spoiler Princess Eris

Ashen Pathfinder

So, I know how Discord is very popular and is really the only well-known draconaquus, but what about his lovely cousin? The avian-styled Princess Eris; the main villain of the Nightmare Knights comic series?

Personally; I found her quite the compelling villain, and considering her rough past, she was quite the toughie for the Knights to crack I feel.

And some wonderful fanart of this lovely birb!

She looks pretty cool. I stopped reading the comics ages ago, so what exactly is her deal?

Wow, the Staff of Sacanas really gets around.

Spoilering the following for those who still want to read. ^^

Spoiler

Eris runs an interdimensional casino; if you will. She is the cousin of Discord, but doesn't share in his...eccentric activities, I guess you could say.

You see, this comic arc somewhat follows the Legends of Magic arc in that a lot of this originates from a world where the Pony of Shadows killed Starswirl the Bearded and won. Eris was partly the cause of this as she stole Starswirl's spell book in the name of chaos, if you will. Long story short the rest of the Pillars escape with the young princesses of that world and the Pony of Shadows captures Eris and drains her of her magic; eventually finding those princesses. She pretty much suffered centuries of abuse from this Pony of Shadows who was essentially the leader of this world, and eventually usurps him.

Present day, Eris now holds the Staff of Sacanas, and is wanting to auction it off to the various villains from MULTIPLE worlds & timelines, again in the name of chaos. She also has an alternate Daybreaker at her beck & call. She lures our Princess Luna to her world (with Stygian alongside) and steals most of her magic; which powers up the staff.

I guess the best way to describe her is that she uses chaos for destruction; rather than amusement.

What was Daybreaker doing there?

Spoiler

Daybreaker is actually one of the best things about this arc. Simply put; she's an alternate Celestia who was trained and raised by an alternate Pony of Shadows into Daybreaker, who eventually kills off that world's Nightmare Moon for appearing to weak. Fast forward to the present she's not at Eris' beck and call, though there's a VERY nice twist at the end that I'd rather not spoil unless you want to hear more. :p

I have yet to read the final issue but.... I don’t give a shit if the show deems non-canon the comics. They can give good stuff and stories as well  :LunaMCM:

Right now; I think it's safe to assume that any arc post issue #51 (Out of the Shadows) is in gray-canon territory; including Knightmare Nights. Granted, we need to find a way to explain how...

Spoiler

...the Staff of Sacanas went from EqG-verse (Spring Breakdown special) to Eris' possession; though I suspect it's possible it got lost...

...but meh; that is part of the fun. :D

Did they mention specifically it was the same staff as the main pony world? If not, it could that world’s counterpart of the staff

That's a good point actually, and IIRC it's never mentioned specifically, but since Eris targeted the Luna of the main world, I assumed that the staff also came from there, BUT I could be wrong. It's hard to tell how Eric came to possess that staff. I mean, considering Pony of Shadows pretty much ruled that world the Storm King may have not even been a threat there.

Plenty of juicy questions! :squee:
