Music help.

So, Hi everypony.

So I have a question for anypony.. I need a bit of help.

I'm attempting to create my own music.

Pony themed, of course. I'm just unsure on.. Where to start.

I have a general idea of what I'd like it to sound like in my head, but I'm a little lost on how to actually accomplish the task.

I have FL studio 9 to work with. With it, I've created a few loops of music that I actually quite enjoy.

So what I'm asking here is, does anypony have any tips or tricks on how to use FL studio? Is there a better program I should be using? And would anypony be willing to actually talk and help me with the project? O:

So I said "OATMEAL!? Are you CRAZY!?"

And that's how Equestria was made!

I'm in no way an expert with FL Studio, or even music for that matter, but I do have a little experience. I'd be glad to help in any way I can.

What is it that you are struggling with the most?

If it's how to start a song, I generally make a drum track first. Then an intro melody of some sort, and then add bass and synth

:Edit - Also, about if there is a better program out there, that is mostly just a matter of opinion. Some people like FL, some people like Reason. I prefer FL Studio because it is a little easier to use compared to other programs I have tried. It also depends on what style of music you are trying to make also.

Well.. It's a few things that's confusing me. Starting the song for one is a bit of a challenge. But I've made a few beats that I want to incorporate.. It's just a struggle making what I have in my head, come to life in front of me.

I'm not sure how to.. properly start the song. Like, what I have made is what I want in the middle but I'm unsure on how to make things sound good.. Augh I'm awful at explaining things. XD

It's fine. I think I understand :) I have the same trouble sometimes. Do you know any music theory? Another member of this form named ExtraPaws pointed me to some great music tutorials. It helped soooo much - http://warbeats.com/...-and-Tones#view

Once you understand a little music theory, everything seems to come together pretty easily.

With how to start your song though, it's really up to you. Most people start with drums, then they have the main melody line come in shortly after as an intro, then some other instruments come in for the verse, then a few more instruments come in for the chorus. The link I just posted should clear up most of the problems you are having :D

My top pick for you if you have instruments, or midi devices I'd suggest ableton live, or reason. Both Amazing with MIDI, nothing is quite as responsove as ableton when it comes to midi. If you are just making music with your click mouse, I'd suggest you get some hardware to hook up to your PC.(preferably a mac for music)

It's difficult having a dream, and starting from the ground up but.. Oh well! xD

I'm literally doing this all with a PC and a mouse. :(

If things get better for me, picking up some equipment is probably a really good investment. : D Thanks for the advice!

It's no problem at all. Glad I could help :)

It is difficult having to start at the bottom and work your way up, but with enough determination and practice, anything is possible B)

After you learn some music theory, the next step would be learning how to use all the special features in FL Studio. They have tutorials on Youtube for that, or I can explain it step by step if you want
