How do they do the squee

I used to think they used a rubber duck for the sound effect but I discovered that they actually make the sound themselves. Who came up with the squee and how do they do it?

I have no idea. It's probably something the sound department came up with and thought it sounded cute so they added it.

It's more like the sound from a squeeze/stress toy than a rubber duck. I imagine the way you get such a sound is with a reed at a certain angle or a specific hole size and then you use editing software till you get what you're looking for. Keep in mind I know nothing about instruments.

Most probably Pinkie Pie was the first pony to squee. I guess that's just a part of pony's nature.

Where did you discover that they made the sound themselves? It's pretty clearly a stock sound effect, since it sounds exactly the same each time it is heard. There was even a video on it:

 

If you're talking about in-universe explanations, it's pretty easy to make a high pitch ee-ee sound.

Eh, kind of. What puts me off about this is that it's a different pitch. But close enough.

I agree with @Sunny Fox in that it's probably a stock sound effect that they use and adjust the pitch in order to place more emphasis on it in some situations.

I remember watching the last Shrek movie and the exact sound was used with a plush toy. Regardless of what it is, I’m able to mimic it quite well so it could be human as well.

I'm pretty sure it's a stock sound. I've heard it a lot over the years in different things. I use it for a text message sound on my phone too!

There is a very common sound effects CD that has all the cartoon sounds. Sadly I never got it. It will probably be in there.

since it's a stock effect is it copyrighted? i really want to use it for videos but im worried about copyright   and if it is copyrighted can i purchase a license to use?
