Akemi Homura 7,681 May 28, 2012 Share May 28, 2012 (edited) Earlier in my topics I posted that the Mane 6 would be slightly older, and the setting would be set a few years after the royal wedding. Everypony would be a bit more mature and more "refined", so to speak, but their major character traits still remain (i.e, Pinkie Pie is still energetic as hell and still very fun loving, but isn't paranoid anymore unlike "Party of One"). Here's how I think they would look like. Twilight She grows out her mane to the point where it can "flow with the wind", as it were. Very attractive, and considering she's still growing it makes sense. Rainbow Dash Rainbow Dash also grows out her mane to let out her feminine side, but because she's hella athletic, she keeps it in a ponytail... which is also very attractive, admittedly. I'm having a bit of trouble searching for AJ, PP, FS, and Rarity, so if you can, help me out. But I'd like to think that Rarity's mane style might change, but it'll be more "attractive" then her previous one. I wouldn't mind not seeing a new mane, though. AJ's mane could be braided. Such as small changes in appearance. However, if they were to actually do this they would need to be careful. Changing it too much would probably ruin it
Vaporeon 1,168 May 28, 2012 Share May 28, 2012 I don't know I'd hate to see what they'd do to Fluttershy, if she gets too much cuter then they'll end up killing half there audience. NavelColt 22,883 May 28, 2012 Share May 28, 2012 Being a Sonic fan, one thing I've noticed with the Sonic franchise is that the characters never change in age or appearance. If MLP did this, I'd have one more thing to respect them for. That said, I don't particularly like a lot of change either, and with this sort of series, where 'time' is not a factor that is essential to involve chronologically in the grand scheme of the show, I don't feel they need or even should go as far as to have them change their appearances. I think what might be cooler, would be to have one or two of them have an entire episode be focused around the character(s) altering their appearance and general attitude/outlook on life, for insecurity reasons or otherwise. The lesson can be something along the lines of 'be true to yourself, and don't allow other people to tell you who you are' or something. Alternatively, they could do something like have one or two of the mane 6 alter their styles and try it out over the course of part of the season, and have that be a sort of background thing that goes on for a while, then is resolved with said lesson. They could do a lot of things. But the bottom line is I don't see change like this as necessary to the show, as far as a permanent sense goes. PS: Rainbow does look rather cute with a pony-tail. Still prefer her tomboy look though.

Nas 2,873 May 28, 2012 Share May 28, 2012 I don't think changing them in their appearance, personality, and aging their maturity, while still might be a possibility, just won't work in my opinon. I think we can all agree that the Twilgight, Rainbow, Pinkie, Applejack, Fluttershy, and Rarity that we all know and love from Friendship is Magic, to a Canterlot Wedding, should never change, and should always be the same. That said, it's always been a touchy subject if cartoon charcaters age and/or move on. A pretty good example is the Pokémon anime. Think about it, in 1997, a 10-year-old boy sets off on a life-changing journey to become the greatest Pokémon trainer in the world. Through more than 10 seasons, 5 1/2 regions, 4 regional champion victories, and a smack-packing 15 years from then, the freaking kid is still 10-years old?!?! Also, in the Fairly OddParents, Timmy Turner, who is also 10, manages to stay 10 for the whole entire series as well! I think we can all agree that all the events that take place in these two examples HAD to have taken more than less than one year, at the very LEAST! Unless we're talking about Alicorns here, those two are just plain ridiculous! Oh....got carried away....back to topic! Onto the mane 6, I simply don't think it's necessary for having them to age or mature. Yet. As much as we hate to admit it, shows like Pokémon or Fairly OddParents have gone way too long for the characters not have aged, which unfortunately makes the show a little bit awkward to watch. They have a chance in MLP to not make the same mistake. I'd actually love for them to eventually canonically age and change a little bit, that'll go along fine with the amazing continuity they already have going on with the show in the first place. If they ever do this, I'd say wait maybe one or two more seasons. My journey in the fandom started on April 5, 2012. I joined here on April 24, 2012. Where that journey is headed now, who knows... Vaporeon 1,168 May 28, 2012 Share May 28, 2012 Design change is not the same as age ^^ Well we can assume Sonic was younger back then as was Tails seeing as Tail's voice was slightly different and sounded younger. Of course assumptions can be made, but that's not my point. SEGA still hasn't said anything anywhere about their ages, so in all technicality they have not aged. Yellow Diamond 7,575 May 28, 2012 Share May 28, 2012 (edited) There isn't much to indicate from the show that the Mane Six will undergo radical physical changes. As Reliable Gamer pointed out, there are a number of series in which the central characters do not age in any significant manner (save for episodes involving time travel or seeing into the future): Fairly Odd Parents, Dexter's Laboratory, Power Puff Girls, The Simpsons---the list is extensive. MLP isn't very different from the shows here, and I doubt the staff will want to alter the show too terribly much, especially with off-screen changes. It would probably create more confusion than its worth. Furthermore, the central cast is recognizable by their individual idiosyncratic appearances. Altering their styles would necessitate the audience requiring time to acclimate. In truth I would prefer such changes to occur over time rather than suddenly during the interval between seasons two and three. With all this having been said, I am open to the Mane Six mixing up their styles during the course of the season. Clearly their characterizations have shifted and evolved since the pilot episodes; new asthetics wouldn't be a stretch to imagine. But it would only be appropriate if it served the overall purposes of the show. Change for the sake of change is unnecessarily stirring the pot, and MLP is so good right now that any alterations need to be made delicately rather than wholesale. Personally, I'm more interested in watching the Mane Six evolve as a group after an emphasis on the individual characters over the course of the second season. Physical changes are secondary for me. I'm saying their ages have not changed at all from those published ages back in 2005 for Sonic Heroes. So even today, Tails is still 8, Sonic is still 16, etc. Because SEGA has not said, written or otherwise demonstrated that their ages have changed. Change in voice actors and style and personality hints towards it, but in the end, the only way for it to be made canon is for the company to actually publish it and make it public what their updated ages are. Anyway, back to this. Edited May 28, 2012 by ~Super Dashie~
Nas 2,873 May 28, 2012 Share May 28, 2012 Anyway, back to this. Darn, I was gonna post something about the published information about their confirmed ages, but aw well. Anyways, like I previously stated, I'm all for this idea. It'd be great to see them accomplish something that many of the great cartoons out there were missing- age continuity. :/ Plus, I like the idea of seeing how they envision them grown up from this current timeline point. Especially Spike. :3 My journey in the fandom started on April 5, 2012. I joined here on April 24, 2012. Where that journey is headed now, who knows...
