Black Sabbath 2,486 December 28, 2015 Share December 28, 2015 It's a lot better than having people running around and just saying "lol" and such things.
Scrubbed user 3,416 December 28, 2015 Share December 28, 2015 It's to make you have to actually make an effort in your posts. At one point, there was a 100 character limit across the entire site.
Chara 1,565 December 28, 2015 Share December 28, 2015 The reason for these 20 character minimum things is because the MLP Forums wants you to make quality posts. This will get annoying but this is to insure that your posts are good enough for the topic you are discussing. There are places in the MLP Forums that allow you to not need 20 characters in order to make a full post for example the forum games in Cloudsdale Colosseum or when you are making blogs. 1 signature made by myself. Jeric 46,854 December 28, 2015 Share December 28, 2015 Can we get rid of the 20 character thing? It's annoying. I am moving this to feedback as this is not a technical issue or a bug. Long ago we did not have a character minimum. The result was a lot of posts that lacked coherence or anything that resembled substance. Thus my predecessors inacted the character minimum. It used to be higher than 20 characters all areas, but we did lower it to be more fair. We actually take a lot of pride in the fact that we require a small measure of thought to be displayed in out posts. To be direct, 20 characters is not a lot ... at all. At this time the character minimum will be staying. This includes the higher threshold found in Debate Pit and some RP areas.
Jokuc 8,174 December 28, 2015 Share December 28, 2015 Just as Jeric said, the character minimum helps us get some discussions going. Before the character minimum existed I remember a bunch of people just posting "yes", "no" or "idk" in a bunch of threads to boost their post count. The issue now though is that a lot of people use "blah blah filler text, annoying char minimum" as a solution, even though it's against the rules. Here are 20 characters.
00000000000000000000 32 December 28, 2015 Author Share December 28, 2015 My apologies for placing this in the wrong section, and fair enough. Thank you for the fair ruling and the fairly quick response.
cider float 2,538 December 30, 2015 Share December 30, 2015 I would say about 15 characters seems good but eh I suppose I'll just have to live with this.
Foxy Socks 2,599 January 13, 2016 Share January 13, 2016 I actually like how on this forum there are posts longer than just a few words. It's annoying when someone posts without adding anything to the topic. Besides, 20 characters isn't very long. 2 My OC: https://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/foxy-socks-r9861
Discordian 6,015 January 16, 2016 Share January 16, 2016 It's really only annoying if all you want to post is a one or two word response. You made this topic, which was very concise, did you not? </late to the party>
