Cain 24 May 5, 2012 Share May 5, 2012 I was just wondering, as the title suggests, if there would be explosives in the world of equestria? Not to be used as weapons, but for demolition of old houses that aren't needed anymore. Would they be classed as 'too dangerous' to fit into the FiM world? So in that case would demolition be carried out by doing what RD did in Lesson Zero, crashing into the supports of the building (and finishing it off with a sonic rainboom-esque 'explosion')? P.S I'm asking this because I'm thinking of a pony to RP with. RP Character: Cain

Starshine 16,335 May 5, 2012 Share May 5, 2012 They got this huge dam and a construction site in the Mare Do Well episode, it's a huge possibility they have a technology to blast things apart. Don't forget the mountain tunnels for the train, you can't use your hooves to dig stuff like that. But there's still this possibility that some of the Unicorns actually have an explosive cutie mark, so they kind of act as a substitute to explosives

Cain 24 May 5, 2012 Author Share May 5, 2012 The only explosive I know of is the Sonic Rainnuke: That is what I was referring to when I mentioned Rainbow Dash and Lesson Zero. Could this be replicated (on a smaller scale) by other pegasi? 2 RP Character: Cain

Cain 24 May 5, 2012 Author Share May 5, 2012 Only rainbow dash can do that, any other pegasi was too slow compared to her (except maybe Wonderbolts) Would you say, in a RP, it's feasible for a pegasi to be fast enough to replicate it? Starshine 16,335 May 5, 2012 Share May 5, 2012 Would you say, in a RP, it's feasible for a pegasi to be fast enough to replicate it? To replicate that kind of feat, your face and your everything must be strong enough to absorb the impact Rainbow Dash was a rather thick-headed mare, so she can walk out of it alive. You need a well built ponysona for that
Dauntless 5 May 5, 2012 Share May 5, 2012 (edited) In the Mare-Do-Well episode there was construction crane, and one could assume that demolition could be done by a wrecking ball instead of explosives. Edited May 5, 2012 by Dauntless
Nas 2,874 May 5, 2012 Share May 5, 2012 In all seriousness, there really is no need, or mention, of war in Equestria, let alone the whole world that the show takes place in. The Wonderbolts, besides for show and demonstration, are used in times of need like a martial/military call. They seem to be the only martial force in all of Equestria, so, based on everything I've said here, there doesn't seem to be a need or demand for explosive materials, or at least the ones used as weapons. Minor stuff, i.e. comic relief items, Sonic Rainnuke, etc., that's probably as far as they'll go, as this is still a kids show. My journey in the fandom started on April 5, 2012. Radiance64 7,059 May 5, 2012 Share May 5, 2012 I believe there were a lot of mini-explosions while the Changelings were attacking Canterlot in 'A Canterlot Wedding part 2,' but that could have been just for dramatic effect since they just came out of nowhere and didn't seem to affect anything... LowfatEnvelope 335 May 5, 2012 Share May 5, 2012 I would assume they have them, as (i think it was Rainbow Dash) mentioned bullets in an episode, which would imply that they have gun-powder. Unless of course they are propelled in some other way. ~L.F.E.~
Queen Cassie 3,058 May 5, 2012 Share May 5, 2012 Absolutely explosives, including high explosives comparable to modern demolitions explosives, exist in Equestria. It wouldn't make much sense if they didn't. How else would they have constructed that dam, for example? Material science in Equestria is more than advanced enough to prove the existence of high explosives technology, too. Plus, if nothing else, there is the party cannon. Explosives are used for many more purposes than just military. There are many engineering applications, construction applications, demolitions, etc etc...honestly I think the only reason Applejack contracted Rainbow Dash for destroying her barn was that she didn't have to pay Rainbow Dash, whereas she would have had to purchase the explosives. 6 Used to be known on here as Kyronea. Silverwisp the Bard 2,354 May 5, 2012 Share May 5, 2012 Considering that Pinkie has a party cannon, we can assume that Black powder is known, also Spike mentions explosions in "Pinkie Keen". If you want to rp a demolition pony, I'd suggest either: -a unicorn with a gift for statics and some telecinetic - unicorn with the ability to preciesly create minor explosions (probably from Celestias school for the gifted) -a pegasus thats part of a team using a weaker version of the technique used by the Wonderbolts to cut Spike's well spikes. I used to be a stranger 7,994 May 5, 2012 Share May 5, 2012 Demolition of buildings is carried out by implosions rather. Months go into planning demolition detonations to make buildings collapse in on themselves, to localize waste and damage. Mining uses coring charges however, which can be specifically designed to simply create powerful shockwaves, or push outwards in specific directions (out like a ring like those "Seismic charges" in Star Wars episode 2 for example.) Way back when, that was done either with TNT or Dynamite. (TNT is trinitrotoluene, a complex nitric salt, Dynamite is nitroglycerin in a solvent compound and wrapped with paper.)

Proailurus 214 May 5, 2012 Share May 5, 2012 About other pegasi being able to do the Sonic Rainboom, they would need have a rainbow-colored mane, enough guts to actually do it, the ability to actually achieve that speed, and be able to handle the air resistance. Anyway, I don't think they have explosives in Equestria =P Sorry about the temporary lack of signature, I have changed my name, so I need a new one.
