Royal sisters alicorn immortality cover-up?

So, thanks to the book, "the mares of S.M.I.L.E", we know Equestrian government cover-ups exist, and go as far up as Sunbutt. Thanks to many episodes in the series, we know that astounding amounts of mind control magic and knowledge of it (Lesson Zero, Every Little Thing She Does, Swarm of the Century, Inspiration Manifestation, The Crystaling) out there.we also know that Sunbutt likes to keep her cards close to her chest, not revealing information unless it's an imminent threat (as seen in the return of NMM and Sombra).

 

While the sisters are said to live a rather long time, it has never been confirmed that they are immortal. In fact, the only instance where we hear of immortality is from a plant called the Eternal Flower, in a Daring Do book.

 

Megan McCarthy once provided an explanation that Twilight would not be immortal and outlive her friends, when she had become an alicorn. But can the same also be said of the royal sisters, Cadance, and Flurry Heart? Is it possible that Sunbutt, as the head ruler, has been covering up the longevity of alicorns? Could she also have also have too easily convinced the populace of alicorn immortality through the abundance of mind control to keep herself and other alicorns in power as long as possible (whatever her intent)?

Megan McCarthy is just wrong about Twilight. Once she joined the ranked of the Alicorns, she was able to alter Megan's thoughts, so that she didn't realize Twilight was now immortal. This is because Twilight wants to maintain her relationship with her friends as 'normal' for as long as possible. She feels somewhat bad about how much power she now holds over anypony that comes near, so she is in denial about it, and is pretending nothing is going on. However, as time passes, she will view them as they are, loyal ponies who's entire purpose in life should be to serve her!

That would require the writers to actually care about Celestia enough to warrant any sort of plot line, let alone what you just suggested.

Well, the Journal of the Two Sisters mentions that alicorn-born ponies aren't in fact immortal, just long lived. I dunno if that applies with Cadance or Twi for being MADE alicorns. McFlurry is a confusing case, as she was born alicorn, but from an unicorn father, and a pegasus-born alicorn

Pure alicorns have a much longer life-span than other ponies though ponies who ascended to alicorns would retain their average life expectancy, though whether this will ever be mentioned in the show remains to be seen. Twilight and Cadance will live as long as your typical Equestrian pony, yet Flurry Heart is expected to live as long as Celestia and Luna since she is a pure alicorn despite one of her parents being just a unicorn.
