critique wanted How should I make an OC?

I feel like having a rainbow whale as a profile picture won't be enough, so I want some tips to 1. concept an OC and 2. to draw one.

I'm kind of a sketchy, 8-year-old comic-y drawer. If you wanna see an example...

Wanna help?

I'm no expert, and I know everyone has they're own style in making an OC ,

but my method is coming up with a cool name then trying to find out what that name represents...

Ex.

Scribble Sketch , because I'm guessing you like the doodles :)

>What kind of character do you imagine when you think of an OC named scribble sketch?

>What kind of cutie mark? (probably stick figure)

>Mane Style? color? species? same as above, also I imagine him being a unicorn and animating his scribbles XD

Edit: Apparently  that name's already been taken by a D.A , but it doesn't really matter , there are a ton of OCs with similar names and most people don't care.

as for  drawing it , there isa LOT of help out there

this is a link to a thread that might help

There is no set-in-stone instructions to make or design an OC. Just make sure that by the end of it, you have characteristics such as species, gender, color scheme, mane and tail, cutie mark, personality and backstory figured out. All of these things intertwine. It's a seemingly random process that happens after prototype after prototype.

Pony Creator is useful for tinkering with the colors and are best kept as just a beta or prototype. I guess it's fine to have it the final design if you're really going for something more generic-looking, I guess. You would best come up with the mane and tail style yourself.

Oh and do avoid making the OC an alicorn and it helps if the OC's colors are soft on the eyes.

Everyone with a little work can draw well, but for those of us who have absolutely no artistic talent or are too lazy -*cough*me*cough*- there are a lot of online pony creators. Or sometimes people will draw your OC for you.
