Five Princesses are too many? How about twenty?

Sometimes, I just gotta laugh at the people who think 5 princesses in the show (technically, there are 10 in g4 as a whole) are too many. While that may be true, and alicorn princess Twilight, Cadance, and Flurry are unnecessary, Hasbro could've gone the g2 route by making 20 pony princesses.

Or the g3 route by literally saying EVERYONE was a princess. Compared to those numbers, 5 princesses is tolerable.

I've always found this type of argument to be more than a little silly.

I mean, I fail to see why you can't think that there is too many princesses in the show just because Hasbro could've added more.

I'm saying against the argument that each princess on the animated series of g4 (there are more in comics and toyline) play an important role try, when it's argued that there are too many. Unlike past gens who had tons of princesses that were there just to be there. No role, no personality, no nothing

Who says all Alicorns have to be princesses?

If they gave Flurry Heart an actual role later, would it change anyone's mind? (G4.5 spin-off prolly is when it'd happen lol)

I mean let's face it, even if Flurry Heart wasn't born an alicorn, given that her parents are the prince and princess of the Crystal Empire, she was bound to be a princess anyway.

And plus the whole complaints about her being useless would still mostly be the same, given that she is only a baby, and thus there isn't much she reasonably could have done in the show.

Although an episode where Twilight and Pinkie Pie babysat Flurry Heart could have been nice.

Tbh she is probably a plot device.

The Reason is that Alicorns have a VERY heavy sense of weight in the series compared to G1 or G3-- they're NOT just royalty, they're basically Goddessess too. As such, people get upset when a Princess is introduced without a purpose.

Personally, I'd be 100% fine with more princesses, but SOLELY if they have a role in the world like how Celestia and Luna control the sun and the Moon-- I even find Cadence to have a very real purpose due to the crystal heart as well.

Princesses can be introduced but they must not be introduced FRIVILOUSLY.

in what way are they goddesses? If you say its because they can control the sun and moon, then news flash- the unicorns were doing it long before the royal sisters stepped onto the scene. And double newsflash, Twilight did it too. And so did Discord....

They're immortal while Normal ponies are mortal and lack that ability without Virtually killing themselves (A unicorn doing it for long is like a Human handling nuclear material by hand). That's greek level God right there.

And Discord is the SPIRIT OF CHAOS, not a mortal being, and twilight too Is an alicorn and was filled with the magic of THREE other immortals at the time-- She's probably immortal as well anyways too :P

My thought is that Alicorns are destine to be rulers of some kind. I suppose adding more would be fine but they seem to have very very powerful positions in Equestria. You can only have so many powerful positions

hey, if they Conquer the southern lands, SOMEONE will have to take over ruling them :P

I think people complain about it because initially, Celestia and Luna were supposed to be the only two alicorns in the show according to what Lauren Faust, but then this was changed when Cadance was introduced. The writers wanted to do their own thing once she left rather than simply continue with her vision so Twilight ascended and eventually Flurry Heart came into the picture. Five alicorns isn't really a bad thing as they are still seen as a small group compared to the other pony tribes, but fans also complain that they serve as a deus ex machina.

I understand the argument that more alicorns dilutes the mythic feel of the princess sisters, and that mythic aspect was one of the initial draws of the show for me, but I don't see why it's so enraging to have... uh... five, which really isn't that many given that any extremely accomplished pony can become one. Besides, I don't really care for the notion of alicorns as "deities," even with (some of) their long lives. Certainly doesn't make Twilight's ascension any less aggravating...

Even if they are deities, there are several pantheons which are far wider than the paltry selection of princesses in this show, so I don't think that argument holds up. Aside from Flurry Heart, they all have a fairly clear "role," and as for Flurry... well, the genetics add up, no? And I'm sure there's plenty of pantheons where babies exist, and I dunno if those babies are assigned a domain at birth.

Not at birth no, but they generally always get a domain of sorts later on in life.

Which actually ties into flurry heart; I ONE HUNDRED PERCENT expect she'll get a "domain" of some kind later on, given how Celestia notes that her birth must portend something important for the empire with her destiny; So I don't doubt that flurry will be given *Something* important for her existence in the future.
