Eggy0 103 August 3, 2016 #2 Share August 3, 2016 I personally haven't thought about a possible religion in Equestria. From what I gather from the show though, not counting the "Sweet Celestia" exclamations and such, I highly doubt ponies possess some sort of creed since I have yet to see at least one thing pertaining to it like a church or a religious talk. But then again, religion isn't something that's often talked about in kids' cartoons (it's rarely or never brought up if I'm not mistaken), so religion might exist in Equestria as an off-screen thing. If religion really is a thing in Equestria, then one theory of mine is that there's an equivalent to Heaven for righteous souls (and Hell for bad ones) where the deceased depart with the guidance of a great entity that may or may not be Celestia herself. Another, less likely theory of mine would be reincarnation; basically, ponies (or even any Equestrian creature) who pass are reborn as another living being later on so they can continue "living" on the planet and experiencing its beauty (and harshness). But other than these two theories I have, I got nothing
pnylvr 185 August 3, 2016 #3 Share August 3, 2016 Tree Hugger suggests the existence of some kind of belief in reincarnation with her comment about possibly meeting Discord "in another life", and in "Hearts and Hooves Day", the ponies pass a pony with a clerical collar, so there seems to be some sort of religion. There's also that spirit plane thing Twilight goes to to become an alicorn. Personally, I imagine reincarnation is a thing, with the ponies passing through that plane on their way to their next life. Just my headcanon.
Brony Number 42 10,075 August 3, 2016 #4 Share August 3, 2016 Celestia does not fill the role of a god. She is not a Creator, nor does she answer prayers, nor is she omnipotent, nor omniscient. Discord (think Q) has more powers than she does. The powers of Luna and Celestia don't seem to have a religious connotation. (Luna, get out of my dreams and into my car.) Treehuggers beliefs might be uncommon. The existence of funeral rights would not be surprising. I would guess they have spiritual beliefs, but we don't know if there is an actual after life. Can someone make a Grim Reaper pony? 1 This is my new signature.

twiia 1,843 August 3, 2016 #6 Share August 3, 2016 Maybe they believe in an afterlife, but so far it seems like religion is quite vague. Maybe ponies go to heaven/hell when they die, or it may be an uncommon belief. Or something else... When we die, our bodies become the grass, and other ponies eat the grass... 1 'Make me your Queen' Sig by Wheatley
Kyoshi Frost Wolf 41,907 August 3, 2016 #7 Share August 3, 2016 I am gonna go with reincarnation for the ponies. It seems like something that is plausible. Like, the mane 6 could be reincarnations of the Elements of Harmony.

Unlikeable Pony 2,699 August 4, 2016 #9 Share August 4, 2016 I prefer to think that ponies who die become stars in the sky. The "Bigger" the pony, as far as their presence in the universe and abilitywise, the more spectacular Celestial body they become: Heroes become constellations and Comets, regular old peasants become dim, twinkly stars.
Classic Play 232 August 4, 2016 #10 Share August 4, 2016 Well, I think it's already been stated that alicorns at least, are ageless. They cannot die due to age. Which means, yes, Twilight's going to have some extremely heart-wrenching days ahead of her (good thing that won't be for a long time). But, I'm going to assume they do as we do IRL. Mourn the loss for a few days or longer and move on. Since the show obviously won't show death (they have vaguely referenced it a couple times, I think), this likely will never be answered accurately. Unless, they actually do an episode of Granny Smith passing on. What happens to the ponies as they pass on, I want to think of it as a spiritual thing. Like the pony above me stated, they become a star in the sky. My OC(s): Clear Rider My Ask a Pony At some point, there will be a fic or more here "You can't be a comedian, unless you can laugh at yourself." - Me "Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened." - Dr Seuss.

I have a long and detailed headcanon about this but I don't feel like writing about it now. As for what actually happens when ponies pass, maybe they just reincarnate in a different body? What if Twilight is the reincarnated soul of Star Swirl The Bearded? That would be pretty awesome. 2 Signature by Kyoshi

As far as the elements, I've already come to the conclusion that the Mane Six as well as the two sisters had their fates decided long before time and that the tree had also existed long before time. Lol, the elements fitting the six and the trunk of the tree having the sisters' cutie marks, it's almost too obvious to look at it some other way. And there, I can indeed see reincarnation working for this world. 1 My OC(s): Clear Rider My Ask a Pony At some point, there will be a fic or more here "You can't be a comedian, unless you can laugh at yourself." - Me "Don't cry because it's over. I'd like to think that, but if that were true I would have expected the EOH to have been the mane six's cutie marks from the get go.
