How can they make this appeal to a wider audience?

It's very apparent that this is not going to be a "Friendship is Magic" movie, but rather a movie that purposefully takes place in Equestria. How can they make this appeal to a wider audience and expand on the interest of MLP?

 

Yeah they could add some edge to it (*cough Tirel vs Twilight) but it can't just be that or it will lose the charm of MLP in the first place.

 

Personally I think they should heavily focus on the fantasy element but still provide a ton of humor. Great combination right there.

 

Something else that will increase the buzz is adding social commentary. Not on a Zootopia level where it couldn't be more obvious, but maybe something like The Lego Movie or Inside Out where it's more clever.
