Magic in the human world. Should it exist?

While it seems to me that Sunset Shimmer wants magic in the human world, and the writers are seemingly going to press the subject of introducing it more in a world where it has never existed until Starswirl built the portal to trap the sirens in the AU, i have to wonder, do humans really want magic in their world?

the stream of magic has been mostly sealed off every 30 moons, and damage kept to a minimum for hundreds of years, until the first case of Equestrian magic creating Gaia Everfree and the magical geodes in Gloriosa and Timber's great grandparent's day. (Possibly around the time the Sirens came over).

But their world has never needed magic to protect it, and across every movie so far, the humane 6/7 who have been embodiments of the pony elements of harmony have been wanting to remove it from their lives also- scared of the crazy magical girl who was the school mean girl turned demon in movie 1, oblivious ti the fact that magic was needed to take down the sirens in movie 2, trying to keep it out the Friendship Games in movie 3, and in movie 4, at the camp, they were hesitant to use their new powers.

Seems that only Sunset has been keen on embracing it, but forgetting that magic really shouldn't belong in the human world in the first place.

I suppose they're making it out so magic can exist either from Equestria and in the human world (the mane five seemed to have magic that they used to protect Twilight). I think it'd be important to give a magic using villain who's originally from earth to show that they do need magic after all.

The Equestria Girls movie revolves around magic. Every single Equestria Girls movie has revolved around magic, and removing it would be a HORRIBLE IDEA.

But without magic the villain would have been powerless. Wouldn't it have been better to have a villain originally from Earth that didn't use magic be stopped by magic to show that they do need magic after all?

I think they should use Human Magic. It'd be a good story hook to keep going back to, and it will also be another way to make the Human world more unique. Ideally, it would be quite different from Equestria's magic, and looking into it's history, including where it went, why it hasn't been seen very much, how it works, etc... is something they could delve into.

the very first movie was set up for Equestrian magic to be removed. At the end, Twilight said the magic of FRIENDSHIP still existed in any world. But the writers keep relying on Equestrian magic in all their movies. And it's not supposed to be there.

It's a strange power which human science cannot yet understand. I'm kinda surprised that humans aren't more afraid of it, really - it seems potentially dangerous, and they still don't entirely know how it works, so it's unpredictable. It doesn't seem to have an inherently negative impact on the world, though, so outside of headcanon I see no reason why it strictly *shouldn't* exist.

As for whether the series would work without it on a meta level... I mean, it's possible, but it'd come at the cost of the films' plot-driven action. It'd need to be very much a sitcom, and while I find the idea of a sitcom in a "mundane" version of Equestria interesting, I'm not sure how long it could go while keeping a fresh take on these characters.

I know, but if the writers DID remove the magic from EQG, then the plot would probably be quite boring. Outside forces from other dimensions stealing disharmony makes for a better plot than some teenage girls playing music in a showcase for no reason.

If the magic, pastel skin colors, and MLP names were removed, only a generic highschool series (with even less action) would be left.

teens can get into a lot of crazy stuff without magic. If they're allowed to ride motorcross in school, why not street racing? Why not a cruise and shipwreck on an uninhabited island? Why not blasting off into space?

Yes it should exist.

What makes the films stand out from FIM and allowed them to branch out into their own identity, is the whole magical girl-esque elements introduced thanks to magic existing in the universe the series takes place in now.

That "Friendship Games" broke so much with reality with the whole motorcross thing brings up a whole lot of potential for non-magical absurdity which I think focusing on the "magic" element would cause to not be explored. I kinda think that's a lot more interesting than the frankly generic magical girl route the movies seem to be going down. I just wanna see how these characters live without magic!

Eleven of them developed an accelerated form of cancer, psychotic outbreaks and dissociation.

The nervous system can't handle this amount of information.

One of the risks of artificial evolution. The result is an advanced form of genetics, with null generational experience. No ancestors, no memory of wisdom, lacking empathy and compassion.

Conflictive, divisive and territorial. Humankind won't be handling ether any time soon.

You're cut off from the rest of the galaxy for a reason. An experiment that wasn't meant to happen, because of the careless creators of the human specimen. A mere resource.

While the geodes may indeed have Equestrian magic, I believe the story of Gaia Everfree was made up by Timber Spruce to hide his sister's usage of the geodes.

There are lots of strange unexplained things already in the world and there are countless stories/legends of such that have existed since the distant past. Perhaps magic leaking in from another world would help explain some of that. Or some level of magic already exists here. The point is, magic may have been here for a long time and though it's not as integrated into daily life as it is in Equestria, it does have some indirect influence on the world and its development over the ages. Who knows what may happen if that ancient magic is suddenly removed from the world. And what would the world be like today if all the seemingly magical things in the past never occurred.
