Best to Worst Ponies of Season 8?

My thoughts:

Rainbow > Rarity > Spike > Starlight > Applejack > Twilight > Fluttershy > Pinkie

Yep, it's clear, Pinkie Pie was definitely the worst this season because for the first time, she only got two useless solo episodes, neither of them where she is the only member of the Mane Six to appear at all, and she also never got to interact with the Student Six.

Now you tell me. I really hope this won't happen AGAIN in Season 9. I don't want her to end up in the same state as Fluttershy did in a few earlier seasons.

I actually think Twi has had a pretty decent season. Her only real low points that I could see were Marks for Effort and School Daze

School Daze was in character for Twi though - she was never one for challenging authority, so it took a lot to make her go against Celestia's advice...

I think the Main Six and Spike are the same ponies as always, it's just hard for them to be themselves sometimes since they now have to run a school now, so don't be so hard on them.

As we've seen in the episode, Fame and Misfortune, they're real ponies, not characters. Meaning, they try their best.

Since this thread seems to be about the Mane Six in specific:

 

1. Twilight (I agree with the people that say she's actually had a decent season)
2. Fluttershy (There's been little of her aside from  "Fake It 'Til You Make It" and "Sounds of Silence" (where she was done pretty well in my opinion))
3. Rarity (The fact Rarity is this high considering "Fake It 'Til You Make It" and "The End In Friend", is a pretty bad sign)
4. Applejack (When she isn't expressing her slight ego problems, still meh on her even then, and "Sounds of Silence" cements her low placement)
5. Rainbow Dash (I disagree with the majority here in saying that aside from "Grannies Gone Wild" she's been mediocre at best this season)
6. Pinkie (10% of the time she's funny, the other 90% she's aggravating)

Don't forget that Pinkie got nothing but two junk episodes. I don't want to see this happen again in the final season.

I also wish the writers would stop making too many Rainbow Dash episodes within one season because they increase her chance of getting bashed since two years ago on the show.

She still got her pairing episodes in S7 and S8, which are pretty good (Health of Information and Sound of Silence). Fluttershy still has better state than Pinkie. 

 

Forgot to rank these characters for the sake of this topic. Irank them based from their overall performance whether they are the main character or just suporting character.

The mane 8 (including Spike and Starlight):

1. Rarity. Whenever this character open her mouth, whatever she said is a blessing to me, i dont know why. Her character stay consistent throughout the season, even her The End in Friend, which people called a Non-compete Clause 2.0, is a MUCH better version. I cant resist her mannerisms.

2. Starlight. She was the best part of some episodes (School Daze, Mark for Efforts, Matter of Principals, Parent Map). Her episode with Trixie received good rating, even considered the best of the season. 

3. Spike. He has 3 episodes which features him as main character like Molt Down, Break Up Break Down and the upcoming one, all of them are good. His interactions with Smolder are gold. He is the only character in the mane 8 that has some great interaction with the student 6.

4. Rainbow Dash. Her performance in Non-compete Clause is atrocious but other than that, she is pretty good. She has two great episodes like Granny Gone Wild and Washout which balance between her character strengths and flaws.

5. Twilight. She still has decent appearances besides some glaring issues in Mark for Efforts, Yaki-Sax, Horse Play and Friendship University where she made some questionable decisions. At least Twilight is more productive than her S5, S6. 

6 & 7. Fluttershy & Applejack. These two are just not very spectacular this season, they both got their worst episode this season. They are both decent background character. Their greatest performance in S8 are in Sound of Silence too, so they are even.

8. Pinkie Pie. Just let you guys know that I am a Pinkie fan and it really hurts me to place her in the lowest rank. Pinkie is a pretty decent comedic background character whenever she got a screentime and has a great performance in The Mean Six but whenever she got her solo episodes, she become unfunny and annoying. At least The Maud Couple is not that bad, i can defence her in that ep but i cant do the same to Yaki-Sax which is the worst S8 ep. Pinkie in The Mean 6 and School Daze is what i want, why didnt they transfer that Pinkie to her solo episode? 

 

The Student Six:

1. Gallus. He has the most development in the group. His backstory can break your heart and he is the most funniest character in the group. 

2. Yona. This character started out the least interesting student but she keeps growing on me in her every appearance. Rockhoof and a Hard Place has every reasons that you like about Yona.

3. Ocellus. The cutest student in the group. The reason she is in 4th because she didnt get much development compare to the other. She is fun to watch but has very few things to explore.

4. Silver Stream. She is a Pinkie Pie version 2.0 in the most cutest way as much as possible. Her character development in What Lies Beneath improved her character a lot

5. Smolder. Outside her interactions with Spike, i dont have much things to say about her. 

6. Sandbar. He is Applejack of the mane 6, the common guy which is OK, he does his job well.

Couldn't agree with you more on that. If we see a Fluttershy/Pinkie episode in Season 9 (we MUST!), I assure you, she'll perk back up a lot of positions with that.

1. Spike. Both of his episodes so far have been fun, and occasional weirdness aside, so have most of his supporting roles. 
2. Starlight, who actually has a personality I enjoy this season. Finally, she feels like part of the group and not a dead weight on them. Her mild sinister inclinations are hilarious. Even with the terrible stuff she still does sometimes, I probably like her more than the mane six this season.
3. Rarity. No season which involves Plainity can be a bad season for her, and even "The End in Friend" can't bring that down.
4. Twilight. Being headmare has made her more distant sometimes, and I do question her feelings about other schools existing, but in general I feel this season has been effective in continuing the good streak that began in season 7. Part of me worries that she's slowly becoming Princess Celestia, though. 
5. Rainbow Dash. I don't think any of her season 8 starring roles have gotten her right at all, but compared to the others I at least feel like (most of) the writers have admirable ideas for her. She's a complex character who is probably the hardest to get right of the whole main cast, but by the same token that makes it pretty easy to come up with interesting ideas for her episodes. 
6. Pinkie. I can more or less excuse "The Maud Couple," even if I feel she could have tried harder to accomodate Mud Briar. "Yakity Sax" is just inept, though. 
7. Fluttershy. "Fake It 'Til You Make It" is so incoherent that I almost want to ignore it, but I found her irritating in "Sounds of Silence" as well. 
8. Applejack. I never want to see her behave aggressively towards her friends again. I'm so, so sick of it.

I agree about Applejack. More solo episodes in Season 9 would be better for her.

About Spike, however, I want less of him because most of the Mane Six didn't get as much attention as he did. And Starlight, maybe one more episode with Trixie is fine, as long as it only takes place in Ponyville.

1) Starlight - Continuing off S7 which I think is a good thing, has a lot of great developments that helped her improve my opinion of her. Only episode I didn't like was A Matter of Principals, mainly for the ending and how she both apologized and rewarded Discord for being an obnoxious douchebag

2) Rainbow Dash - Honestly think this was her best season since S3 based on The Washouts and Grannies Gone Wild alone, both of which are some of her best appearances in the whole show. Even then I actually like The End In Friend(or at the very least it would have been better had it focused entirely on RD and Rarity like the final 3rd did, which helped boost the episode a lot imo). Non Compete Cause is the only misstep imo, and even then I don't think it's as bad as the wringer S6 put her through. Also she got a few nice supporting roles

3) CMC - They were also great this season, I can't really think of anything too wrong with them

Even with my issues with Father Knows Beast

It was another good season worth of huge changes for the character, and his appearances were....mostly good

5) Twilight - I seriously don't understand everyone's issues with her this season. I keep seeing everyone yelling "SHE'S TOO MEAN" in certain episodes, yet, most of those episodes were episodes where she had to assert authority(Hearth's Warming Club, Marks For Effort). And outside the school she had a lot of great roles too(the Spike episodes, A Rockhoof and a Hard Place)

6) Rarity - A fine season for the most part, nothing that really stood out, mainly just good appearances, nothing completely awful either(again I mostly liked The End In Friend, since apparently that's an unpopular opinion)

7) AJ/Fluttershy/Pinkie Pie - A pretty average season, a good and bad appearances, but nothing really among the worst apart from Non Compete Clause(which again, I don't think it's the worse thing ever even if I dislike the episode) and Yakity Sax(which I actually think is a great episode for the remane 5). I actually liked Fake it Till You Make It, The Maud Couple and AJ's role in Grannies Gone Wild

 

I have issues with S8, but I really think people are speaking in really gross hyperbole here
