@Frostgage Are you going to watch the FIFA World Cup Finals, this Sunday?

This has been one of my absolute favorite tournaments ever but I may pass. As it happens I'm really not a fan of the U.S. team, whom I fully expect to win. It's not something I need to see lol

Like I asked to ThetaZe I'm gonna paint a picture for you, imagine you are in your last moment, you die and blackout, then wake up sitting in a chair and there's twilight in front of you with her horn glowing, you body feels weird and then you realize you are a pony (Your OC if you have one) then Twilight go in front of you and ask you "Did it worked?" "Did my Ilucion spell worked?" and somehow feel everything made sense all this time... What would be your reaction? What would you do next?

Oh wow it's hard to say lol. hmm... I would be pretty freaked out but tell her that it most certainly did. Next I would probably ask why she inserted herself into the illusion as the star of a tv show haha

perhaps as a Guide? I dunno, it may work for a fiction xD

I have a tricky one *shows two pills*

You take the blue pill and you will get the oportunitu to be whoever you wanna be, and conquer all adventures you propose but you will never be recognized by other people and those adventures will only have relevance to you.

You take the red pill and you will have a very hard life, you may eventually conquer all your goals and be recognized in a long term but you would have to struggle a lot and suffer all kinds of problems, and is a long way to finally reach your perfect life

What option would you choose?

Definitely the red pill. I'm not a strong enough person to take pride in my accomplishments without recognition - imo our lives are made meaningful by how they impact those of others

It's cliche but the content of a gift really is insignificant. It's all about the context

What's your favorite chemical?

What's your favorite particle?

What's your favorite single thing out of all things possible to describe or name, whether tangible or intangible; existent or nonexistent; objective or subjective; known or mysterious; conceivable or inconceivable?

What's your favorite snack?

1. Nitrogen is pretty cool (does it count as a chemical? I sure hope so)
2. um. the cannon :proud:
3. Love (i wonder which category it falls into?)
4. It has to be cereal. But I don't think a bad snack exists (although some of the concoctions my twisted mind has come up with are dangerously close)

@Frostgage It must have a been a very wild ride going from a hopeful 2003 MLB season, to the “Curse of the Boonebino” in Game 7 of the ALCS, to the 0-3 games comeback the following season, to the first WS championship since 1918.

Can you tell me about your experience of all that as a Red Sox fan?

I'll admit I was a little young to remember the whole thing too vividly; but even so, the wild swings of emotions were just unbelievable. 2003 looked like certain victory yet ended in defeat, and of course 2004 was the exact opposite. It was such a magical season ;-; I was so happy for Tim Wakefield redeeming himself

Yes, Wakefield’s Game 5 relief must of been an emotional moment for you and all your fan friends!

Did you also jump from your seat when Bill Mueller singled to bat in Dave Roberts?

The question you asked actually makes me really happy. Everyone remembers the Dave Roberts steal, but most forget that Mueller still had to get a hit off of the best relief pitcher of all time with the season on the line <3

Oh right, my answer: yes

One of those debatable things - I guess technically nitrogen is an atom, while n₂ is a chemical.

Given the nature of nitrogen (the more of them you have, the more kapow the chemical has if it decides it wishes to release them) I guess one atom at a time would be safter though.

Objection sir the IUPAC definition of chemical substance explicitly includes single-atom substances so literally nobody in the world is qualified to overrule any part of my assertion

Romantic love, although I think my idea of it would look awfully similar to friendship love. so maybe some hybrid of the two?

I read a great book once about the different types of love and it talked about how passionate romantic love was never meant to last long because it would burn us out if it lasted longer than a few months. Familial love in the most basic sense has the same issue - you grow up and move out and become less and less of a 'family' in the sense of being a single integrated household working on parent-child dynamics.

The only long-term-stable type of human love is friendship love, from chasing a common cause. Romance and familial loves aren't based on a common cause because each person focusses on the other person - in romance you stare into each other's eyes, with parent-child dynamics the parent looks down at the child and the child looks back up at them, but with friendship you're both looking at a definite something separate from both of you, which is why it's so easy to make friends over common interests. There's also familiarity love (where nostalgia comes from), which is the sort of love you have for people who you've spent years around to the point where you can't imagine things without them, but this is a result of a long-term-sustained relationship rather than any sort of effective cause.

Significant-other relationships hence usually start with romantic love and end up with familiarity love, with friendship love keeping things stable and sticking together the whole time. Therefore your intuition is absolutely correct my good sir you most certainly want a hybrid. :proud:

Also I find it interesting that the only way for really stable human relationships to form is through a thing that has nothing to do with the relationship or the people except that both of the people share a relationship to the thing

This made me think of another question regarding the love languages - are people more likely to use the languages that they value most in order to show affection to others? If I was a psychology major (i'm a minor as it happens) that would actually be a solid topic for an experiment

Actually not in my experience - I default to Gifts to actively express affection and my uncle is Quality Time and my aunty is Physical Touch but I know he often expresses love in the form of Acts of Service. Often if people don't respond to your attempts to show affection it's because it's not one of their love languages and they don't recognise it as affection, but on the flip side it's great to keep an eye out for someone using a love language different to yours to express affection so you can return it in a love language you know they'll recognise (and maybe giving them a nice heads-up so they know how to make you feel Extra Loved). Usually it's Gifts and Service and sometimes Words that are used to express affection because those are the active ones that make you feel like you're Doing something and going out of your way to make them feel loved

It's weird though because you can get two people giving gifts both feeling like they're making the other person feel loved and neither of them actually feeling loved because Gifts isn't their love language so they're both doing the same thing but neither of them feel like the other person is reciprocating their love
