"Yeah! Yeah... I make some stuff." She entered the room with careful quiet hoof-falls and sat pertly upon the seat. Nix nervously fussed with a lock of her mane that had fallen over her shoulder.

She felt a strong impulse to offer the stallion tea. Whenever she had company she always fixed her guests tea as soon as they arrived.
But for the first time in years she was the guest, rather than the host for the lonely vagabond that happened to wander near her abode.

 

(It came to my attention that pert has many very varied meanings, and I mean the one that is shortened from apert, meaning open/honest/frank)

Rhetoric continued to smile "I'm sorry I don't have much to offer expect water, but pardon me while I get down to business. You see, I want our progress to go smoothly and sadly, I fear that already I've scouted out by royal guards. I had hoped that they would have simply shown themselves, arrested me even, but I have to assume I'm being spied on. So is there somehow you can prove your an inventor?" 

 

He heaved a sigh "I'm terribly sorry, this sort of interrogation thing is not what I wanted to do"

 The three ponies, especially the two out of towners had drawn the attention of the town. For the most part, many ponies simply wanted to ignore them and get on with there business. One however trotted up, an accordion strapped around his chest "Evenin' sorry to interrupt but I was hoping Witty here could do me a quick favor" 

It was the herb salesmen, probably the most social of the bunch of townsfolk around

"​Well..." she began "I'll see if I can find something in my bag..."

​Nix rummaged through what seemed like more than should be able to fit in a messenger bag. As she delved through her bag, Nix removed anything minutely relevant.

​"Lets see... An old bill of sale for some ingots, tweezers..." she pulled out a crumpled page and unfolded it...   

"Oh, that's horrible you don't wan to see that."    She crumpled it again and tossed it behind her, obviously disappointed.

"Uh... broken watch, Oh! This heavy as hell cog I found when I was- ...Yeah! I found it"    heh

"Now that I think about it I think that's probably why the watch is broken..."    She plunked it on the table with a soft -thunk-
"There! Everyone seems to think this is the sort of things inventors care about. Whatta' ya' say, am I honest?" T_T

 

"If you say no ill keep going..." Her voice low. The last statement sounding more like a threat than a warning

Rhetoric pawed at the various objects "well gez what more can I say" he laughed "If your that dedicated to lying to me, then you have to much time waste. Yeah I believe you" he smiled at her and leaned back

 

"so, I take your your serious about this? Like willing to commit the next couple months of your time to this?"  he was serious again, awaiting her response

"Yes." A small smirk tugged at the corners of her mouth "And to be honest, I haven't got much else to do other wise. ...Other than tinker."

she paused

"Among other things, I would like for my inventions to see the light of day." she sobered as well.

 

"You know... for somepony to use them finally."
​​She sat back a bit and resumed fiddling with her mane over her shoulder idly.

"Good, good, its good to have some personal goals in an endeavor such as this. In that case, while you are free to stay here and get to know your possible cohorts, the next meeting is going to be a bit more private... so the destination I'm about tell you, please do not give out freely." he smiled "Besides its a rather personal place for me and I don't take every pony there"

"Outside of this city, about a half a days journey, just follow the road, there is an old farm house. Nightshade Acres. I'll be waiting there to discuss more detailed plains."  

 

"If this sits well for you and you don't have any more questions your free to go and send up the next pony, thank you Nix, it was a pleasure to talk to you even if briefly"

Her expression was pulled into a subtle smirk. Or perhaps her smile was a bit crooked in general?

 

"Indeed, it was a pleasure. I hope we get the chance to speak like this again." She pushed her belongings from the desk, and into her satchel with a quiet -oof!- of exertion as the cog dropped in suddenly.

 

"When exactly should I meet you there Mr. Rash?"  she held back a small chuckle

You wouldn't want me waiting there until the meeting, would you?"

Nix grinned a crooked grin and trotted downstairs to the table where the conspirators were gathered.

 

She stood there a short moment before saying "Well? The next of you go on up if ya dare"

​She turned on her hoof and headed for the door, pulling her hat over her ears.

Ice could barely stand the idea of continuously sitting in this chair and waiting for no reason. He decided to go ahead and take his turn upstairs. "Well, I guess I'm up next then. What's up? What'll we be talking about?" He trotted over to Rhetoric after putting his book away.

Before she could answer Copper, a pony had had arrived and mentioned he needed her. She gave Copper a polite smile, hoping to silently convey 'One moment, please,' before turning her attention to the pony that had just arrived.

 

It was a familiar face to Witty, definitely one she had seem around town, but the pony's name evaded her. "Oh, don't worry, you're not interrupting much at all. These two just had a few questions about the town." She waved her hoof in the air, dismissing her own thought. "I'm rambling, anyway, what's this favor you mentioned?"

Rhetoric looked at the pony known as Ice Blizzard, the young stallion whom he found it odd that he was even here "Well you see , I want our progress to go smoothly, so your a young guy Mr Blizzard, what is it you do?"  it was a straight forward question "And if I may inquire where did you see my flier, or rather what really brought you here?"

The Pony smiled "Oh nothin much, just me accordion has got a stinkin' stuck button again" he guffawed "but what's this now about asking question of the town, we ain't to good with quizzes here don't cha know?"  his loud laughter was heard again, probably because he couldn't get enough of himself

Ice nodded, and proceeded to answer him. "Well I'm an adventurer, so that means I travel a lot most of the time. As well as the fact that I'm a sculptor part time, so yeah. And what brought me here? Well that simply boils down to raising suspicions. Don't really know who to trust, ya know."

'Cosmic Cloud' continued to sit there and wait, watching as Nix made her departure after meeting with Rhetoric and Ice Blizzard going next.

 

Part of her wondered if anypony had caught on to her disguise yet. Realised that something was up. That this mare wasn't all she seemed to be.

 

She continued to quietly tap her hooves on the tabletop in mock nervousness, staring down at them and avoiding eye contact.

"suspicious? By those words I would say you favor the Princesses? Which is fine by the by, they have done a great many good thing for this land, I'm just curious. Of course by the very nature of what I plan on doing, its well anti-establishment, which happen to be the Princesses, and while I would like to remain in contact with you, am a little hesitant to share everything with you."

Ice chuckled. "Quit assuming man. I never said I favored the princesses or anyone. I'm just here to see what's going on. My suspicion actually stems from wondering whether or not any of this will actually work. Call it...pessimistic intuition or something, I dunno. But I'm not really for or against any side here."

As the pony laughed, Witty gave a short sigh, smiled, and looked back at Copper and War. The expression on her face said, 'See what I mean?' With a small chuckle, Witty replied, "Well, I'd be happy to look into that broken accordion, but..." Witty paused in the middle of her sentence and thought for a moment, then began speaking again. "Actually, I know you guys aren't the best with visitors, but would you mind helping these two while I head back to my house."

 

She seemed almost embarrassed as she admitted, "The only tool I have on me is my wrench, and after all the repairs I've done in the past, I'm afraid that old piece will fall apart without my proper array."

Upon hearing mention of home, Witty's 'parasprite' flew directly beside her.

Ice shrugged, taking note of the guy's quick style to jump the shark on certain topics. "Well, we'll see how it goes. Personally I'm willing to see how far others are gonna go to try and make a difference. As long as everything is handled in a calm way, though."

Nix wandered back into the inn, biting her lip, blushing a bit, pulling her hat snuggly over her head

In her haste and excitement to get started on a meaningful project, Nix had sped out the door with attending that meeting in mind. XD

​As she approached the table of conspirators again she cleared her throat quietly "Just... getting out of this stuffy place, you know? The fresh air was nice..."

 

Nix sat beside the cloaked mare, tapping her hooves in much the same manner before breaking the silence between them.

"So! What do you do Clou... CloudsColusd" ​She mumbled through something reminiscent of the mystery mares name. "A job? Hobbies... anything?"

The pegasus jolted slightly at Nix's sudden appearance by her side. She had truly gotten spooked!

 

Some Paladin you are. Stay on your hooves.

 

"C-Cosmic Cloud," she murmured softly, darting her eyes between the mare and her hooves, "um... I like flying... and comic books... and stuff like that...?"

 

She felt a little truth woven in her disguise wouldn't hurt. After all, hardly anypony knew about her secret nerd life.

"Alright great, is there anyway I can get keep in touch with you? I'm not entirely sure where the next meeting is going to be, it won;t be here though, I don;t have the money for it" he chuckled a bit awkwardly  

 

"But like I said I would most certainly would like to keep in touch with you, it's good to see younger ponies take an interest in this sort of thing" he smiled, even if he didn't fully trust the young stallion he did want to keep in contact with him, that much was the truth

War remained silent letting Copper speak but before he could respond or comment on what Copper had said considering he was also curious, another local trotted over. He let the stallion make his inquiries and then the mare calling herself 'Gears' respond again.

 

War nodded at the red mare understanding her relationship with the locals. He took note of the strange insect's reaction to her words, maybe it was a pet or something, whatever it was it seemed intelligent to a degree.

 

"Greetings, I am War and this is Copper Strikes, we apologize for intruding on your homestead but we are not here without purpose or order. We have been scent to investigate some issue we were hoping a local could tell us about, all we know for sure is that it's magical in origin. Our goal is take care of it and then leave you ponies in peace, we need to make sure every pony is safe therefore I can assure you we do not wish to bother any pony with our presents."

Nix tapped her hooves together anxiously "I always fancied the covers of comic books... When I was younger we hardly saw them. I lived on a Podunk little farm"   "We never could afford them... And now that I might buy some being older and all, Weeellll.... I'd feel foolish..."

Nix shuffled her hooves, blushing.

Ice could tell very well that he couldn't be trusted entirely. Which was understandable considering how much younger he was in comparison to everyone else. Nevertheless, he had to try. "Just send me a letter to my house, ok? I'll be sure to write back when needed."
