Zero from the Megaman series. I love him as a character

 

But I hate how much of a hard-on Keiji Inafune had for him, to the point where he hijacked the series from a character fans already loved just after his first bloody game, and still wound up getting his own franchise regardless

 

The only games after X1 that actually felt like it was still about X was Command Mission and Maverick Hunter X, a spin-off and a remake for fuck's sake

I used to love Master Xehanort from Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep the same way.

 

Until they decided to just flat-out make him the Disney version of Sosuke Aizen by the time Dream Drop Distance rolled around.

 

And now I like him even less, as Leonard Nimoy is no longer with us to portray his voice.

On the one hand, Trevor Philips from GTA V gets away with some pretty nasty s***, sometimes on innocent bystanders.

 

But on the other hand, he's merely psychotic instead of outright sociopathic, still a better man than pretty much any of the main villains from Ending C, and still capable of empathy for certain people.

Natsuru Senou, from the anime Kampfer. 

He's a guy that gets a magic bracelet from a talking stuffed animal and is thrown into a war between two sides of superpowered school girls...

 

By becoming one himself. 

 

 

He's so frustratingly dense & bland in the show. The surrounding cast seems to have more personality while he/she just gets dragged around reacting to it all. Never seems to have a stand alone defining moment. 

 

But damn does she look fine.

Works: A Song of Ice and Fire.  On the one hand, several of the characters were increasingly complex and saw development throughout the series.  On the other hand, most of them died the moment you started to give a damn.  Which then made not giving a damn an attractive alternative.

 

Which, in and of itself, is pretty self-defeating for any creative work.

 

On the one hand, George's series successfully married believable political intrigue to what was essentially high fantasy.  On the other hand, the political intrigue aspect did, at times, so thoroughly saturate and overwhelmingly dictate the story that everyone started to look like pieces on a chessboard.  Pieces manipulated by a more and more sadistic player...  Who worked both sides of the board in an oftentimes contrived manner.

 

On the one hand, the books are long; giving a prospective reader plenty to sink their teeth into.  On the other hand, the books are long; you're stuck, at length, with a damned brick that may well be mostly filler between the actually juicy bits.

For me it's Ciel Phantomhive from Black Butler. I like him, but he can be kind of a jerk. I honestly hated him at the end of Book of Circus.
