It they were introduced as 'foreigners' a la the Saddle Arabians, then it would probably be ... fine? Although there will be the contingent that complain just for the sake of complaining. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the Saddle Arabians *are* the G2 ponies...

I would be surprised if they were. They're about as tall as Sunbutt, which would be nearly the size of Dream Beauties. G2 ponies wouldn't be that tall. Maybe a head and a half taller than the standard base of g4 natives

I really like generation 2 the figures are pretty and I like how they look like Arabian horses which is my favorite breed of horse so I would like to see that.

 

As for how fans would react well its hard to say due to some will accept it and others will just probably flip out and hate it just for the sake of hating something.

If they appeared in an episode like the Saddle Arabians did, no one would mind I am sure.... not every pony/horse species in Equestria needs to look the same after all. If suddenly they became the new design or some such... well mass hysteria comes to mind.
