MLP G5 Art Style - Speculation & Discussion

Recommended Posts

Judging by how visually distinct each generation of MLP has been thus far, it's pretty safe to assume that G5 will likely possess a completely different art style than G4. My question is simple: what are your hopes for this new art style? Do you want the ponies to remain with their current anime-esque facial proportions (big eyes/small nose/small mouth)? Do you want a return to the more "equine" features present in G1~3? Do you want to see a color palette shift away from the more subdued pastels used in G4 for a more vibrant alternative? Do you want it to be... *gasp*... 3D?

And perhaps one supplementary question to go along with the first: what do you realistically expect? I know that I, personally, would love G5 to look as detailed and fluidly animated as the 2017 theatrical release, but I don't by any means expect that level of effort (especially for an episodic television show).

My expectations, are probably more along these lines:

^Is it safe to say that this is the absolute girliest it could possibly get?

I really wanna hug that adorable, diabetes-inducing pony on the left, btw...

Honestly, I just wanted an excuse to post this image lol. Hopefully that desire can lead to a heated debate about why G5 should or should NOT be too girly. Only time will tell~

Oh, and here's a muffin for anybody stupid kind enough to click on all these self-indulgent spoilers ^^;

Realistically, I don't think they're gonna stray too far, as G4 was arguibly the most visually appealing.

What I'd like to see is a more Anime style, specifically a studio trigger or I.G. style w/ hard lines, exagerated features and dynamic motion akin to a Darling in the Franxx or Gurren Lagahn or Little Witch Academia.

Though I would like to see a return to the hand drawn/ painted backgrounds of G3.

I think it'll be CGI since Flash Animation is ending soon.

Kind of agree with this. I have a feeling it may just moe to some kind of psedo-3D animation.

By the way, Moving to Sugarcube Corner as this has to do with G5 respectively.

3D can be an eye candy or the whole thing could look like a cutscene from a cheap PS2 game. My bet, and I really hopping for it that they would go for 2.5D animation.

I would reckon they could go with the animation similar to the one from the My Little Pony: Movie. The visuals in that were spectacular.

As long as they don't use cheap 3D animation, I don't particularly care. I think that's mostly associated with low-budget shows though, so hopefully it won't be an issue.

Basically, as long as it's cute, they can't go wrong (or at least shouldn't be able to)

G4 was already heavily styled Fromm anime- like the large eyes. And character trait hair.

In a geneal sense yes. But then again so was power puff girls and teen titans. Im not just talking look, but the way the characters move and the way the perspective works.

It doesn't have Pinkie for sure because it's impossible to take her character into that level of ridiculousness. We don't have the technology.
