Sibling time seems skewed

We've seen Rarity spend a good chunk of episodes with her sister, Sweetie Belle, Scootaloo having a fair amount of episodes with Rainbow Dash, and Apple Bloom sharing a large amount of episodes with Applejack, but we haven't really gotten much in the way of Twilight spending time with Shining Armor, or Fluttershy spending time with Zephyr Breeze (and while I know that the latter has come into the picture much, much later, it still feels like the siblings who have sisters are more favored)- case in point, Twilight has spend more one on one time with Cadance, her sister-in-law-than her own brother. Are sisterly relationships being put on a pedestal while brothers get the short end of the stick? (don't even get me started on parents)

To be fair, Zephyr isn't really presented as a pony Flutters would WANT to spend time with; Twi makes less sense given she and SA are supposed to be close, but I can see how being captain of the guard then prince of the crystal empire would tend to fill in his time a bit.

Just look at Rarity and Sweetie Belle. Even they're finding it more and more difficult to spend time together, and both still live in the same town.

Sure. Subject of one of the S7 eps, after all

But it took two full seasons before he was even mentioned (not only in the show, but the other ponies didn't know who he was)

But the first three seasons occurred within a single year remember? So technically speaking it can't have been that long.

Sure. but the mane 6 also went to the Grand Galloping Gala in S1 - you would think if her B B B F F were captain of the guard, he would be there and she would at least introduce him....

Shining Armour is too busy ruling over the Crystal Empire and serving as the Captain of the Royal Guard over there to be able to spend time with Twilight. Plus, he has a daughter now so his priorities are more geared towards her. Zephyr Breeze on the other hand I would attribute to his voice actor not being part of the regular cast thus Zephyr being reduced to really minor appearances.

The age and responsibilities of the mane 6's siblings are what impact the most on the time they share with them.

On top of that you have the lessons to be learned from each of them when shown on screen.

The CMC are strong secondary characters and have the perfect age to learn a lot of lessons, there's no need to compare any other siblings with them, it just wouldn't be fair.

The only pony I've seen to have a bigger role and still compare to the rest of the siblings is Maud, she wasn't even mentioned (or shown in Pinkie's memories) before Pinkie Pride yet has been in at least one episode per season since S4, I think the editors are clearly pushing her to the spotlight after the great popularity she had since her first appearance in Maud Pie.

The thing about Maud is, even with a bigger spotlight than other siblings, she doesn't seem to share that much time with Pinkie (compared to the CMC) and that's because of her responsibilities, adult brothers and sisters just don't have as much time to share as the youngsters.

Shining Armor rules the Crystal Empire and have duties as Captain of the Royal Guard. Not to mention that he has to be a Father to Flurry Heart too, I can imagine his full schedule with barely any free time to hang out with Twilight. It must be really hard for him to accommodate his time for her, I'm afraid. The only time I think they'll meet and greet is whenever either she meets him in the Crystal Empire or vice-versa, at her castle but that's not even really considered as quality sibling time. Maybe if Shining Armor can drop a day and just dedicate some quality time with Twilight, then that's a potential future episode I would love to see. This would also account to how busy Twilight is too with her duties. 

Zephyr Breeze, despite his initial reception within the fandom might have more potential for some free time for Fluttershy. Of course after "Flutter Brutter", I think it's less of a issue with time for a chance for them to hang out because Zephyr's weight in responsibilities and duties aren't like Shining Armor's. So it's easier for him to drop by sometimes. 

One aspect I would like to see or followed up on is how Big Mac's closeness towards Applebloom since "Brotherhooves Social" or even spend some quality time with Applejack, which I think the show hadn't really shown.

Shining could easily be explained that he's too busy, though I agree bonding between two is overdue 

Zephyr though I'm sure not many people would shed tears if he never showed his face again

Maud is the only older sibling who has really spent a lot of time with her sister. Shining and Zephyr are along the same lines as Pinkie's other sisters, who also never spend time with her. Shining has at least shown up every now and again, whereas Marble and Limestone have had cameos at most.

With Zephyr, though, I think the writers might have created a problem for themselves by making him kind of a jerk, as that strains his relationship with Fluttershy and generally makes his return less desireable. I think he has potential, though.

UM, it is never actually said the mane 6 didn't know who Shining Armor was, in fact, the first thing after Twilight goes "MY BROTHER" is Applejack saying "Your brother is getting married, that's great news!" Nor did any of them ask for his name, she just kind of said it.

I think that's really just AJ being friendly. Twi had to (or chose to) explain everything, starting with what a B B B F F was, what her relationship with her brother was like (in the form of a song and repeated flashbacks) and that he was captain of the guard. It's as though he and Cadence (who oddly Twi didn't recognize, despite her being the ONLY other princess in Equestria) didn't even exist until this episode.....

Maybe Twilight only has heard the name Cadence. And seeing how the mane 6 aren't even celebrities, Twilight not knowing Cadence seems logical.
