Could Unicorns stop bullets with their magic?

I'm guessing alicorns would be able to, and likely certain unicorns as well. I think Shining Armor could probably stop a bullet because his talent is shield magic.

Unicorns can easily stop bullets considering the following reasons:

 

1. Barrier shields that practiced unicorns can pull off.

2. Telekinesis to catch them.

3. Teleportation as ponies in mlp have some insane reaction speeds, such as RD being a lightning dodger. More powerful unicorn and battle hardened ponies can easily avoid them.

4.Heck they can even use their own levitation to avoid the fire for the after mentioned reasons.

5. Even just tank it. Considering how ponies have survived worse attacks and hits then bullets without such protections, I don't even think bullets will hurt them.

 

 

A thing a lot people tend to underestimate pony's abilities in FIM. Bullets power comes mainly from how much force it's projecting from it's speed. In a verse where we have ponies go crashing through buildings at high speeds, survive magic blasts, dodge lightning very well, and are able to fly at over Mach speeds easily, a supersonic bullet is not going to be as threatening to a FIM pony as say to us. It's not to say it's definite they won't hurt of course as hitting one point can still kill a FIM pony, but they are more capable of handling it then we are in comparison.

They would have to essentially start the spell before the bullet left the barrel or they would not be able to lock onto it in flight due to the speed it was moving. 

 

This is something royal guards would end up specially trained in (locate guns, lock them down BEFORE the bullets come out)

 

As for magical shields, I doubt they are generally set up for such a large amount of kinetic energy on a small area.  Of course this could deform the bullet, so AP shells would work better than normal bullets.  My thought is a bullet would pass through a magical shield without bringing it down but causing a lot of shock to the unicorn in question and deforming the bullet such that a normal round would do far less damage.  Explosive rounds would go off at the shield which would make it a more standard thing the shields are meant to counter -- there it would depend on the power of the unicorn controlling the shield.

If they know what Guns are and see that someone is trying to shoot them soon enough, than they should be able to stop the bullets.

 

Or at least after some time, they would develop a Spell for that.

True, but we're talking about ponies who can react and dodge to lightning here. I don't think bullets would pose much issues honestly.

There aren't even guns in the show yet. The Appaloosa ponies seem to been likely the ones to use guns in the war with the buffaloes but instead they used pies.... so yeah.

 

Thus the ponies wouldn't even know what a gun is. Yes you can argue Pinkie Pie has a party cannon but still no guns.

I don't think using telekenesis will work, as you need to have insanely quick reaction times to actually get the bullet. We're talking catching bullets here.

 

However, if you use a shield, you could probably stop a bullet, or at least diverge it. The energy that's in a bullet isn't that high. The power of bullets is that it's concentrated and goes through stuff.

If you had a shield that just absorbed all the energy from moving objects, then it could take quite a few bullets.

 

For example, that shield that shining had that stopped the changelings from invading, that shield took quite a lot of changelings who rammed it with full power.

I'm pretty sure that a lot of changelings at full speed have more energy than a bullet.

 

I feel like calculating this later.

Cannons can still count as guns considering that they have similar mechanisms to fire so I'd say they have the tech, but due to show rating preventing it from being shown, I mean, shows not PG-13 rating and above will throw a fit if you even show a gun that shoots bullets instead of lasers, we won't see it anytime soon if ever.

Unless we're talking about an already prepared shield... no they could not stop a bullet.

 

If caught of guard by surprise the sheer speed of a bullet would leave them utterly defenceless. Even then, a magic barrier could only take only so many bullets before they shatter and leave the unicorn vulnerable to being hit.   

 

A sniper with a silencer and magical enhanced rond could easily pick off even shielded unicorns.

You have to understand bullets before considering anything else..

 

Most likely you won't be able to see the bullets to "catch" them, they're moving just too fast..

Or at least too fast to be able to focus and envelope unicorn energy around it to slow it down and levitate it..

Also they wouldn't have been able to project a shield fast enough to shield against the bullet either..

 

If a pony was going to be shot, it's likely they wouldn't realize anyway..

As 1: They might not notice the shooter or the gun itself..

and 2: They probably don't know what guns are, so they wouldn't know to avoid them..

 

Short answer is, no.. they probably couldn't..

 

But then again.. perhaps they could if they were enchanted to defend against kinetic forces..

Which could possibly slow down the bullets before they hit, then they just drop..

 

An enchantment of this particular power would have a strong power draw, when it's used to

defend against multiple kinetic forces.. (multiple bullets) as such, the unicorn in question would

probably lose their magic (and their lives..) half way through the fight if this were the case..

 

But yeah.. that's my input on the subject.. Still interesting to think about..

I think some of them can. But not every. Only who has strong protective spells like Shining Armor.

Actually you take a shield like that one that Shining made over all of Canterlot.  A bullet would probably have a better chance of getting through that shield than a nuke, simply because of how a bullet works.  Now one of our bunker busters -- that would be optimal.

Unicorns are the most OP of the ponies. 

I think some could (Shining Armor, any princess, etc) but Twilight's magic couldn't stop Rainbow Dash when they were chasing her, but granted this was earlier in the series.

Without a doubt.

 

We've seen Unicorns maintain a shield to cover an entire city, rebuild dams and fuse rock while working against immense water pressure, generate and defend against powerful energy beams, simultaneously levitate dozens and even hundreds of objects,  move celestial objects and manipulate time.  So yeah, I doubt stopping a bullet would be overly taxing.

I assume it'd be really hard due to the amount of speed and velocity the bullet is traveling at.

 

Since unicorns use magic like we use our hands, I assume it'd be the same as us catching the bullet with our hand. (assuming we don't get hurt and all)

 

Or maybe you can travel in a car going as fast as a bullet and stick your hand out the window while trying to keep it from falling back to see what it would feel like.

Far as I'v seen the unicorns only have as much of a reflex as a human so they wouldn't have as much time to react to a gunshot unless they were Batman.
