Solar looked up at Scarlett, shocked from seeing Amber's sudden outburst at Lightning.

 

"I don't know!" She yelped, looking a bit panicked, "She was feeling better and all of a sudden she started screaming at him to get out!"

 

Figuring she might be feeling withdrawal again, she grabbed her friend in another hug. "Calm down, it's okay...!"

Scarlett moved to the other side of the door frame so she could see and listen to Lightning but still see into the room. Awaiting a response from Solar, she listening to Lightning all while taking frequent glances into the room.

 

She muttered to herself "I told them not to use live ammunition" as she turned to Lightning after he was done speaking and said "So she assumed you had died right? And now she thinks something's wrong with her as somepony she thought was dead 'appears' right after a bad case of withdrawal?"

 

"Well....it had never occurred to me that she thought I was 'dead'...... why did I barge in like that?!?!" Lightning banged his head against the wall. "Stupid, stupid, I should have KNOWN this might happen!!! I'm supposed to be the smart one, so why didn't I act smart?! UGH!" He starts pacing back and forth. "Now she'll NEVER want to talk to me, damn it!"

"Well....it had never occurred to me that she thought I was 'dead'...... why did I barge in like that?!?!" Lightning banged his head against the wall. "Stupid, stupid, I should have KNOWN this might happen!!! I'm supposed to be the smart one, so why didn't I act smart?! UGH!" He starts pacing back and forth. "Now she'll NEVER want to talk to me, damn it!"

Scarlett received the response from Sapphire and assumed the gate had been shut down. She stepped into the room with Solar and Amber and closed the door behind her. She propped her front onto the bed and lowered herself so her head was just above the covers "Hey Amber, what's wrong?"

Scarlett received the response from Sapphire and assumed the gate had been shut down. She stepped into the room with Solar and Amber and closed the door behind her. She propped her front onto the bed and lowered herself so her head was just above the covers "Hey Amber, what's wrong?"

 

"What's wrong...? Oh, I'll tell you what's bucking wrong!" She spat through gritted teeth, her chest heaving up and down violently.

Scarlett began to get worried as the pony before her started to lose it. She stood up and in a calm and kind voice said "Amber, you need to calm down. Not only for your own sanity's sake but for the fact that you do not want to aggravate your system after a partial withdrawal. Lay down on your back, and take long deep breaths. I know that you know it will help."

Solar hit Flame with the darkest look anypony had ever seen on her. It was actually quite unsettling.

"Shut up."

 

 

"What's wrong...? Oh, I'll tell you what's bucking wrong!" She spat through gritted teeth, her chest heaving up and down violently.

 

 

 

 

"No, I will NOT calm down!" She felt her lungs screaming out in pain as she yelled the words. "HE is supposed to be DEAD!" She pointed an accusing hoof towards the doorway, implying her words were directed towards Lightning. "I bucking threw dirt on his COFFIN! "I don't want this now. I don't-" She stuck her face into Solar's coat, silently sobbing into the fur. Any remaining bit of sense or sensibility she may have had was crushed. "I don't want to deal with all this. I just want to be away from all this. Too many ponies, too many crowds, too much noise." She sniffled, her lungs still feeling on fire from screaming earlier.

 

"I just want to be with you...I just...I w-want it to be quiet." She almost whispered the final word.

Scarlett observed from her dark little corner. She watched as Solar, her daughter no less, cared for another pony so easily. It almost seemed to come naturally to her. It was quite a sight. She had lost count how many people she had held in her forelegs when they had lost someone.

With the way the situation has been developing, Specter had not wanted to get himself involved in anything. He didn't understand social interaction anyway.

 

During the time the ponies had been down on the planet, Specter had been remotely hacking terminals all across the areas of the ship he could access, learning what every he could. All he got so far were small bits of unimportant information, but he had developed a countermeasure for the security systems. His theory was, that if he use this method to hack into the main control terminal in the observation deck, it should allow him to access the main Database for the ship with unrestricted access to data. A theory is a theory but it never hurts to try.

 

Priorities first though, the dwindling power on the ship was cause for concern, if patters are to be made, they would again need to travel to find alternate sources of energy. Is it too much to ask for things to run smoothly? It's like we're all just the twisted created of beings in another dimension. Ahh, what I wouldn't give for some good luck for once.

Amber decided it best to follow the pony ahead of her. Despite the intimidating cloak, and shady introductions, she seemed to have a pretty good knowledge of...wherever she was. There didn't seem to be much to the dream, just a blank canvas with a carefully thought-out stone pathway that curved and weaved through unseen contours and valleys. The stranger ahead of her had offered to be a guide upon arrival. Not that I would need a guide, Amber thought to herself, It's my dream, I could have been fine on my own. But there was something that compelled her to follow this pony and so that she did.

 

Unlike her usual escapades in the realm of sleep, this one felt slightly out of touch. Possibly because of her body felt none of the pain it did back on the ship. That, or the emptiness of everything before her. Then again... She mulled, everything seems oddly familiar at the same time... 

 

"You are correct to think so, Amber." The pony spoke, her voice quite gruff and throaty. Creepy too. "You should know this place very well indeed. Please, continue to follow and do not stray off the path."

 

"Oh, really?" Amber smirked at this stranger trying to boss her around. "Why not? Is the boogie pony gonna get me?" For all her might, she just wanted to roll her eyes and will herself to wake up. No such luck this time though.

 

"Do not jest about such things. The white darkness that surrounds us is not to be toyed with." The stranger swivelled to face Amber. A navy blue muzzle protruded out of her hood, narrowly avoiding the heavy shadows that covered her face. "This path is all that saves you from your fears; loneliness, isolation, depression...all of it is entombed within the white realm."

 

"R-really?" Amber squinted her eyes. "I can't see anything out there. Heh."

 

"You see only what you chose to see. After all, you have been doing nothing but hiding yourself away from your worst fears, correct?" A blue hoof extended just barely into Amber's peripheral and in a blinding flash, the white washed away, replaced with a hellish landscape of fire and molten rock. 

 

"Sweet Celestia!" Amber exclaimed. She backed up so that she was firmly on the path. "W-what...why are you showing me this?"

 

"Because your fears are killing you Amber. This valley used to once be beautiful and peaceful, but with time, you shut yourself away. From your family, your friends, everypony you knew..." Amber felt herself forcefully grabbed and stuck staring at the hell before her. "This is the end result. Your mind is slowly being destroyed. This path is all that remains. The only safe haven where you can be truly happy." 

 

Her eyes grew wide with shock. She turned to the stranger in disgust. "I don't let my fears determine who I am! How can they be destroying me? I am happy with the choices I have made!" 

 

"But are you? Truly?" The stranger snapped. "Because all I see is a pony trying to hide who she really is. Hiding what she really feels. You would have hid your morphine addiction from them if you had been able to! You would have even hid it from Solar..."

 

"Shut. Up." Amber bit down on her lip, nervously twizzling her hoof. "I-I would have told her...eventually."

 

"Amber, you must come to terms with everything in your life. You can't just carry this baggage around otherwise the ponies around you will start to get hurt." There was a brief pause. "But I'm sure you've already hurt some ponies after your little morphine escapade in the desert."

 

"It's not like I can just click a button..." Amber muttered in response, looking to the floor. "It's not that easy."

 

"Your father was not your fault. Lightning was not your fault. Corbulo was not your fault." A hoof wrapped around Amber's neck as the stranger tried to comfort her. "When are you going to learn that?"

 

"I-I don't know...I mean, I guess it wasn't my fault." Amber said, staring off into the distance. "Doesn't mean I feel any better about it all though. I've still...messed up one too many times."

 

"Then move past it. You have to keep on moving, its how we survive! Your carrying too much weight on your shoulders, and you're not going to be moving anywhere fast until you let go." The stranger whispered. "Just let go."

 

Amber shut her eyes as a single tear fell.

Solar could feel Amber starting to calm down in her embrace, and her sobbing had ceased to make way for more peaceful breathing.

 

Must've tuckered herself out, she guessed, smiling.

 

With much care, she lowered her marefriend down onto the bed and pulled the covers over her, then sat by the bed and kept an eye on her like a hawk in case she had another panic attack.

"So, is this all you dragged me out here for?" Amber muttered in contempt. "Make me feel bad about myself as usual?"

 

There was a pause from the stranger, who stayed sat down staring at Amber with what could only be described as a very stoic expression. "This dream is yours Amber. You are free to leave and wander. But just remember...avoid the white."

 

"Oh no no, don't worry, you made that plenty clear." Amber quickly replied, shutting her down. Well if I can roam, I guess I'll roam a bit. She thought and set off down the path further.

 

The path wasn't all that was left it seemed. A few distant memories: the family house, arriving at Icarus, Canterlot...it was all there, strewn out along the path. She couldn't help but smile at some of them. Her mind may have been clouded by many oppressive and nightmarish things, but there were still small fragments that she could feel comfortable in. That she could feel happy in. The path became a little more fragmented as she pressed on further, but she decided to ignore it, gazing up and around at the surreal dreamscape.

 

She saw a house coming up in front of her that she didn't recognise however. Her curiosity was piqued and so she decided to trot over to it. It was a rather simple house, although pleasant. White walls with flowers decorating every window sill. A small door made out of some fine oak with a cute welcome mat placed underneath. She put a hoof to the door and walked on in. She instantly regretted it.

 

The whole interior was completely covered by maple syrup. Any sort of heirlooms or furniture were lost in the sea of pure sugary sweetness. Amber was careful to avoid getting too much on herself, despite the temptation being there. The pegasus peaked around a corner and her eyes shrunk. What the...

 

Solar stood in the middle of the dining room, absolutely smothered in syrup. Amber's cheeks heated up completely, in fact, her entire coat seemed to be going red. S-Solar Senpai....

 

"Oh my gosh! Amber, I'm so glad you're here!" Solar bounded over to her, syrup flicking off of her coat and wings. "Look at how syrupy my butt is!"

 

"Ohmigosh, Solar no!" Amber let out a girly scream as Solar dived head first into her, the two ending up in a sticky mess on the floor. "WHY ARE YOU COVERED IN SYRUP."

 

"WHY ARE YOU NOT?"

 

"I UH...I don't know actually." Amber paused for the briefest of seconds as Solar stood over her, grinning like a filly. "Bah, what the hell." She grabbed Solar and got a long, sugary kiss from her. I need something to lighten the mood, this might just be it.

As he looked through the door, he saw Sapphire fuming while giving more orders than a drill sergeant. Okay, she's definitely WAY worse that I thought. If we ever get home, I'm getting an audience with Princess Twilight, first thing, because this is RIDICULOUS! he thought. "On second thought, we should probably think this through. Any ideas?"
