At SEGA FES, yesterday, SEGA announced that they're releasing the SEGA Mega Drive Mini in Japan on September 19th, On that same date, SEGA will release the Genesis Mini for Americans.

40 Games will be the grand total in both regional hardwares. Ten games were announced for the Mega Drive Mini:
- Castlevania Bloodlines
- Puyo Puyo Tsu (Poll Result Winner)
- Comix Zone
- Powerball
- Gunstar Heroes
- Madou Monogatari Ichi
- Rent-A-Hero
- Shining Force (Poll Result Winner)
- Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Poll Result Winner)
- Space Harrier II

We in the States will get the following 10:
- Ecco the Dolphin
- Castlevania Bloodlines
- Comix Zone
- Gunstar Heroes
- Shining Force
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
- Space Harrier II
- Altered Beast
- ToeJam & Earl

I tweeted the news to ToeJam & Earl's Twitter page, and they posted it immediately.

There are some differences between the Genesis Mini and the Mega Drive Mini, though:

- Genesis Mini comes with 3-Button USB Pads
- Mega Drive Mini comes with 6-Button USB Pads, and come bundled with 1 or 2 Controllers
- Games list varies by nation, just like the NES and SNES Classic Editions.

Hopefully, we could use the Retro-Bit USB Genesis Controllers no problem, unless SEGA plans on selling the 6-Button pads separately for specific compatibility with the Genesis Mini, so games like Comix Zone can utilize the 6-Button Pad proper.

Unfortunately the modding scene is only making the system "slightly" better. The emulator on the system simply isn't as nice as the ones Nintendo ship with because they are a third party emulator and not an in-house one. There are other major issues that make even buying one as an emulator "not a great" idea.

Sega has promised THIS Genesis classic will be done by M2 and not Atgames so that instills... Some hope... I guess? But Sega has such a crap track record that it's like... I'll believe it when I see it.

Prepare for more disappointment!

SEGA dumped AtGames in favor of M2. And if it's anything like the SNES and NES Classics, If it's moddable, it'll get modded, and you could add Sonic 3 & Knuckles to it! And SEGA is open to fan input, which is how the TecToy Genesis in Brazil got improved emulation. As for the controllers, they're USB, so those can be replaced with the 6-Button Pads that Retro-Bit sells, assuming that they're configured the same way as an ordinary Genesis Controller.

AtGames released something similar years ago. And you can get a Sega Classic Collection which is pretty good. I don't see the point of these minis.

It's the third-party games that matter. Otherwise, we're gonna see Bloodlines on that Castlevania Anniversary Collection on the Switch.

No inherently. Hate to be the Debbie Downer, but even the Playstation Classic's modding capabilities are... Subpar. It will depend on the quality of the emulation, naturally.

Not inherently. As people discovered with the Playstation Classic... It takes some tinkering to use third party controllers. Hell even the SNES Classic requires buying a dongle to use other controllers.

If the two systems use the same tech, then it'll make buying both a must, and you could swap for the pre-made 6-Button pads. But we might know more about these things come E3 2019.

Fortunately, I decided to play it safe, and pre-order mine from Amazon, rather than wait until later to get mine.

Nintendo started a fad. A PS Classic and now this? This is getting silly. Can't say I'm particularly excited for this one. Left out a ton of good Genesis games anyway.

I'll emulate with KegaFusion and play whatever I want.

Bumping this thread because we got 10 more titles coming up the pipe, and they're all good ones!

- Sonic the Hedgehog 2
- Streets of Rage 2
- EarthWorm Jim
- Thunder Force III
- Super Fantasy Zone
- Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse
- World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck!
- Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master
- Contra: Hard Corps
- Landstalker: The Treasure of King Nole

Of course, if you want to kill SEGA by emulating titles for free, and make the system cheaper, by my guest. I already pre-ordered it! I'm just trying to Gogoba Guilt Trip you into caring!

Hm, they really missed a lot of fan favourite games. The other mini consoles had that problem too, but it's still more of a hindrance if anything.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.
