It will just end up like the simpsons, and modern spongebob.  Going on, and on will just result in staleness. Besides, theres always fimfiction, DVD's, comics, and fan animations. If hasbro decided to confiscate all DVD's and BLU-RAYS after g5 starts up, then i would be worried!  We can still see eachother girls! just dont end up like mr. Simpson down the street.  (slowly closes door)

See I have always disliked this assumption. Sure a show can run out of ideas eventually. But that does not mean it will. If great fanfiction can be generated endlessly for years for shows and fandoms so too could a show run for a massively long time without going stale or bad. Especially with such a wide open world like MLP.

Well I would be sad since it's been 8 years and I already grew a great deal of attachment to this series. I don't think nothing else could replace the empty void once it's over.  running out of idea or not, the comic has plantly of good ones that they could borrow and adjust.

I think that FiM as a 26 episode/22 minutes show is starting to struggle with new ideas for its most beloved characters, the mane 6.

In my opinion, the show could go on, without losing its charm, freshness or quality; by shifting the focus to different characters with a new perspective on friendship problems and having the mane 6 making their appearances as friendship sages, something that has already happened in episodes like 'Surf and/or Turf' with Twilight.

I would prefer the series to end before such decision could be made only to preserve the mane 6 as protagonists of the entire series, but I believe there's a way to push the show up to 12-14 seasons if big risks are taken.

There is also always rewatching it on dvd and the next gen seems at least via artwork leaks to have some promise.

I do not think that the risks would have to be that big. The might have to tone down the adventure for more slice of life stuff for the mane six but that does not mean that they need to totally shift focus. I mean I have often boggled at people that complain about the Simpsons as the new stuff is awesome and frankly better than some of the old. So idk why people are worried about the show after only 8 seasons. I mean there is a LOT to explore.

That's funny, also you could teach the grands kid that to teach friendship to other is to blast em'. It's the only way.

Maybe I was hoping for them to make a 2nd movie.  But to keep g4 alive I think the  IDW comic will do that part.

Have you seen the new or newish Ponyville Mystery comics with the CutieMark Crusaders? I have 1-3 and am waiting for 4 to drop. So I hope the comics keep things going for a while. I have not gotten into the larger comics yet because well I am so far behind FIM or Adventures in Magic that its not even funny...

I really hope they go to season ten for the show just because I hate odd numbers with the exception of 7. So maybe one more move before then?

Only things needed for the Mane Six are a Fluttershy/Pinkie episode to prove that it still works and an episode with the Wonderbolts for Rainbow Dash. Rarity, Twilight and Applejack don't really need anything more anyway.

Unless they are dead there is always more development to be had and stories to tell. This feels like something I see in every fandom fear of change or things going on "too long". People seem to just feel like open worlds must end or the "will' get bad. Which I never agree with.

I have not, to be honest I'm not much of a fan of CMC or anything with them.  But I have read the side comics of mlp but not the friendship is magic ones. Except for Tempest's return issues 67 and 68.  I'm excited for My little pony: nightmare knights. 

 

yeh s9 seem pretty off, I think it's best to end it with s10 for 10th anniversary and make it grand...along with 2nd movie.

There's only so much you can do with a format like FiM's that I'm amazed it's lasted this long, TBH.

But it's still truly happening in a pattern. In one season, we get more Rainbow Dash than Pinkie Pie, then in the next, it's more Pinkie than Rainbow, then vice versa season by season. And also since Season 4, it's more Spike then less Spike then more then less.

Well, it'd be hard to replace the Mane6 after so long, unless the upcoming show ends up as a spinoff

That fear of FIM suffering the same fate has merit considering the numerous examples. However, I'll die out of joy if the G5 show ends up as a spinoff with a different focus

Which isn't too farfetched considering that it's a pretty common practice to build up new entries from scratch, only to eventually adapt it to an older property. Maybe all we've seen in the leaks are all brainstorming ideas that in the end will end as a spinoff for FIM. And example would be the kirin, they where going to play a role in a movie tying with the new show, but now we know we'll see them soon in FIM

One question I have had in relation to G4 ending, is that are they still going to be making the you tube EQG series, because if they are doesn't hat still count as new material? 

The Simpsons should have ended around the time that their movie came out, since that was the last time I actually remember any good material from them.

Personally I think a good run time for any series is around 7-10 years, with exceptions of course.

Besides our beloved characters will still live on just like Pinky said in the Real Pink Pony song:

So you mean they cycle characters to avoid too much focus on one mane character out of 7? What does that have to do with the fact that they can keep expanding on all the characters as much as they wish for a good long time before issues crop up? I am genuinely lost here.

I am aware. I am looking forward to Nightmare Knights after it finishes. I sort of like the short comic series because I can jump in from the beginning and get them all, then skip the next one if its not of interest.

They do that (the cycling) and the expanding, but not on just one Mane character; most of them.

Like in Season 5, Pinkie Pie had at least four key episodes while the others (except Twilight) had just three or less, but then they gave AJ, RD and Rarity each at least five episodes (literally, the most in one season) in Season 6. And Spike, who didn't appear much in Season 7, is now overshadowing almost everypony this season. So most often, they do make up for lost time to certain main characters, usually if the episodes they write take so long, they get moved to the next season. Remember when Fluttershy's brother was planned to appear in Season 5? Well, he was moved to Season 6 instead. So anything we don't get in this current season can always go to Season 9.
