gaming Do you like that Zelda games turned from Medieval fantasy to generic fantasy?

I mean did you think back then when you had Super Nintendo or Nintendo 64 that Zelda games was usually ment to be medieval fantasy series that you kinda liked? Especially the gothic style in Ocarina of Time which i liked.

Tunic, tights, boots and a horse. Really fits that setting in my view. Do you think its good that it is varied or do you think it was a bad move?

Speaking of personal opinion i think the remade version of Ocarina of Time is too anime. I didn't get that same feeling when i played it in Nintendo 64, yeah sure i guess you could notice it somewhat on some eyes but it didn't shined out. I am either way against that style in games in some cases with exceptions like Ape Escape 1. But in general it doesn't fit like in this case to medieval culture, it just looks too silly, but i guess its a subjective statement which i just think is true to be honest!

Link looks younger in the 3DS version. To me the only thing that makes it "anime" is the eyes.

The rest of it just looks like the more modern Link character design.

The official art for the original N64 version had that anime-ish look to it too. With the 3DS remake, they just had the ability to match the artwork more closely.

That said, I don't really mind the anime look. In my opinion, it's preferable to the realistic look that so many other games try for.

The most recent trailers make out Breath of the Wild out to be pretty damned medieval. The Medieval period came after the fall of the Roman Empire and is seen as civilization reeling from the collapse of its center. In Breath of the Wild, everything is overgrown and Link has to rely on very basic survival skills with no big cities for food and shelter, at least not that we can see thus far. Remember last Zelda had a floating continent, flying on the backs of giant birds, time travel (again), and a spirit from Link's sword that spoke very much like a rudimentary digital artificial intelligence. So Breath of the Wild, from what we see, actually stepped things back, hewing closer to a more low tech medieval world. True Link has, essentially what seems like, a magic smart phone, but otherwise he's climbing trees, hunting for food, scavenging weapons mostly made of wood and bone, fishing, and otherwise relying on far more primitive tools and techniques than ever before.

Hell, one could make the argument that Link and the series have actually stepped further back into a kind of Iron or even Bronze age.
