a married woman myself, I actually hope that with time, my husband and I can communicate and understand each other the way the Cakes do. They obviously have been together a very long time. The fact their relationship is strong and resilient with stresses of their business AND the twins (as infants no less) makes them the ideal couple to work to be in my own relationship. :kindness:

Forgot to mention Pinkie Pie too! Being able to deal with her just makes them a god tier couple!

The Cakes are worlds beyond Cadence and Shining, by far. They both actually seem like a legit couple that did not seemed 'destined' or something forced, they just seemed like two ponies that met when they were younger and it went from there, a realistically sweet (ha, pun) scenario that would make for a lovely little flashback scenario. :3 We need to see more of them for sure.

If I'm counting the cards right, I have a hunch that both the Cakes and our royal couple will become quite acquainted with one another beyond just your basic buisness transactions.

Here me out

The cakes know what its like to raise a foal, they just got their little ones out of diapers if this last episode is any indication, which means they are potty trained as well as just generally more behaved than they were some time ago. Depending on how ponies age in equestria, we could see the twins starting to talk and what not, giving the cakes even more experience. That experience is going to be important to relate to the royal couple.

See, Cadence may be a princess and could probably do the nanny thing, but I have a feeling she may want to be there for the foal just because of the whole parental instinct thing. The Cakes can help them figure out things and avoid pitfalls they themselves ran into when they were raising the twins. Obviously there are some things that could stand in the way of this kind of interaction

-the class difference (wealthy canterlot ponies would just tell Cadence to get a nanny to deal with the messy stuff, which would be tempting, but she could think she wouldn't bond in the same way if she did that)

-The cakes live so far away and have their own business to handle

-Why would they pick the cakes beyond them living in Ponyville and knowing Twilight? What would they have seen that makes them a go to source?

Still even with those reservations I think a Cakes and the Royal couple episode on dealing with new borns from an experienced parents perspective would be an interesting episode none the less.

Indeed, the Cakes feel like a much more natural/genuine couple. As said before, I can picture them meeting at a younger age, just dating at first and then ending up married years later, while Shining and Cadance feel more like...well, pre-destined-to-love fairytale prince and princess. :P I'd like to see more of the Cakes in the future, it would be nice. :)

Hey you forgot Cranky and Matilda! THey got married right in our face on the 100th episode!

Apologies about that. And even though I've only seen them appear twice in two episodes.....I still rank their relationship over Shining Armor and Cadence.....simply because of how much sacrifices Cranky made....and how he devoted his life to finding her.

My oooonly issue with Cranky and Matilda is that efforts in the relationship has been executed to be one-sided. Cranky walks the earth to find her, seemed to have been the only one who thought about her all the time and searched for her endlessly while Matilda carelessly left a note and doesn't seem to put effort in their relationship as he does. BUT I'M NOT SAYING SHE DOESN'T. it's just executed that way by the writers. I'm sure Matilda thought of him all the same and there is no telling what she does for him off screen....just think it's unfair how one sided the show viewed their relationship

I have always wanted to know more about the cakes. They seem to give Ponyville more of a realistic home feel. The mane 6 go through so many crazy events that the Cakes seem to be a reminder that there are still normal ponies with normal lives in Equestria. I really like the adventure in the series, but I find the interaction between Mr. and Mrs. Cake relaxing in a way.

My headcanon is that Mrs. Cake's maiden name is "O'Sugar"; which would fit perfectly with her first name, Cup.

What I really like is that at different moments you see that they each take charge, being the head of the family in different circumstances. This conveys a great deal of community and communication between them.

I completely agree. And it's a shame they convey this more than the Mayor herself. I understand many don't see the point in her role since Twilight strikes more of Ponyville's leader and communicator than she does.

Had the writers given the Mayor THIS sort of role: in which she conveys a sense of community and communication not only with the mane 6, but other ponies as well....she would be more accepted by the brony community
