@@Lordav,  Sure, 10,000 well  trained armed people could take out way more non rifle people, but wouldn't you have to train people to get that kind of skill? Wouldn't it make it so that you still could resupply troops, but they would be nowhere as good as before?

Also, sorry for not being online, I went camping!

The whole idea of the firearm was that it was quick to use. THats why muskets replaced bow... not cuz they were necesserily better (at least the very early ones) but conscripts could be trained to use em in a matter of months (compared to the years needed for actually 'mastering' archery)

Yes you can, but then, your economy is going to get hit due to lack of manpower. That is the number of ponies ou can have searving in the army without actually affecting your nations economic structure.

Np, also, are you gonna pass those mountsins and pour into my lands -_-

@@CrimsonWeb,

But... what about this?

The scouts of anitha were far into the hills now, exploring farther then they had been ever before. They were almost at one of the peaks, the weather was so cold that the gear that they were wearing wouldn't let them move. But these were hard ponys, some of the best trained and drilled ponys in anitha. They were well versed in every skill to survive but none the less the harsh mountains were unforgiving. The leader, scriba, stood at the top of the mountain and looked out, a grin coming across her face. Turning to the rest of her group, she tilted her head "write home, tell them we found it"

@@Lordav,

They sent 2 people back, but it would take awhile for them to get over the mountains, in the mean time scriba thought that the remaining 3 should go make contact, and so they started down the hill :P

Anyone willing to send me a PM and offer thoughts or advice on roleplaying the Mane Six? Pinkie Pie especially may be hard to write for, and trying to show Applejack's accent may also be a problem. I actually worry about characterization in general.

BTW, Hetiandi is in close proximity to several other Rational nations, so you can except some intellectuals to speak in their familiar foreign languages. Similarly Hetiandi was taken over by northern tribes in one dynasty, so that was more of a flavor text. :P

Question, can language spells be a thing? Where you can learn a nation's language by way of magic.

Unless they already knew what language is being spoken, I think it should be impossible to translate a foregin language successfully without at least learning it first.

Well, if not, I offer that nations have their own tongue and then a common tongue. I feel forcing language barriers will slow down roleplay or prevent nations from interacting, so at least lets have it that such takes place in the background 'quickly'. Otherwise, this detail will be an annoyance for me.

All Rationals and Magics should have no problem interacting with each other. They're all close enough to recognize and easily translate their own languages...and in fact the language barrier, or at the least the difference in language itself, between the Scientifics and the Rationals could actually serve as a good plot tool. The only exception would be Skergahaven, who shouldn't have any issues interacting with some Rationals such as Woodbourough and Equestria or the sole Magical Medeis.

Why are people already fighting o-o

Well, it's just Pruine and Ponissia.

As for Hetiandi...a small patrol battalion isn't going to expect around ninety-thousand ponies coming right toward a small city, especially since they haven't been fighting for a good few decades. You could expect them to be a bit scared.

As a GW you shouldn't be number-abusing, tech-abusing, and flaunting your military power. I've been looking at your posts against Cruki and most, if not all of them, is literally counting the bullets they fire, or the number of soldiers on the battlefield, or listing causalities.

That's not how you nation-RP. Yes, in a Nation-RP you must manage your nation from time to time, but you wouldn't say how much bullets your guns are firing per minute, or how much ponies you have on your side in a regular RP, would you? Military power in a battle only needs a short mention in one post, mostly because it develops little to no actual content, and some RPers would find it a bit annoying with you mentioning your "480-bullet wave" or how a square-row formation works, or even believe that you're just "RPing to win", which even in a NRP, is not the case.

Instead of doing that, maybe it would be more interesting to focus on a certain drafted-private that's been forced to fight in the Pruine campaign, or maybe a mare that's writing home to her parents on the frigate you mentioned before. Anything is better than just "MILITARY POWER, NUMBER OF REGIMENTS, FIRING RATE, ETC."

Also, stop using "horsemen" or "cavalry", you're RPing ponies, not humans. Are you implying that a pony is riding on another pony?

"480-bullet wave" or how a square-row formation works, or even believe that you're just "RPing to win", which even in a NRP, is not the case.

Im actually giving technical dataon the weaponry in use so he gets an idea what he's up against. These are the actual numbers of the specific weapons, so then he knows how to counter em.

As a GW you shouldn't be number-abusing, tech-abusing, and flaunting your military power.

Im not number abusing at all... I love stats though.... statistics and numerical details. The millitary... well if you actually read my descritpion, the whole nation is a millitaristic state (based on prussia). So... thats pretty much the only thing the nation has... industry and millitary strength... I want other nations (ppl) to see us as arrogant due to our weaponry, therefore giving us a harder time. Basically, in trying to play europe in that period.

Also, thats exactly why i boosted numbers for all except the scis.... realized the tech advantages. Look at the new populations on the nat info.

"RPing to win", which even in a NRP, is not the case.

I am, if anything trying to win, planning to have revolutions/turmoil/terror in the future.

how a square-row formation works,

Not everybody knows Why/ how it worked, also it just goes in a little more detail... also if you lok at the title its Trade, Diplomacy & War

nstead of doing that, maybe it would be more interesting to focus on a certain drafted-private that's been forced to fight in the Pruine campaign, or maybe a mare that's writing home to her parents on the frigate you mentioned before. Well, that happened, there was the guys i had hunted (they got killed off)

Also, tried to get a 15 year old flute boy going on

And the boarding house dude Glooms with =p

And theres gonna be no war with Anthia and the shetlands.... thats gonna be all diplo (i hope)

Will try to write more of them tho =p

(I was actually afraid to not concentrate too much on individuals... like in the last one... oh well =p)

Also, stop using "horsemen" or "cavalry", you're RPing ponies, not humans. Are you implying that a pony is riding on another pony?

Nope, im implying their riding horsesw (you remember... the saddle arabia dignitaries.

And yes... it can happen:

sig-4237834.sig-4237834.sig-4237834.pink

I've been looking at the colonisation, and I have been thinking that rather than a flat is / is not colonised, having a few 'tiers' of colonisation would work better. The first tier is a small outpost, not fully self-sufficient and relying on supplies from home. Tier two would be self-sufficient and starting to produce goods to be shipped home, as well as slowly expanding its population. Tier three would be a thriving new town with significant resource production and a sizable population. Tier four would be roughly on par with the homeland (at least in the urban areas.)

That way, you could gate colonisation by limiting how high a tier colonies can be based on its distance from the homeland and the stage in the RP - if you want to grab a dozen colonies from the get-go then fine, but it will cost you a fortune, probably get you into a fight with someone else who wants the land and won't produce anything of value for some time to come. It would also mean that you could colonise more distant areas, but not develop them as quickly. Another idea would be a 'development cost' and a 'maintenance cost' - the first is to establish the colony, the second to keep it running. As it develops, maintenance goes down and resources supplied by it go up (along with the population) to a point where the resources are more valuable than the money spent on the colony (financial self-sufficiency - the final stage, and when they might start getting ideas about independence...)

On another subject, my assumption is that the Shetland-Ponssia telegraph wires can be laid before the end of autumn, having started in early summer.

Whisper, The City of Darkness;    Carto Sketch  - The Dark Millennium

Participating in this RP can be agonizing sometimes.
