Was the Theme of Season 2 about Love?

Did anyone notice that love was a recurring theme in season 2 episodes compared to season 1 where it was hardly ever mentioned? Well, I guess there was Blue Blood but that turned out as a disaster and portrayed it negatively.

1) Hearts and Hooves Day with Cheerilee and Big Mac

2) Cranky Doodle and Matilda from Friend in Deed

3) Mr. and Mrs. Cake had babies in Baby Cakes

4) Spike confesses feelings to Rarity in Secret of my Excess

5) Canterlot Wedding pt 1 and 2 with Shining Armor and Cadence

Final episode spoilers following:

Also find it interesting that they eschewed using the Elements of Harmony (which is all about friendship) in favor of The Power of Love. Are they wanting to say that love is better than friendship in the grand scheme of things? Or just a mere marketing ploy?

Interesting theory, but remember that they were going to use the elements of harmony they just couldn't reach it. Which probably means its just a marketing ploy, If they used the elements of harmony and it didn't work THAN love would be more powerful.

1) Hearts and Hooves Day with Cheerilee and Big Mac

That was a Valentines' Day episode, so it seemed pretty lovey-dovey just for the occasion.

2) Cranky Doodle and Matilda from Friend in Deed

I didn't see much love in that episode. More of a happy theme than a romantic one.

3) Mr. and Mrs. Cake had babies in Baby Cakes

I dunno. We barely saw the 2 of them in the episode, as it was a Pinkie episode.

4) Spike confesses feelings to Rarity in Secret of my Excess

Definitely! It brung the love between these two characters to life (in a very King-Kong style).

5) Canterlot Wedding pt 1 and 2 with Shining Armor and Cadence

Yes, yes, yes! Very settled upon the love between Cadence and Shining Armour.

Maybe you have a point. But I only see an increase in the love theme as the season progressed.

He was traveling the world searching for her all his life. I thought it was romantic but kind of tragic too cause he sacrificed his youth in the process.

Hmmm... interesting. But don't you think that spreading the message of 'love' onto children is a bit... odd? I mean, friendship is important and should be embrassed, but love between two people? I feel that's more of an 'adult' thing (not implying anything naughty).

But still, i like this idea of season's having themes, maybe season 3 will be Lust Equality, something like Equal rights, that'd get Zecora tons of screen time :)

I don't know. Its okay to teach kids that love is a good thing. Disney's been doing it for a long time from all the fairy tales they've stolen. I guess it only gets strange if you sexualize it since love and sex are two different things.

Well, some of the episodes lately have been more geared towards older viewers kinda like them saying "Hey, we have alot of older viewers out there, let's throw them a bone or two." I think it's more of the show's creators acknowledging us bronies, but they still have to keep in mind that children watch the show as well. :)

How he's laying down his life

Take this life, oh most dazzling precious treasure

Sounds plausible. All of the above count, and, in keeping with MLP's theme at large, in the words of Adam Lambert, "all we need in this world is some love". *is a Lambert fan*
