gaming Activision PR Responds to Negative Criticism for Infinite Warfare

Their PR response sounds like a cop out. I mean someone I recall DID point out a GOOD thing they said: is that despite negative feedback they are willing to take new risks even if people don't like them. People should be more frightened if they decide to not take risks.

That's exactly what I would say.

It's a no-brainer for business of all sizes to try out something new that would deviate from the norm.

And it's usually that either the risks will be worth it at the end, or they may not be.

Only time will tell.

He's comparing this to Black Ops 2 as if it was the same situation. Black Ops 2 was just a change in setting.

Now here's my question: Can you still buy Infinite Warfare standalone for normal game price or do you have to pay the $80 to play either? If the latter than this is a very bad practice.

It's understandable they don't want the remake of Modern Warfare to overshadow their new game's sales though.

Even if it doesn't overshadow it the remake would inevitably take sales away from the new one.

Well... It is a multiplayer map pack. If you ever planned to use those maps, you had to log in anyway.

I know, but I find it silly that it's ripped out of the main game on release.

It's just because I'm an old-school PC gamer that expects a released game to have all the content from the first day. Still difficult for me to abolish the philosophy and I think it will never happen.

And this is also the reason why I've become even more skeptical about DLC and concerning trends in modern gaming.

Which is part of the reason why I'm pretty much done with modern gaming at least when we talk about the AAA material. Video games are no longer treated as a finished product. No its a "service" you subscribe to and invest into in order to string them along with your thinly spread content. Since this is the case they don't care about releasing products that have anything to them or are even functioning properly. Its this mentality where games like street fighter can be released with such a lackluster "campaign" that even a literal baby could beat it.

And this is an issue with gaming in general. Unfortunately it's a battle we've already lost. We have an entire new generation of gamers who have grown up on this stuff from the 360/PS3 era that now consider this "normal". So normal that you can't inspire them to give a damn because they just won't. They've been taught that this is how it should be and we are just old men trying to convince them to listen to crazy talk about a time when a game was released in a completed state with no pre-order incentives or DLC.

I think the fact so many people keep talking about this game gives it its popularity. If we all just forgot about COD it would perhaps actually change for the better or just move onto something else other than COD. I enjoyed the good ol days of COD, back in WW2 and just on the start of Modern Warfare, it was so much more than the mind numbing amounts we're exposed to today. Sure, it's nice to have the game kept refreshed from time to time, but having the same game, year in and year out pretty much repackaged and re-marketed is getting silly. COD is the FiFA of Shooter games.

To be honest, I am not even sure where the hype comes from anymore. The series is clearly on the decline and the quality has been dropping considerably over the years, Black Ops 2 was basically the peak and it has been downhill since. It makes me wonder where the hype comes from though since the series is so tired and milked to death already. With a new $60 game every year that is most often incomplete only to be complete with the $50 season pass, I don't know how anyone could have hype for this franchise now, except for the most casual fans.

They attract a lot of people not in the gaming scene, a lot of people who just go out and drink/party. People aren't all that big in the gaming world, basically attracting new gamers to gaming entirely. I think that's where the bulk of there numbers comes from, attracting non-gamers to gaming with there overly hyped trailers and easy to get into game mechanics.

The other issue is well... PC gamers... Sorry guys

Privileges have been slowly disappearing game after game, for no good reason. You'd have more fun using mods on first games and keeping the money. Who knows ? The price may be divided by two.. 5 years later ?

The game looks pretty sucky, but I don't think it'll be as bad as everybody thinks.

Personally, I want another modern day CoD.

Yeah, no wonder why I'm feeling old when it comes to modern gaming. It's almost like my time in the video gaming world is coming to an end and getting replaced by little kids who suck up everything that they throw at them.

And WTF a baby could even finish a campaign? :umad:

  • 5 years later...

I never played Infinite Warfare because that's where I lost interest in COD. My personal tastes just changed, that's all.

Anyways, on the topic at hand, Activision's PR is just trying to get people to buy the game - simple as that - and make the game and Activision look good in the process.

That's just the tip of the iceberg, because Activision's CEO (or Activision-Blizzard, it doesn't matter) Bobby Kotick has been found at huge fault for mass, workplace violations and discrimination, especially targeting towards women with having less pay than men. COD as a whole has long overstayed its welcome regardless of its general popularity. Its become more of the same, with the same, rehashed storyline and weapons, along with players who constantly brag about their K/D ratios way too many times. I stopped caring for COD after Black Ops II and Activision's constant obsession over a once-popular shooter will eventually lead to their eventual downfall. Not only are they milking their own franchise dry, but they're pretty much under fire in many ways. There's a thing called "let sleeping dogs lie" yet its just being milked to no end.

  • 2 weeks later...

The last Call of Duty game I really loved was World at War. I haven’t play any of the series for years and I really don’t feel I’ve missed much.
