A question of charity (towards gamers)

EDIT-Please keep in mind, this is a hypothetical question that is geared towards needy children. I did not make that clear when I first posted this.

I know we are not allowed to ask for donations or sell things on this site without permission, but that begs the question: If asked, would you donate? How deep would you be willing to dig into your own pockets to make someone else happy(er)? A hug and kind words are great, and advice freely given more valuable than gold at times, but sometimes a person's happiness relies on that one thing they have wanted but could never afford. Most of the time, especially in today's world, that happiness comes from Video Games.

Video games are a wonderful experience that can entertain, lift spirits, and generally make people FEEL. They can transport you to a galaxy at war, a world of magic, or even an alternate reality to our own. Sometimes, a person measures themselves by their accomplishments in those games because they have no other way to feel that sense of accomplishment. While it may not be healthy to rely on that, those people who get satisfaction from saving the girl, world, or just surviving the 5th night may not be able to keep experiencing that satisfaction just from replaying the same titles over and over.

So many great games are coming in the next year alone, and while many will play those games, some will not. They will either be unable to afford the systems or the games themselves (Heck, I can't afford either!!!). So I ask: If you had the means and opportunity, what would you be willing to give so that a gamer could be happy?

P.S.- This doesn't have to be just about Video Games. Heck post this sort of question (with the games parts edited out of course) in other threads, and let's see how charitable others can be!!! :squee:

If its a kid I could understand them not being able to afford it, but if you're an adult maybe you should use that time to work for more money. Video games can be addictive, and people are addicted to the point where it can cause problems like other addictions, so it would be hard to tell who I should give them to. I my self cant afford to buy some one a new game, so I guess dupes and keys I don't want from the humble bundle I don't want. Another thing to say is videogames are a luxury not a need, and one that's not like warm water or not raged clothes. A lot of gamers I see are just lazy adults so if any thing they need rehab, so not too interested in giving to any one but kids and the handy caped.

Depends on the game. If it's a game that I love and think that everyone should play (like Undertale, for example), then I would happily buy a copy of it for a friend if he/she wants to play it but can't afford it. But if it's a game that I don't know anything about or don't care about, then I wouldn't buy a copy of it for someone else.

EDIT: I made a mistake with this post. In the text above, I was actually talking about that I would willingly give a copy of a game as a gift to someone else if I like the game, rather than if I would donate money to someone who can't afford a game, which was what the OP was talking about.

So, to actually answer your question: Probably not.

Holy shit, that is the most elaborate beg I have ever seen

I wouldn't give much, since I don't have much to give. Also I don't like to give, since it makes people like me for the wrong reasons.

The thing I do love to give though, is advice!

My first advice to a gamer on a budget is to buy the best games.

"Yeah duh!".

No, what I mean is that you should understand that the best games aren't necessarily expensive, nor even hard to run.

Don't believe me? Fly over to steam right now and grab To The Moon for 2$ on 75% off. It can run on any system, so if you can read this, you can also play the game.

And don't think it's simply a cheap alternative, no, I'd still play this over CoD even if I had a 10'000$ system.

Sorry if it sounded like I was begging for anything, that wasn't my intention. And I agree wholeheartedly with Keyclipse and flutersparkle that games are a luxury. And you are right about giving making people like you for the wrong reasons. I'll edit the question a bit to make it a bit clearer.

Don't worry, there was nothing wrong with the post, it made me laugh

There is nothing wrong with begging, unless it's low effort,  :P
