How did you become a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic?

One day (just before the season 1 episode 4 came out) I was on youtube and saw the intro to it. I checked the comments seeing people saying that "You should really check it out". I gave into temptation and I have been a brony since!

 

What do you enjoy most about the show?

Honestly, everything. I like the complex characterisations of the characters that us bronies of a higher age than the actual age target can understand. And while it does this it also appeals to the original target. I love all the episodes and how things all sort out.

 

Do you participate in the MLP:FIM fandom? If so, in what way(s)? What do you enjoy most about the fandom?

I enjoy to make fanfics (Doctor Whooves, mainly) and I do some drawings about it. I enjoy all the music made, pretty much everything actually.

 

Who is your favorite pony, and why? What are this pony’s best characteristics?

Out of the mane 6, Rainbow Dash. I like her courage and dedication. Not to mention the never-ending loyalty she gives.

Out of all, Derpy Hooves. I like her because she is just so awesome in my view (the way she talks (original cut) and acts).

 

Do other people in your (offline) life know that you like MLP? If so, how have they reacted?

Only my brother and one of my parents. They both acted fine about it.

 

Do you do anything MLP-related besides watch the show?

Make fanfics and drawings. Sometimes buy some stuff. But they're normally for give-aways.

It has changed me because it has changed my view on how to act towards people after what they do. Never had a relationship at the time so....

 

Why do you think MLP:FIM has attracted a Brony fan base?

I think it attracted such a fan base because of all the stuff it shows and how Hasbro dedicates to us bronies and shouts out to us (Like giving hints to us like called Derpy "Derpy").

I am involved in other things but with everything else I am not as involved as I am with MLP: FiM.

1) How did you become a fan of MLP FIM?

A:I actually had two friends that watched it and the rest of us of course (theres was probably like 15 of us) just laughed at it. So one night I was bored so I started watching it and instantly loved it ^.^

 

2) What do you enjoy most about the show?

A: I just find it entertaining I'm not very into fanfic and art and stuff I just think its a great show and deserves to be recognized. it's just so innocent and nice much better than most of the crap on TV

A: Not a lot I go on these forums some but thats about it really. I have read 1 or 2 fanfics and they were pretty good though so I don't dislike the fandom at all.

 

4) What pony is your favorite and why?

A: Fluttershy because she reminds me of me. She likes animals ^.^ though I do talk a little more lol.

 

5) Do other people in your (offline) life know that you like MLP? If so, how have they reacted?

A: Like I said 2 of my friends like it the rest don't hate on it they just haven't really watched it.

A: No not really besides talk on the forums a little.

A: No not really to be honest though I have been noticeably happier during the day. But no I didn't loose any friends because of it or anything.

A: I think about this a lot. The simple answer? I don't know. It's just a good show that people with common sense enjoy.

A: It is very singular. I've never been a fan of anything like this show. I pretty much watch sports, the walking dead, and MLP.

Most of my friends know and they poke fun at me for it but it's all in good fun, my family also knows and they don't really care one way or the other.

Pre-MLP I wasn't the nicest of people but after I started watching the show I've really mellowed out and become an all-around better person.

I'm not really sure. Every Brony has their own reason and story for loving the show so every answer you get will be different.

A friend on the internet was telling a bunch of people about the show, and explaining how awesome it was. I decided to give it a try, not knowing what was waiting for me around the corner.

 

What do you enjoy most about the show?

The fact that each and every pony has their own personality, and every single person on this planet can relate to one pony in some way.

No, but I am an upcoming musician (my progress has been slow), and I plan to make fan music! I enjoy the fan art and music. They are amazing.

From the Mane 6, I'd have to say Twilight. She is kind and intelligent, and adorable too, haha. I love how she always goes to books for information on something she doesn't know.

Yes. People just look at me weird, and ask me why. They don't make fun of me, except for this one kid, but I gave him a death stare and he never bothered me again. True story. xD

Browse fan art, and listen to fan music. Brony musicians are really the only musicians I listen to nowadays.

I get toys sometimes. I have a Rarity toy on my keychain now. I dont usually buy them myself. People will just give them to me when they find out I am a brony.

Because its so well made and relatable. It has many good qualities, and I would be more suprised if it DIDNT get the fan base it has.

About the show itself, or does this include the fanbase? For the show, Equestria is a near-perfect world that offers me an escape from the stresses of life on Earth. The show is also generally well made (good character development, nice animation, ect.)

Yes, I participate in the fandom much more than I actually watch the show. The fandom has very nice and loving people in it. The fan-made work is amazing. I read alot of fanfictions, go on mlpforums quite a bit, read comics, great brony-made music.

Who is your favorite pony, and why? What are this pony’s best characteristics?

Fluttershy is best pony. I can very much relate to her since I am shy irl and like nature/animal type things. I love that she wasn't corrupted by discord as easily as the others were. Although she's normally rather submissive, she always stands up against injustices.

My family doesn't seem to care, my non-brony friend was said "you to?", or something like that. I haven't told anyone else.

I heard some of my friends talking about best pony and wanted to have an opinion, so I watched a few episodes and didn't stop.

 

What do you enjoy most about the show?

 

I can't just say one. First off, the Voice acting is absolutely amazing, the animation is exceptional and the story-telling is simply brilliant.

I participate a fair amount. First and foremost I'm part of these forums, I visit Equestria daily every day and try to support the fan-made art, music and fiction-writing. I do some drawings myself and am planning to try making some music as soon as I get the chance. My favourite thing about the fandom is that we're known for being the nicest/kindest fandom on the internet.

Pinkie Pie. I love Pinkie Pie because she is funny and always happy. The real thing that makes me love Pinkie so much is that her biggest wish is for everyone to be happy and that is so beautiful/cute.

Yes, most of my friends know and have taken it pretty well, My parents also know and have taken it quite nicely.

I looked into the avatar's of the people in a forum called simtropolis and looked into the avatar's and found that they got it from the show and then went from there.

 

What do you enjoy most about the show?

 

The animation and the story in a episode, the animation is by far astonishing and the episodes are great with the characters having different personalities and life's.

I sometimes do, I participate in the fandom by making music, videos and soon in my magic; I enjoy the music, roleplays and the art, not forgetting the stories.

My favorite pony is Rainbow Dash, she matches my description and gave me the bravery to do things and talk back to/in front of others, her best characteristics are bravery and athleticism.

There really isn't one answer to this if that's what you are looking for, one of the thing's is animation, another is the music and others are there because they got a problem in their life, don't forget the ponies personality.

I am white that's Irish and I am part black because of how well I can make the voice and I am a man that's straight; I'm also in the middle class that's a student in High school.

How did you become a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic?

At first I had a friend I met from the internet. I was talking to him one day when he mentioned the character 'fluttershy'. I had no idea what he was talking about, and I made that clear. He then INSISTED that I watch being open minded as I am I watched episode one, two, three etc... I was addicted and by then it was 7 episodes in I think and I tuned it for new shows almost every week and couldnt get enough!

 

What do you enjoy most about the show?

The show is light hearted and unlike kids shows it's relatable. It's not pushing the little kid factor down your throat. The show has great characters that aren't cheesy and predictable but each one has its own traits. The voice acting and animation is nothing less then "SO AWESOME!!"

Being a newer member to the community side of MLP: FiM I haven't really got around to it. Sorry :/

 

Who is your favorite pony, and why? What are this pony’s best characteristics?

Derpy Hooves is my favorite background pony for many reasons. I love her (old) eyes, her (old) voice. Her whole theme is just a mirror of me. I see the same clumzy, silly theme as I do when I go through my daily life.

Now my favorite mane character casted pony, would have to be rainbow dash. Her demeaner and talent isso great to watch. I love her reactions her looks. I love her ADHD type of ways which also reflects me. I play many sports intermural wise. Basketball, Football all those sports.

 

Do other people in your (offline) life know that you like MLP? If so, how have they reacted?

Some do. I only have told my best friends about it. I can't risk losing my status for something like that, the chance doesnt't present it self anyways. Not denying I'm embaressed. But the people around me don't accept that type of thing. My area consists of closed minded Assholes, that would shut you down and call you offensive terms for small things. Not saying this has happened to me I've managed to play my cards right in this Community (offline).

I hate to say no but it's true. I don't get chances to go out to these events being in a seasgore community in cape cod mass. I would get grief from my friends anyways.

I do think MLP:FiM has changed my life significantly. I've been into the show from the start and I do think every episode I take the lesson away. Again the show is believable and reason like. Every moment is a treat that can change your perspective every time you watch.

 

Why do you think MLP:FIM has attracted a Brony fan base?

Because the show isn't really to kiddish. I know by the theme; pink ponies and stuff like that. But the overall show incorperates so much real life problems and relatable characters. It lets us real men express our selves, this is key. It really is a quite funny show that reaches through the younger audience to older folks with witty actions and mischevious humor, not to mention all the hilarious and random jokes I could quote.

Nope. Mostly all I do is watch the show and enjoy every second of being a brony worth it. I have just started up on 'forums'. Just thought it would be a great expieriance. It has been worth it, everypony I've seen and meet are great people. I think I will be a brony forever TBH.

How did you become a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic?

 

I have been an avid Internet user for a a while. I was fer familiar with Internet memes, and constantly stumbled upon MLP-related images all the time. After a short time of my friend telling me how good it was, I decided to watch the pilot episode one night, and I was easily hooked.

 

 

What do you enjoy most about the show?

 

Almost too many things to list. The animation is revolutionary- it's smoother, more colorful, more simple, than today's cartoons, and is the absolute best work in a cartoon I've seen in a while. The deep story provides an interesting legacy and inspirations for the fanbase. The ambience, as well as the show in general make it entertaining for people of all ages, but signifcantly balanced for both in ways that reach out to each group (little children and 15-40 year olds) respectively in ways that are easily understood.

 

 

Do you participate in the MLP:FIM fandom? If so, in what way(s)? What do you enjoy most about the fandom?

 

Not really, sometimes I "roleplay", in which participants take part in an improv-like story that is made up as it goes. They play as their characters, each with as much history and personality as the characters in the show. I enjoy the random because it's a wide group. And certainly unusual for My Little Pony. I'm very happy for the franchsie and hope that the success and interaction between the people who make the show and bronies continues to multiply in the future.

 

 

Who is your favorite pony, and why? What are this pony’s best characteristics?

 

My favorite pony in the whole entire show is Rainbow Dash, who is one of the "Mane 6" characters. She is a very likeable mare. She is eager for any type of athletic action. She is very good at her species' unique ability, flying (she is a Pegasus). She is very, very loyal to her friends, and especially to the Princess of Equestria. She is very capable of being in charge of a very large an organized group.

 

 

Do other people in your (offline) life know that you like MLP? If so, how have they reacted?

 

The only person I know that knows that I'm a brony is the friend that got me interested in the show in the first place. I'm happy that there's at least one real-life person I can talk to the show about, though.

No, I've never been interested/involved in the franchise, except watch it grow among Hasbro's other best, such as Transfomers. I just never expected something like the fan breakout to happen to MLP!

It has changed my life, and the way I see the cartoon industry, as well as its future. The emotions that are triggered she nwatchign it, it's like an art, and it should take it's place among the greatest in the history of television. Being a Brony gave me the biggest feeling of "what I have been missing" since I became a Legend of Zelda fan during the summer of 2011.

 

 

Why do you think MLP:FIM has attracted a Brony fan base?

 

Because the show in general is perfect for all ages. Little children of course, as it is basically a show about ponies. Just about any show like that nowadays anyone like that would watch. Now the unusual fanbase, because of the aspects of the show. Amazing chacrater development, great storyline, jaw-dropping animation, everything that cartoons had in their glory days, in my opinion from the mid-to-late 90s to the mid 2000's. Not to mention that they sneak in things like inside jokes, adult humor, and pop culture references that the Brony fanbase can understand and further enjoy their experience.

I am a attracted to and follow video games and auto racing in a way similar to Friendship is Magic. It's like a magnet, things like Super Mario Bros. and NASCAR pull you in the instant you realize it's something you want to adore for the rest of your life. It's like love at first sight! In related words, I follow the Zelda franchsie with it's recurring aspects, amazing quality, and an ever-expansive story like I do with MLP.

How did you become a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic?

On March 4, 2011 I found a pony thread on 3DS Forums. It seemed out of place amongst all the gaming related threads and I was curious as to why a thread about a little girl's toy line would be so popular. (I didn't know about any of the TV shows at the time) I read some of the posts and saw that it was a cartoon and people were actually enjoying it, so I decided to give it shot. I watched the first episode on Youtube and instantly fell in love with it.

 

What do you enjoy most about the show?

Probably the songs. I LOVE the songs. I also love the personalities of the characters and how they're not just flat, generic characters. *cough*G3*cough*

Yes, I participate as much as I can. One of my favorite things to do is make vectors. I also like to paint custom figures. I've even tried my hoof at plushie making but I haven't made one good enough to sell yet. What I enjoy most about the fandom is the music. It still amazes me how much musical talent this fandom has.

 

Who is your favourite pony, and why? What are this pony’s best characteristics?

My favorite pony is Rarity. I love how her element is generosity, yet she can be the most selfish pony in the show sometimes. I also love how she can be such a drama queen. The main reason she's my favorite though, is probably because I can identify with her more than any other pony. We're both generous yet selfish sometimes, both like cleanliness, and we both pay close attention to details. Her best characteristics, in my opinion, are her generosity, fashion sense, cleanliness, and attention to detail.

Yup. Everyone who knows me knows about my obsession love for ponies. So far the reactions have either been passive or curious. Fortunately, I've never received any negative reactions.

Yes. I draw ponies, make vectors, paint custom figures, buy merch, (fan-made and official) listen to music, look at art, etc. I basically absorb everything the fandom creates.

Not really. I try to live by "Love and Tolerance" so if anything, that has made me a better person in some ways. As far as relationships, MLP hasn't affected them in any way. I'm still seen as the same person, except I'm strangely obsessed with miniature equines.

When they created the show, they designed it to appeal to not just children, but their parents too. I think this universal appeal had the unintentional effect of attracting all kinds of people outside of the target demographic. Why the "brony" fandom consists of mostly males, I'm not sure. I think maybe a part of it is the irony of liking something that's intended for basically the oposite demographic and it could have something to do with the "geeky" or "nerdy" nature of being in a fandom.

How did you become a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic?

I had seen a lot of pony related material floating a site I visit a lot(Funnyjunk). After learning about bronies I was a bit confused as to why grown men would watch My Little Pony. One day I decided I would show myself just how much of a "man" I was by watching an episode of MLP: FiM. I was confident in my masculinity that there was no way I would like a show for "little girls". After watching one episode I realized that it was a decent show and that I kind of liked it. I watched more episodes soon after realized I was in love with the series. I had always simply liked shows and never was really a fan of anything. To feel so strongly drawn in by the show was a strange new feeling for me. I have been a brony for about 2 months now.

 

What do you enjoy most about the show?

It's hard to pick just one thing. Probably the characters. They are very relate-able and they have real personalities that could be found in the real world unlike most over exaggerated personalities in cartoons.

Yes I do. I like that the fandom(in general) value qualities from the show such as friendship, kindness, and tolerance. Even if someone is not a brony the community is a very welcoming place where people will try their best to help and not judge others.

One does not simply pick a favorite pony. I relate to Twilight Sparkle the most. I think her best characteristics are her intelligence, rationality, and willingness to learn and help her friends.

My mother is my only family member that knows and a few family friends. My mother seemed a bit caught off guard when she found out I was the one recording MLP on our DVR, but she was generally accepting of the fact even if she doesn't understand it. The others' reactions were more or less, "That's strange but whatever."

The forums here at MLPForums. I have started writing a fanfic on fimfiction.net. I watch fan made videos on youtube. I also discuss ponies whenever I get the chance.

I haven't really gotten out around people for awhile. In retrospect, I realize I haven't always been a very good friend. Pretty much I would just go through the motins so to speak. With those who are close to me I have been trying to incorporate a more caring and friendly into our relationships.

 

Why do you think MLP:FIM has attracted a Brony fan base?

If you make something well enough, you will attract unexpected audiences. I think that is the case with MLP: FiM. Once people start watching the show because it is well made, I believe they see the values and morals the show displays and become even more attracted to it.

How did you become a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic?

On another forum, I saw avatars and signatures related to the show from members who were fans. I learned about the popularity of this show from how it had impacted the forum and divided many people into bronies and anti-bronies. I thought it was neat that a My Little Pony cartoon would attract so many adults, so I wanted to give it a shot, but I had to get high speed internet in order to watch the episodes. Until then, I jokingly mocked it on that forum until I got faster internet. I was able to watch the first four episodes on YouTube, but Hasbro blocked many of the episodes, preventing me from seeing any more until I downloaded them from somewhere else. Throughout a couple weeks, I watched the first season, appreciating the show's interesting and amusing characters, and its overall cheerfulness.

 

What do you enjoy most about the show?

How it has broken the mold with what I used to think that I would like. The show is presented well, and has a brilliant charm to it.

Yes. I make fanart, though I seldom show it due to the fact that I have a problem with finishing my art.

Throughout season one, I liked Pinkie Pie the most for her hilarity and effervescence, though she's less like how she was in the second season. As for the second season, I have no idea who my favorite character is. Maybe Discord? I've had an appreciation for Scootaloo.

I've flaunted my love for the show more than I would like, partly because a person who I know joked about ponies constantly. I've drawn Vinyl Scratch in public, and then that drawing became a screen print, so a few other people had me screen print the design onto shirts that they had, even if they had never seen the show. I have two fan pony shirts, one of which I'm wearing now. 99% of people are completely alright with it. I always mention the huge fandom when I tell someone about the show.

Why do you think MLP:FIM has attracted a Brony fan base?

The show's popularity, in my opinion, deals partly with the irony. Most of us would have never thought that a My Little Pony cartoon would have such appeal because of what My Little Pony was originally—a reoccurring series of cartoons that only girls with little to no taste in good cartoons could like, and a line of girls' toys. While the toys are still for kids, and I will never get them, some bronies and pegasisters try to buy toys that are most accurate to the latest iteration of the cartoon series, which is fine. Friendship is Magic is a show that was written and presented well, featuring a strangely appealing vibe in every episode. It's difficult for me to explain this vibe. All (well, most) of the characters live together peacefully, and tend to not let differences get in the way between each other, which is how people in the real world should act. Maybe I'm thinking too seriously about this cartoon, but that's one of the thoughts that I've accumulated over time. Keep in mind that the appeal of the show deals mostly with how it is presented, and how it's like those good cartoons that we used to watch as children. The irony is only a fraction of the reason for our fandom, I think.

I heard there were adults who liked the show. I figured, if the show was attracting such a large adult audience, it must be a good show. Also, I was also a fan of The Powerpuff Girls cartoon, and I found out the same person did both shows. I found a few episodes on YouTube and watched them and decided it IS a good show.

Good writing and interesting, charming characters. I can't stand cartoons with bad writing and bland characters.
