CastletonSnob 3,074 September 23, 2017 Share September 23, 2017 By this, I mean how will the movie do at the box office? Do you think it could break box office records? Could it at least be number one on opening weekend?
cmarston1 5,959 September 23, 2017 Share September 23, 2017 No one knows yet. I think it will do fine, but not anything super amazing or break records of any kind.
Denim&Venöm 19,082 September 23, 2017 Share September 23, 2017 Given the modest budget, the lack of advertising with less than a month remaining, and that not all theater chains are gonna show it, it wont be setting any kind of records. Probably won't even open in the top 3. With international releases picking up the slack, I think the film will be a modest succsess. The real test will be on how well the toys sell.
Mesme Rize 15,683 September 23, 2017 Share September 23, 2017 I think it will make less then most of the people in the fandom where expecting and it will make enough as i was expecting. Like some said, the advertisement is very few and far between in the US and barely existant here in Germany, not to mention that it faces a tough competition with the new Blade Runner coming out at the same time. I think it will do good enough in the US but will have not alot of success over here in Europe. If the movie makes it's budget back and Hasbro sells enough toys, Hasbro will be happy. 1 My OC Mesme Rize: >https://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/mesme-rize-r8777 Thank you Randimaxis for this Wonderful Avatar. Please, don't be afraid to talk to me. I am not as unapproachable, as you might think.
Jeric 46,852 September 23, 2017 Share September 23, 2017 30 million opening domestic. Could be 25 million. The October record is held by Gravity which is in the 50 million range. Blade Runner will likely beat MLP that weekend. October is one of the easier months to forecast, but as we still don't have screen count numbers it isn't possible beyond general statistical analysis. Those that suggest 50 million plus are being way too hopeful and some have said 80 million which is bordering on insanity. 3 minutes ago, Mesme Rize said: I think it will make less then most of the people in the fandom where expecting and it will make enough as i was expecting. I noticed that there is a theater in Zurich that is freaking pushing this like it's a summer blockbuster. @_@ 1 hour ago, Denim&Venom said: Given the modest budget, the lack of advertising with less than a month remaining, and that not all theater chains are gonna show it, it wont be setting any kind of records. That last sentence ... is why this film exists. It's to stabilize and drive merch sales. Hasbro will be happy if that happens and they will have cover from investors thanks to its October release.
Drunkfrank 1,125 September 29, 2017 Share September 29, 2017 I am predicting 25 million opening weekend, 35 if reviews are good. I am expecting around 100-150 million lifetime. I imagine merch for the movie is already doing well thanks to us bronies because most of it is really high quality stuff (that storm king statue is fantastic and I want it) so I think aside from box office the MLP movie will be a pretty big hit for Hasbro. immblueversion 331 September 29, 2017 Share September 29, 2017 (edited) Most likely not #1, unfortunately. Pony fans might be more dedicated and families might give it a shot, assuming they don't want to give "Lego Ninjago" another shot, but Blade Runner doesn't have the same, persistent stigma, not to mention how critics are gushing over it already while MLP reviews haven't even been logged yet, what with the embargo. Given how hardly anyone's talking about it, I don't even know if MLP will even reach $10 million in its opening weekend. But I don't know how box office numbers work, and if "Norm of the Effing North" can make back its budget, I'm not expecting this to be a disaster, either. Then again, "Norm" definitely shows a lower budget... Edited September 29, 2017 by immblueversion
Tacodidra 61,199 October 6, 2017 Share October 6, 2017 Depends on the country. Its Finnish release might flop badly, as I just heard some worrying rumors. As I stated before, I was not planning to see the film's theatrical release, as only a dubbed version will be distributed in the Finnish movie theaters. The distributor, Nordisk Film, has been asked about this in YouTube comments (on trailers of the film and such), but they're not replying to these comments (only to some "more positive" comments). But this is not even the worst thing. I've just read that Nordisk Film and Finnkino (the largest theater chain in the country, with a 68% market share according to this article (in Finnish)) are having a disagreement over the ticket prices of a new Finnish film. If this isn't solved quickly, it might affect the premieres of four films, including MLP. I also checked the websites of a few smaller theaters and some of them aren't listing the film at all in their coming attractions. It might not even get a proper run in theaters, which would rob it of any chance of a decent result. While I wasn't planning to see it myself due to the unavailability of the English version, I wanted it to have at least some success here, but seems it's not to be. Thankfully Finland is quite a small market and it might still do well elsewhere... And I can import the DVD when it's out. 1 Signature by @Sparklefan1234
