Hi again guys. Good news for everyone. While several article pointed it, there wasn't an official confirmation from the crew of the Movie itself, and we had to take the news as rumor until we had official words on it (especially since these kind of articled trend to be misleading). So I asked Rebecca Dart on Twitter myself if this was true or not. Well...

It is! Meghan McCarthy and Rita Hsiao (writer from Toy Story 2 and Mulan). Wooohoo!

And there you have it. You official confirmation. That is all.

Truth being told, Joe Ballarini (the writer from Ice Age 4 you mentioned above) was originally supposed to be the writer, but I guess his writing exploits... were garbage, so Jayson and Meghan fired him, and hired a writing veteran like Rita Hsiao (and Meghan decided to help her with the writing as well). Well all of this is for the best.

Like I pointed a lot of times, I'm gonna quit MLP after this movie, and I really want quit it on an high note. The Movie itself IS an high point for the series, so for a production like this, they needed the best team they could have, and with Thiessen's direction, McCarthy's and Hsiao s writing exploits, Michel's experience of decades in animation and visual effects, Dart's leading for art direction and Ingram's talent with music, this Movie surely has the best...... I can't say the same for the main show after the finale of the last season thought (despite I'm a fan of the rest of the S6)...

I may be wrong, but when Ballarini was involved, wasn't the film supposed to have live action throughout the majority of the film?

You got it. That and even some humans involved in it. But it wasn't his personal decision: before Lionsgate decided to be he Publisher of the Movie, Sony was the original one, but Meghan and company dropped it because Sony didn't let them to do their job. Probably if Lionsgate didn't decide to be the publisher.... the Movie would have been cancelled (man, I already hate Sony so much for having messed up the videogaming, now it even tried t screw up my favorite cartoon ever, at least this time it failed).... in any case after Lionsgate decided to be the publisher, Meghan and the others had more freedom, and they hired the best team they could have or this Movie.

I knew an Ice Age writer would be involved, but I was hoping it was the writer of one of the first two movies at least. Now that I know it was the Ice Age 4 guy thank God he isn't involved with the movie anymore  :orly:

Anyway, this new writer looks promising, Mulan and Toy Story 2 are great  :D now I'm sure the movie will at worst be decent.

Edit: I just realized my wording is probably a little confusing, I said that in the worst of cases it'd still be decent, that meant I have great expectations  :please:

Of all the writers of MLP:FIM, McCarthy wrote the most double-length episodes. So even though not all of her episodes were extremely great (imo, at least), she is probably the most experienced, and therefore the most qualified to write the movie.

Well, yeah, but the "at best" part is still the same  :twi:  I'm not worried about a bad writer ruining the movie anymore.

There's more buddy! Rita Hsiao it's not the only animated Movies' ultraveteran involved in this Movie: Jayson Thiessen, director of the first five seasons of MLP and director of the Movie as well, happens to be friend with a legendary animator expert of visual effects called Michel Gagné, who worked on several hits movies of the 90s like The Swan Princess, The Land Before Time, The Iron Giant, The Quest of Camelot, a pair of Pixar Movies (Ratatouille and The Incredibles to be precised) and even the Powerpuff Girls Movie. And guess what? He has been hired as Visual effect leader for this Movie!

Uh.... they really want to make this Movie a big hit uh?

Still, would be cool if James Cameron was the writer.

Seriously yo, I'd hate a ponies in live action world. Just see the Smurfs, Garfield, and Alvin and the Chipmunks just to name a few. Which one of the is any good? They're only successful because they visually appeal to kids and they lack higher judgement to judge a movie. Besides, what's so attractive with FiM? It's characters. What these live action tend to do? Make the human characters overshadow the ones WE'RE ACTUALLY INTERESTED IN. Aside from the above, the Transformer movies tend to do this pretty often.

It would make sense if this was a live action adaptation of the first G1 show, but this ain't generic and underdeveloped ponies with an audience surrogate as protagonist; this stars ponies, and that how it should be >_>

That's fantastic, these are some of the best movies in many of our childhoods. The only way this can be ruined is if instead of cooperating, they'll attempt to take over the writing duties  :D . I'm pretty sure they're both mature and reasonable adults though  :orly:

Yeah, I was afraid he would write the movie for a while until the rumors died down and Rita's surfaced

Or a cult classic yo :orly:

While it is true not all her episodes where great, most of them are of the best the show has offered. Plus she got more experience with two parters than anyone else, which, as we all know, are mostly adventure and a threat of Equestria going bonkers, which we know the movie leans towards to

Umm, where did I say that the movie should be live action? I'm talking about it being animated, set in Equestria.

Not for me. To me this movie will the send off, no matter what will happen afterward (you know my reasons...).

Oh, thought you were aware Sony wanted the pony movie to be like the .... "masterpieces" I've mentioned. Still, I'm not too keen of involving humans either (unless they're from the EG's human world instead of ours in a crossover :dash:)

I understand those reasons. And frankly, I wish you'll have enough strength of will to leave it at that, because if said movie is well advertised and successful, ponies will invade every corner of the world again, and it ain't easy to stay away from something you left if it's everywhere

You know, I hope with the writing, this movie will be more than just a longer MLP episode, it has to be bigger. You know why many of the animated movies are so successful? Because they have good and deep messages subtly delivered. While FiM is no stranger of leaving good messages, but most of these are delivered pretty normally and kinda basic, the movie has to step up the game

You know, I've been able to completely ignore everything about modern videogames after I've completely dropped them since this June (even thought there are a few other games I'm interested in before I'm 100% done thought, but I'm using Wikipedia for those), what makes you think it will be different for MLP? I don't think I'll have any problem in ignoring anything about it once I'll quit it with the Movie.

Is it because of how the Mane 6 were treated? Honestly, I feel that the finale was made to let Starlight save the day for once.

It's true, the S6 finale  and the way the Mane 6 were treated in it is one of the reasons I've decided to quit after the Movie, but it's not the main reason I'm taking that decision, and I'm gonna quit after it even in the eventuality the S7 proves me wrong. Here's why: https://mlpforums.com/blog/3202/entry-21483-whats-happened-to-me/
