LucasB 196 August 30, 2018 Share August 30, 2018 I used to think they used a rubber duck for the sound effect but I discovered that they actually make the sound themselves. Who came up with the squee and how do they do it?
MangoFoalix 25,038 August 30, 2018 Share August 30, 2018 I have no idea. It's probably something the sound department came up with and thought it sounded cute so they added it.

SharpWit 2,745 August 30, 2018 Share August 30, 2018 It's more like the sound from a squeeze/stress toy than a rubber duck. I imagine the way you get such a sound is with a reed at a certain angle or a specific hole size and then you use editing software till you get what you're looking for. Keep in mind I know nothing about instruments.
Luna's Admirer 945 September 1, 2018 Share September 1, 2018 Most probably Pinkie Pie was the first pony to squee. I guess that's just a part of pony's nature.

It's pretty clearly a stock sound effect, since it sounds exactly the same each time it is heard. There was even a video on it: If you're talking about in-universe explanations, it's pretty easy to make a high pitch ee-ee sound. Happy minion of The Fabulous One! What puts me off about this is that it's a different pitch. But close enough.
Ganondorf8 11,401 September 2, 2018 Share September 2, 2018 I agree with @Sunny Fox in that it's probably a stock sound effect that they use and adjust the pitch in order to place more emphasis on it in some situations.
EpicEnergy 23,225 September 17, 2020 Share September 17, 2020 I don't know, but it sounds really cute! *totally not up to any shenanigans*
Tom Gallagher 33,598 September 17, 2020 Share September 17, 2020 I remember watching the last Shrek movie and the exact sound was used with a plush toy. Regardless of what it is, I’m able to mimic it quite well so it could be human as well. Signature made by the amazing @Sparklefan1234
Splashee 28,568 September 17, 2020 Share September 17, 2020 It's actually a real baby that is being squeezed, to make that sound!
Cirrus. 1,090 September 19, 2020 Share September 19, 2020 I'm pretty sure it's a stock sound. I've heard it a lot over the years in different things. I use it for a text message sound on my phone too! People who don't know that my phone does it are always like, "what the heck was that?!?" Rainbow Rocks... at least how it could've looked... in a stranger, more interesting dimension For those who are wondering, Twilight is chewing bubble gum. Splashee 28,568 September 19, 2020 Share September 19, 2020 There is a very common sound effects CD that has all the cartoon sounds. Sadly I never got it. It will probably be in there.
