So while I wait for my flashdrive to finish a picture, I'd thought I'd get some practice in and vector an out of character drawing of my OC. After somewhat finishing it, I thought I could use this as practice to shade too, so that's what I've begun to do. It's not perfect, but any practice is good practice.

I'd say you've done a good job here! The head shape is a little different from usual, and the chest area is sorta bulging, but you still did a pretty good job with the overall look and feel.

I also think you should maybe make the bow stroke lines a little thicker.

The shape of the head, I attribute to style, but is the chest also part of your style? I can see something like that giving the character a false bust. Now, for the bow lines, they are thinner, and due to that, more attention is brought to them, but it doesn't really take away from the picture.

Other than that, very well done. <3 I'm totes jealous of your skill. : P

It's a great character.

It would be interesting to get some line variation on it, something to break the long static lines on the legs and flank.

Getting some shading on the character will also bring it out and really give it that something extra :)

Haha, so I finished the piece as a shading practice, but that was before I realized my notifications were turned off. So I guess I should probably respond to the very helpful critiques. :)

The finished piece is right over here. https://mlpforums.com/topic/149369-pristines-maybe-gala-dress-thing/#entry4436099

I've always had trouble with the head, it's something I need to practice on. The chest, after a while, I've begun to notice too. My idea with the bow strokes was to make accessory lines thinner, but I've been noticing it hasn't been getting a real positive look on it. I'll keep this in mind for next time, thank you.

It'd be nice if I could excuse the shape of the head for style, but it wasn't what I was going for. I may leave my future heads like that if people like it though. The bust was not meant to be like that, but I may say I was in a bit of a rush to finish this. Any artist knows that rushing art isn't good though. I'm glad you liked the thin bow lines, but they don't seem to be much of a favorite among many people, sorry to say. I'm glad you liked them though. :)

It makes me feel special to have people jealous of my skills, though honestly, I've still got a lot to improve on. :P

I'd say her chest could use a little more slope.

I do like the dress and bows!

Haha, yes, the chest definitely could. You are right about that.

I'm glad you like the dress and bows too! Makes me happy people like the piece.

Thank you! I'm glad you like her.

May I ask what you mean by line variation? I'm not very knowledgeable about most art terms.

Of course, this isn't the finished piece. I'm liking your critique, may I ask you critique my finished piece too? I would love your imput! Thank you again.

Line variation is adding different width to a single like, like these examples below:

It kind of makes an illustration look less "flat", if that makes sense.

I would love to see the final post! Keep me updated and I would be more than happy to offer more advice :)

Ah so you meant the stroke width. Thank you! I will definitely try out different widths with my future pieces.

My finished piece is not much different, but you can see it here. https://mlpforums.com/topic/149369-pristines-maybe-gala-dress-thing/#entry4436099
