It feels like Brony music isn't as diverse as it could be

its really heavy on the EDM and instrumental, and seems to lack music with vocals, more often than not (which I like, along with more pop (but mostly) rock elements.

How do others feel about this seeming lack of diversity in the fan-made music department?

I could see that, I do feel like there could more content in other genres the problem is it muck harder for amateurs or beginners to learn how to make those other genres vs EDM and its hard to form a rock/metal bands, jazz, or other group genres as you'd have to find bronies that are also skilled at want you want in your genre. EDM is also easier to write the other genres as well. I would love to see more diversity in music i don´t really see it happening.

That's basically the reason why I'm not into brony music at all. Maybe it's cause this musicians are infulenced by songs from the show itself, whick are... meh... I mean, they're not bad. They're just simple and alike.

But more likely the reason of this could be the lack of platform that would allow brony-musicians to get money and some worthy attention for writing their songs. Not for the sake of money itself, but beacause writing and producing instrumental music takes lot of recources. Electronic music is cheaper and easier to make, you don't even need an actual instrument or good sound recording devices.

And, sadly, Hasbro would not allow this kind of platform to exist.

Plus don't forget, the majority of brony musicians don't really have as much experience. Most of them only use a laptop and FL Studio or other DAW to make music that repeats and stales out quickly. This is why I don't listen to brony music, because the majority of it isn't developed enough.

Hello @Nightmare Muffin

Do remember that the Fan Music section's specific purpose is giving the possibility to showcase original creations of musical nature, whereas your topic ostensibly holds the potential for discussions unrelated to any work of your creation. Therefore, this post shall be relocated to Sugarcube Corner.

Have a lovely day.

sadly this is a massive fact and one that hits my other half really hard as a musician. He's really big on creating lengthy alternative rock tracks, some with vocals. but they way he sees the fandom is that its full of kids who think they are DJs or artists because they can sample from the show and press a few buttons. Theres no actual musical talent or much skill in it. Which also can make for very poor live gigs at the cons unless you know what youre doing.

The last BUCK's Summer Sun dance night was poor in quality because there were no singers, there was no realy live music, just a few guest DJs and electronic artists pushing buttons. ok yeah so it might be better to dance to but theres no stage presence or personality.

I do like the EPM and remixes that come and go, but I would be so much happier if the the Brony fandom gave more love and support to actual talented musicians who sing and play real instruments.  We had a fair number at the start but theyve moved on to other things.... because this fandom is obsessed with dubstep. It does take a toll on the creative community, but I guess you guys dont really notice unless you are one of those musicians.

Well most brony musicians don't really have major experience or super expensive resources, so EDM is generally made from the limited resources they can get their hands on, which makes sense why most of their music is that.

This sums up a lot of the reason you had what you had for a while. Every now and again you get a Ponyphonic or Forest Rain who will do fandom music in various genres, but there is more of a barrier to entry with creating a fully produced country or rock track.

I'm not much of a fan of brony music. A lot of it seems to be instrumentals that have no link whatsoever to the show, other than the creator giving it a ponycentric name.  Some of it is even Dub-Step. Sorry, but a really loud baseline and nothing else doesn't interest me.

A majority of the fandom is nerds... So logically that makes sense because dubstep and autotune kinda music is on da computers

I'm in choir right now as a class in middle school, and I don't think a crowd is my kind of thing. A digital crowd is different, because I don't see them and I can patch mistakes. So ye

I wouldn't say it lacks diversity. If you search for it, there's quite a bit of pony music that isn't EDM style. There's rock, rap, symphonic, and more.

I think it's just that EDM is more prominent in the fandom, and a lot of the musicians in the other genres have left the fandom, or haven't released any music in awhile.
