There's a pony family we still know absolutely nothing about

The SHIMMER family. Somewhere in Equestria, they exist (and whether they're mising their daughter or not is a topic for another day)

 

But who could this family of ponies be?

 

Starting with potential siblings, I suspect the Shimmer family's brother could be.....

 

Sunburst

 

Obviously the coat color and redorange spectrum hair from their parents would be the dominant gene. Since neither parent have aqua eyes, it could likely be a gene inherited from the grandparents

 

I'd imagine they would also have a third, youngest sibling- Star Dreams. Same eye color (possibly from grandparents), but vastly different coat and mane than either of her possible siblings of parens. Again-could be traits from the grandparents.

 

For the Shimmer family's parents, obviously, Sunburst's parents, who we have alreadg (albeit briefly) seen

 

And maybe Starry Eyed (comics) is the brother of the dad (uncle)(see above)

And (unnamed pony- comics) the sister (aunt), to also share similar names/color schemes with the children

 

Thoughts on who could be the Shimmer family?

Very interesting thought there, with Sunburst being her possible sibling. They do have the same-ish color scheme, names and it would make sense, considering how the family seem to be much into magic, etc. So yep, that could probably be a possibility. A small one as it is now, but it would be interesting...

Her parents should be wondering where Sunset went, to be honest. I'd be damn worried if my child went off to study and then suddenly vanished into another dimension to likely never return... What are the odds?

Even Star Dreams, if you choose to see her as another sibling (the sun is a STAR) and "dreams" could be passed on from grandparents, much like color genes possibly are.

As for the parents worrying about ShimShim....yeah, maybe. But she's polly the eldest kid (seejng as how she was shown to be older than Twi in the comics), so maybe they figure she's fine, off wherever, without need to get in touch with her

Besides I doubt we'll ever hear anything about Sunset Shimmer's mainly because she's in another universe and because she only shows up once a year

we get enough speculation on the pegasi families. Why pitch another topic ?

 

Just because SS is in another world doesn't mean we can't have hints dropped on her family

If staff make Sunburst her brother, he could drop a line implying that neither he nor his parents know where his sister is. Or that she once attended CSfGU. That could be a spark.

FiM has Flash in it, so Sunset had to have, at some point, originated and existed in Euestria. How could she, then, if no family to spawn her exists in Equestria?

Never said that. I said that Shimmer doesn't exist because hse has not been mentioned even once in FiM proper. Sure, apparently Flash Sentry exists, but he is a much less important character in EqG than Sunset and even he got a sort of background cameo in FiM. Shimmer hasn't been acknowledged in FiM. I honestly prefer that too, only because I am not fond of any connection between FiM and EqG.

Hey, I like it.  I like it a lot.  I personally don't want integration of EG into FIM.  I want EG to say B-canon, but I still like this theory.  It would make a lot of sense, really.

Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo's families would be a much bigger priority. There's still a lot unknown about them, and they're much more important characters to the show as a whole.

 

It would be interesting to know how Rainbow's family would have reacted to her becoming a Wonderbolt, or for them to possibly be portrayed as an estranged family. Scootaloo could be a chance to show an unconventional family situation, such as a foster or group home.

While I am still waiting to get any sort of information about Rainbow's family and Especially Scootaloo's family as 6 seasons in we really should know at least something about them by now.

But despite this I really like this headcanon.

I can actually see Sunburst being related to Sunset Shimmer.

Who knows, at least the theme naming matches. They could be cousins however . I wish for Sunny cameoing in FiM and see what's her family story is , OR, Sunny meets her family's human counterpart

For a while I used to think of Sunset Shimmer as an orphan, because it answers questions about her family and could flesh out her backstory a little. I've shifted recently to the idea that her parents were absent or neglectful, but if they are alive, I think they would be very, very worried about their daughter.

I would like to know about Starlight's family. I think if she was an orphan or from an abusive family her overreaction to Sunburst leaving would make more sense if he was her only "family" really.

 

Sunset and Sunburst being family would be fun really but I do not know if the show would go there. But it would be fun if they were siblings and then Sunburst and Starlight became a couple, Sunburst would be dating someone almost excatly like his sister lol.
