What is Luna's next step on emotional development?

Rewatching "Do Princesses dream of magic sheep?", we learn that Luna created the Tantubus to torment herself, because she couldn't forgive herself for the NMM incident, but the Tantubus began feeding off her guilt and became self-aware, threatening to wreak havok in the waking world.

So what's Luna's next step of development, now that the mane 6 convinced her to finally forgive herself from her past actions?

Personally, I hope she can create something positive for ponies, beyond assisting them in their dreams. Something lasting, that leaves a positive view of her, unlike Nightmare Night.

I would love, love, LOVE If Sunbutt persuaded Luna to open a school of her own (perhaps nestled in the Horsehead nebula that Twi mentions monitoring, in "It's about time"), to all those who appreciate the night, what it has to offer, and learn the lunar magic, or whatever (whatever Sunbutt's exclusive school for unicorns only can't teach), or created some sort of Neverland (Nebuland?) for herself, and ponies to live in whatever their mind conjures to make them happy all the time.

But what do you guys hope to see?

One idea I've had is Luna helping Celestia in one of her dreams. A nightmare perhaps were Celestia fears she's becoming obsolete in Equestria and no longer needed or wanted. After having ruled Equestria for so long and now having so many other princesses by her side she subconsciously feels threatened in some sense and afraid of losing them like she did Luna a thousand years ago. Luna helps assure her that this is not the case and that she's here to stay.

Something cheesy like that.:adorkable:

I always thought that episode came too late in the series. In my opinion, from that, it would've been perfect for me if Luna started helping ponies with that power of hers, like she did to the CMC.

Now I'd like to see some reason as to why it's important for Luna to do this and finally deal with some big threat that isn't of her making. Maybe Luna reached the point where it makes sense for her to be worfed too so people can see that she's ready to be replaced by the next in line.

For dumb, self-important fics about mythology, ponies and fascist griffons that can't figure friendship out.

And I'm just getting started.

As much as I love Luna (best pony, best princess etc.) I think her story has largely been told, we've seen her return from her banishment and reconcile with her sister.  We've seen her in 'Luna Eclipsed' struggle to fit into modern Equestria but then accept her role, and eventually embrace her role in the arc of episodes where she assists the CMC with their troubling dreams.  Most recently, in 'DPDoMS' we saw her finally letting go of the burden of her guilt and finding her peace.

I'd still hope to see more of Luna, but maybe in the context of an episode focusing more on her relationship with Celestia.  Celestia is the second best princess, and I think she's well overdue her own episode, I just fear they may have left it too late to do her justice like they did for Luna.

An episode about her and Celestia's relationship. To me DPDOMS's biggest sin was deliberately leaving Celestia out of the episode

There's still something they can do with her. When it comes to struggling with the ghosts of your past, when you overcome one aspect of it, another pops up. It's like peeling apart an onion layer by layer unless you get closer to the core of it.

Here's an idea. While her guilt may be solved, her fear may yet remain. Fear of what, you may ask? Fear of NMM repeating again. In all of the episodes showed her be herself, you can tell that she has a passionate character. When she's alone, time and again she might ask herself "what went wrong?". She may not be NMM and she does understand that, but the real question is "how did she allow herself to be corrupted?" and "Can it happen again?". Her fear can stem from feeling vulnerable or susceptible to repeat the same mistakes, especially when putting the stakes and the consequences into perspective. After the Tantibus happened, she'll want to be more wary about how she decides to keep herself in check. That whole affair could actually have made her fears worse as she put all of Equestria in danger for not keeping her creation under control while all she wanted to do was keep herself in check. Is she really nothing more than an incompetent fool where everyone including herself is better off not having any power? That'd be a very uncomfortable question to ask herself. All said, perhaps she really should be afraid of being a danger to every pony in Equestria.

This leads to the actual lesson. When terrible mistakes are made, it can make us afraid of repeating them in any way, shape or form. Thinking about it, this fear very well came to life with the Tantibus as she, by her own doing even if unwittingly, put all of Equestria in danger. That would be one reason for her to believe that she truly is vulnerable or susceptible to creating such big messes. Paradoxically, by accepting that she will always be vulnerable to making mistakes, not only will it get her to stop going to extreme lengths to keep herself in check, it will also dispel these fears altogether. To make herself invulnerable to making any kind of mistake is asking for perfection. Instead of trying to be perfect, even if that's in a very specific area, she must instead get to know herself and be satisfied with herself for just being more prepared than she ever was to not repeat the same mistakes -- not totally immune, just better prepared. That's all there needs to be to it.

Yeah, that sounds pretty hefty, doesn't it?

I'd like her to see her in everyday life helping other ponies who are in certain predicaments. I think that would provide a lot of laughs, but also just see Luna is also a plus.

Luna's story from the 'Pony Tales' comic series (also the micro-series) could be adapted to make a great episode.  If you haven't read it, she gets fed up with fighting off monsters in the night and for a change of pace she convinces Celestia to let her take over her duties for a day, and finds the bureaucracy of the day to day running to Equestria is not as easy as she expected.

It won't happen of course, but it would have been funny.

There is nothing. She obviously overcame her ghosts in a minute. It was literally like this:

Luna: "I am sad."

Twilight: "No you're not"

Luna: "You're right"

Twilight was able to cure Luna in a minute, which usually takes hundreds of hours of therapy. And that's why this episode was bad as it was.

Not to mention it was throwing a bone to those guys in the fandom, that like to romanticize depression.
