As in, ponies may not know the Pony of Shadows true origin, and for those that did find out about it came up with their own theories that just stuck around? Probably what they'll go with. that being said, Luna DID get sucked into a demon dimension in LOM 1 right? Maybe the pony of shadows is something that piggybacked on her back to equestria without being noticed and split off from her when she was defeated? Basically I don't think NMMs magic manifested into some being because Applejack just said it was a remnant of her dark magic. I'm a big opponent of the "destined for greatness" cliche that pops up in anime where the hero is basically the hero or successful because they start with a stacked deck compared to everyone else; I prefer it when they're literal nobodies who are who they are through hard work and beat the faces in of the people WITH bloodline advantages or past ancestors/connections instead. I think a lot of hype I had for the finale just went out the window.... His episodes are always fun, but blighted by too many characters and excess padding, leading to rushed, unsatisfactory endings. That's something a co-writer can definitely help with.
