Theory [HEADCANNON] Just HOW STRONG is Pinkie's Party Cannon?

In the IDW comics, Pinkie Pie has unveiled that she carries live ammunition for her party cannon.  She has attempted to do that even NOT AS A VILLAIN, against Iron Will. Thankfully Rarity stopped her, otherwise he'd be dead!  I decided to do a few hours of speculation as to consider how powerful her cannon 290mm deliverer of fun actually is!

 

Conclusion: she could destroy any modern tank, as her cannon is about the strength of one found on a WW2 era battleship

Pinkie's party cannon doesn't have the barrel length for long range. It's actually more of a mortar or signal cannon. A charge powerful enough to overcome the shortcomings of the barrel length (pun intended!) would not actually fit in the barrel. Note the thinness of the barrel wall. Even if such a powerful charge could fit, the first firing would be the last. The barrel would explode.

The Mark 7 guns on Iowa class battle ships were 66 feet long, with a 16 inch bore. That's 406MM. They fired projectiles taller than a man, that weighed between 1900 to 2700 pounds at a range of twenty-four miles.  They could take a maximum propellant charge of 660 pounds of smokeless powder. After modern refits, they can also fire nuclear warheads.

I don't think it's the cannon per se, I think it is Pinkie. Pinkie seems to be exempt from most of the laws of physics that apply in the MLP, especially around her cannon. If you assume her EqG ability to make stranded sugar explode on demand is one of her pony abilities too, then her cannon may be little more than a launch tube for self-propelled payloads that continue to accelerate right up until impact.

In real life this would certainly be classified as a mortar, though Pinkie refers to it as a cannon, so we just call it "cannon" instead. Like the Tsar Cannon.

In my other notes I did address the fact that her cannon is impossible. Think. In real life:

 

• The charge would blow up the barrel
• There is no freaking gun breech
• The cannon would weigh literal tons and so would the ammo, you'd need an crew
• Short barrel, would have no accuracy
• The recoil would realistically launch the cannon and adversely affect the velocity and destroy the accuracy, as the force exerted on the gun is equal to or greater than the gun itself.
• There is no freaking gun breech
• There doesn't seem to be a chamber for explosives. There is no place to put a charge.

All that said can only be answered by "because it's Pinkie". After all, she fired it, shot a medium ranged target (though not with real rounds, thank rarity) , conceals IT AND THE 770 POUND AMMO, and it somehow survives 2 firings. I had to accept these as a given. I just decided to ponder given what we've seen in the comics transpired.

 

I compared it to the Mark V, not Mark VII. Closer caliber.

It could be a muzzle loader. That would take a lot of time and care though. Pinkie Pie is the deciding factor though. Her unique relationship to physics quite possibly extends to objects she is in close proximity to. If Discord had a daughter, he'd want her to be just like Pinkie.

Here's a thought. Pinkie Pie could become president of the Ponyville Gun Club. She could then be the driving force behind building a massive party cannon to fire the first ponies to the moon! Aside from Princess Luna, that is. Luna could come along as scientific advisor.
